Good day to you, ladies and gentlemen.
Nickname's Karmotrine Dream, a reference to the stellar 'cyberpunk bartender action' game VA-11 Hall-A and its equally lovely soundtrack - and as the title suggests, I'm a new-ish player both to Freelancer and its Discovery mod (or expac, given the sheer amount of content it's in there it might as well be one).

Some of you may have recognised the nickname, since I'd joined the official Discord and a few others before deciding it was about time to leap in here. If so, hello people and thanks for the help!
Discords aside it's about a week I've started playing and trying to figure out what's the setting like, what's the game like, and what I'd like to play as - I have a handful of characters ready, mostly for 'gameplay' (read, trading or mining and such) purposes, but I am looking forward to making a proper character to RP longer term.

As a player I tend to gravitate towards cooperation rather than competition, and I'm not particularly big on PvP - I don't mind the occasional scuffle, but I greatly prefer RP (better if 'mid' or 'heavy', if that's the correct terminology) and PvE if I can choose.
So far, what has interested me the most in terms of lore were the recent Gallic wars and am thinking of working with those as a starting point for a potential character - but we'll see.

The Gallic war was one of the most amazing (in my opinion) Fleet battles I ever took part of and I played for both sides. I made a story about my Dreadnought if your interested in reading it since you like RP more than le pews. Either way welcome to Discovery! here is the Story.

There are some rp groups and more rp focused factions, try to look out for 'em. OS&C yup is a chill good rp faction, can recommend 'em too.

For PvE there are sometimes Events, else try out these so called Warzones. In Cortez, Omicron Nu, Omega-49 are these zones for example. Cortez is the best atm from what I heard but you need to save for a Battlecruiser or Battleship atleast. These should maybe give one of the best PvE experiences with okay profit per hour.

; VA-11 Hall-A is the best. Good to know there are less pew-y factions, still looking around at the moment, and I did try one of those battlefields, the Tottori one. Love the idea, but at least that one had a teensy little problem... in that one side ended up overwhelming the other, so you'd have like a dozen fighters and gunboats spawncamping KNF and FA and whatnot. Oops.

There are many players who write amazing stories. Be sure to check them all out.

Btw, talkin bout stories... Сheck The Story Jam official event thread – there may not be the best, but at least some of the best stories of DFL community.
