Preface

Kusari understood the critical importance of food. According to the Ancient Earth philosophy of Confucius, civilization would not survive without agriculture. Even in the harsh neo-feudal society of early Kusari colonial history, the so-called ‘peasantry’ was a protected class second only to the army and nobility. Kyushu is the only world capable of maintaining large scale agriculture, cementing the status of farmers who were also the landowners as critical and important building blocks of society.

When Kusari’s gift and a curse was an overabundance of water, Rheinland had to cope with harsh conditions of its cold homeworld. Discovery of Stuttgart, a planet to this day regarded as world most hospitable to humans in the entirety of Sirius Sector, proved to be salvation for Rheinland. WVS - Rheinland’s farmer union successfully lobbied for the planet's protected status and subsidies for agriculture. Local sourced food became affordable and cheap for a regular citizen for the first time in almost one hundred years.

None of that was to last. Rheinland’s colossal gambit in the 80 Years War had failed, ruining the economy overnight. In the dying breaths of the Imperial government - and later upheld by the newly born Federal Republic of Rheinland - all support for local industries dried out, and workers rights were massively scaled back. Kusari followed soon after. To pay off debts incurred by Kusari’s costly adventures in border worlds and most notably such colonisation of Hokkaido, the Empire had to relent and open up its hermetic centuries-old closed food market to outside competitors in exchange of monetary support.

Synth Foods took the opportunity. Synth Foods began selling its products at absurdly low price, far below actual production and shipping costs to stamp out the competition with nearly inexhaustible funds amassed over centuries. Worst of all, it's already cheap, flavourless plant from Los Angeles took root in Stuttgart. Synth - by extension of Liberty bailing out Rheinland’s wartime debts - over time seized most of the arable land on the planet, and began the process of terraforming to stamp out local crops under the guise of making the planet more suitable for affordable and efficient food production. It would not go unpunished.

Farmers Alliance, bankrolled by Samura to fight off its foreign competitors, and LWB which was able to establish itself with help of their own assets and at-the-time allies within Red Hessians, fought the same battle without ever having met each other. These kindred souls would however be historically united in 827. Beginnings of this union were bumpy and not without challenges. However in 830, a new front emerged.

Organisation

The group has two components. The Council is composed of Rheinland and Kusarian landowners who decide the further course of movement as a whole. Each Councilman vote counts as much as their contribution to the war effort, ensuring that only the most committed get to the position of power. A short but effective constitution protects against lobbying away from Farmers' stated goals in an attempt to stamp out potential for corruption within their own ranks.

Its armed front is a mixed-nationality unit that combines original FA and LWB forces. To strengthen unity, the armed struggle front had adopted officially the English language for several but not insignificant reasons. It was a tongue not native to both Kusarians and Rheinlanders, secondly it was already established as primary trade language in Sirius. Emphasis was put that English is in fact a Bretonian invention, to further spit on Liberty.

Membership is not limited to just Farmers only. To further diversify its appeal in pragmatic need to increase its manpower, Farmers Alliance had made moves to recruit from other disenfranchised backgrounds such as miners and labourers. Most success was met with the Artisanal Guild, which represents the consumer goods sector. This had put FA at further odds with Liberty as a whole, where cheap slave labour is used to produce consumer goods by the LPI for export.

Para-military is loosely structured after the land army. With single seat spacecraft being most prevalent, individual, guerilla and small unit tactics are preferred over nomenclature and fleet manoeuvres more fitting the Space Navy. Larger, multi-crewed assets are organised organically as support vehicles of the ‘army corps’ rather than dominating set pieces as would be more in line with a capital-centric navy. Largest warships available are the inherited LWB’s ‘Zerstorer’ flotillas, alongside any further ‘Hel’-class cruisers acquired after the fact.

Ideology

Farmers of both nations used to be - if not influential - highly respected and comfortably middle class. Historical turmoil however, such as the cultural and economical shock of opening up Kusari, as well as consequences of the 80 Years War had caused them to level with other socio-economic groups, especially in Rheinland. Farmers are traditional, however not to a point of blind fanaticism and some of their policies already had a socialist angle. As a consequence of the LWB merge, this left winged influence is more emphasised and had spread to Kusari proper.

Farmers Alliance cherrypicks policies from the entire range of political spectrum. To the right, assertive nationalism and xenophobia against Liberty is commonplace and encouraged. Hogosha are natural allies in Kusari: Formed out of disgraced, poor and the disowned, they care about their House in their own way without falling into either extremes such as militant isolationism or Liberty’s perfidious brand of ‘internationalism’. The Council is not stupid: it fully realises that not all trade is demonic, however under no circumstance it can supplant what can be made realistically in-House.

