Following the end of the wars with Kusari and Gallia, the Bretonian Armed Forces was authorized by the Parliament of Bretonia to explore the possibility of a smaller intelligence agency. This concept was proposed as it would require less funding by the government and Armed Forces assets and personnel could be repurposed or transferred. The Armed Forces created the agency which would primarily rely on their own influence and resources as the intelligence division of the Armed Forces to compensate for the smaller scale and its lower funding.

Once Parliament received the proposal for the creation of the agency from the Armed Forces, it amended that the agency would fall under the purview of Oversector Command while conveniently leaving out who exactly within the command structure was responsible for the agency’s day to day administration and execution of its long term goals. This allowed the agency to retain almost complete anonymity while also reserving the resources of the military budget to use for the creation of cover identities, falsified travel and diplomatic documents which would assist independent agent operations in setting up assets in foreign houses or uncontrolled space. The agency used their spartan funding and ability to utilized Armed Forces assets in unorthodox methods, as scarcity breeds creativity. Following the approval to begin operations, the agency was given the modest and unassuming name of the Defense Bureau.

Bretonian Armed Forces - ID & IFF

Chief:
Appointed by Parliament and approved by the Admiralty Board, the Chief of the Defence Bureau is one of the few public faces of the agency. The Chief administrates the full scope of the Bureau's operations and oversees major operations in conjunction with the Admiralty Board. In matters of command structure, the rank of Chief is equivalent to the rank of a Commodore, though the acting Chief may be of higher rank.

Major:
The Major oversees operations and administrates the distribution of agent tasks. One or more Majors are assigned to all major operations and assists Oversector Command with their assigned area. Majors are equivalent to Captain ranking.

Agent:
The frontline position for carrying out operations. Agents get assigned tasks and are trusted to carry out the duties with accuracy and precision. They are equivalent to a Lt. Commander.

Agent Cadet:
Once approved for the Defence Bureau the Agent Cadet, often referred as just Cadet, are approved for active operations on a probationary term. They are required to prove their worthiness in order to advance to the rank of a full agent. They go through an excessive load of training for that they may have a chance to survive the missions ahead.