To the left, there is great deal of sympathy to socialist movements across Sirius born out of shared struggle over the past century. The only thing that took root deeper than hate of Liberty is the rampant unchecked capitalism it represents. Farmers desire more than all social security and improvement to quality of life to constituent citizens of their respective Houses. Anti-corporate agenda of Unioners, Bundschuh and Blood Dragons has certain appeal - Alliance members are encouraged to recruit the aforementioned individuals if it is safe to do so for their goals are not entirely exclusive affairs.

Alliance is staunchly anti-drug. First-hand witnessing what cardamine does to a person, as well as traditional dislike of addiction makes them a natural enemy of the Outcasts and their extensions such as Golden Chrysanthemums. Otherwise, there is no qualm about other forms of crime so long it perpetuates their goals, including but not limited to: smuggling, piracy, mercenary side jobs.

Ranks

  • General - First in Command
The ruling figurehead of Farmers Alliance front.
  • Commander - High Command
Trusted Alliance member, given high degree of autonomy to command local Farmer units. In absence of a general which is all the more likely with scope of operations covering two Houses; they are de facto leaders of the Alliance.
  • Lieutenant - cruiser access
Experienced veteran who proved himself in managing tasks as complex as commanding large quantities of men and women into combat.
  • Gefreiter - gunboat access
Seasoned pilots who can - in absence of higher authority - command their own squads in the field. Backbone of the Alliance.
  • Ashigaru - Strikecraft access
In the days of old, landowners and farmers would be called to war alongside the military.

Naming Convention

FA-Name.Surname / Callsign - Fighters, Bombers
FA-Z-Shipname - Farmers Alliance Destroyer (Rhein. Zerstorer)
FA-H-Shipname - Farmers Alliance Gunboat (Ku. Hokan)
FA-L-Shipname - Farmers Alliance Logistic Freighters and Transports. -Maru suffix optional

Goals

- Gain hard and soft power
Improving standards of living for the general populace of Rheinland and Kusari in the long term. Maintaining the high social, political and economical stance of Farmers and aligned movements to continue being a force to be reckoned with outside of our armed struggle. For that purpose, we will lobby, assassinate our enemies and align ourselves with other state actors that are sympathetic or outright friendly to our cause.

- Removal and complete and utter destruction of Synth Foods
It will never be over until the greatest threat to our movement will be eradicated thoroughly. Even if we manage to gain significant victories, Synth Foods may still return. If not tomorrow then in a hundred years. Their coffers are virtually inexhaustible, their execs greed and patience knows no boundaries. For this end, we will involve cross border raids into Liberty (Galileo, Hudson, Bering) to bring the fight to them if practical to do so.

- Financial independence from Samura
Samura may have had and continues to fund our government but they never had our best interests at heart. We shall strive to make ourselves self-sufficient by means of piracy, smuggling, grassroot support and allying with other actors that view the world the same way as we do.

Diplomacy

True Allies
People who understand our plight. Our brothers and sisters in arms.

Hogosha

Friendly
Our partners in crime or perhaps an old overlooked treaty. We will trade and do business cordially.

Corsairs
Samura
Unioners

Neutral
We have little to no information about them. Perhaps they are so far removed from our plight with their orange-lemon worldview and mentality it is simply better to simply leave each other alone. Or perhaps more mundanely, they are not worth our time.

Order
Core
Auxesia

Targets
Any unlucky soul on this list would be a target of extortion.

Zoners
House shippers not mentioned elsewhere
Everyone else not mentioned

Nuisance
We were not looking for a fight. Perhaps in better circumstances we would have been close allies. Either way, fate had set us on different sides of barricades due to reasons beyond our control.

Kusari Navy and Police
Rheinland Navy and Police
GMG
Blood Dragons
Red Hessians
Xenos

Enemies
Our nemesis. Antithesis for everything we stand for. Enemy to our way of life. Spare no quarter for none will be given to us.

Synth Foods
Interspace Commerce
Liberty. All of it.
The Orange Scourge: Outcasts, Golden Chrysanthemums, Lane Hackers
Nomads

Primary Bases of Operations

There might be others as the list is not exhaustive, but these are focal, most critical points of importance to our movement.

Kagoshima Depot

Headquarters of Farmers Alliance in Kusari, base overlooks the garden world of Kyushu from the safety of Hayate dust cloud. It also serves as our window to the Tau border worlds where Kusari’s interests are still strong.

Darmstadt Depot

It has seen better days, but Darmstadt remains our headquarters and the only safe haven in Rheinland proper outside of a few outlying Unioner rocks scattered at the edges. In addition, any expedition launched into Omegas begins here. Stuttgart must be protected at all costs.

Pacifica

We do not rule this base but we have understanding with people who do. It is a safe haven for our operatives overflowing from Darmstadt, and allows us to keep tabs on the Liberty-Rheinland border.

Newport Station

Shunning Freeports due to their reliance on the foul Synth-build domes, Newport serves as a convenient way-station between Rheinland and Kusari. Local Freelancers are more than willing to sell us any goods we may want, and unlike Zoners: do not ask unnecessary questions.

Noshima Freeport

Station run by friends to our Hogosha allies. While it allows many unsavoury elements to dock, advantages of this base far outweigh any drawbacks. It is closest outpost in northern starsphere available to us with a lookout on border with Liberty, together with Golden Dragon Casino.

I applaud your attempt at making sense of the faction merger, it's actually pretty decent. Though you seem to be missing the Gaians from your diplomacy section.
I think it be more interesting seeing a shift to more revolutionary groups for alliegencies and seeing a clear divide from piracy and criminally aggressive groups since what you want to focus on political and social economic improvements to the civilians of Rheinland. Nice to see a faction that fights for the support of a regions populace instead of power, territory or money. Rheinland is needing a little jumpstart as it was only one of the few houses where its unlawful factions all bloomed from left-wing revolutionary backgrounds. Some went astray for ill-gotten-gains, while others stayed true to the effort of a revolution.

You would have figured the Unioners history within Rheinland being of concern to the LWB sect of the farmers alliance. Please don't gas your own supporting demographic.

Also i suggest working in something about the Civil War, I'd imagine the civil war did take a serious turn on Stuttgart. Potentially for the worst since the Imperialists were very much the authoritarian right-wing feudalist elements that subverted a (extremely corrupt) democratic republic? If its anything they fight about, maybe the authoritarian shift since the inclusion of the Imperials into Rheinland governance took toll on living standards and freedoms. Especially considering the historic economic divide between Royals and 'peasants'. Although I guess its upto you if those profits the imperials seized from synth foods in exchange to allow them to remain on the planet ever trickled down to the working class. (Big historical hint: They usually don't with Imperials.)
There's no "right-wing" or "left-wing" or even "center" Imperialists in Discovery Freelancer. Stop bringing in RL ideologies and beliefs beyond simple guidelines (ooRP ones, that is, i.e. like BretGov has for the different parties as a reference point so people understand what's going on better) because it ends up in disaster and just makes you look like a buffoon. The only thing the Imperial Party of Rheinland ever stood for was power and money, it was never intended to be a way for people to ramble about how they are fascists like people do nowadays to Liberty lawfuls.

It also isn't said anywhere that they were against the workers, because if we read through what the infocards say, the Imperialists are a bunch made up of disgruntled soldiers and royals who are extremely against working with Liberty due to the toll their "cooperation" took on Rheinland as a whole. Their relation with the workers/farmers/what-have-you is undefined and is best left undefined until story will make up its mind on what and how Rheinland should do things to avoid another player-led charade that ends in total and utter disaster.
Nuisance section look like an interesting approach. On practice its non-shoot as far they don't interrupt?Or something more complicated?

+1 on Kartoffeln and including Cape Soya in the list.
Death to Synth Foods.
As for the actual writeup; looks good. Unfortunately I feel that Synth/Planetform-related supplies need to be given like a disproportionately high profit to encourage their anti-factions to seek out those dealing in their target commodities, but that's only half-related.

From my experience a Political-oriented Unlawful faction will live and die on the commitment of its membership towards bouncing forum RP off one another/others with whom they interact unless they're unusually good at the PvP aspect of the game; just be wary of that and anticipate an eventual burnout even in the best of times.

Those times are the ones I look back on most fondly in all my time on the server, though, so done right, it can be a genuine boon to the community. I hope it goes well for you.
*snipped because the thread context was cleaned up*

To address the actual topic of this thread: I like this direction for the Farmer's Alliance, and I like the explicit mention of how the movement is drawing upon both left- and right-wing politics. I think that this kind of political self-awareness is going to make the faction stronger in the long run and it'll make distilling the core of the RP much clearer in a positive way. I'm really looking forward to interacting with the faction in roleplay. No matter whether my characters agree or disagree with the ideology, I'm sure it'll be a great story. Big Grin
