Allow me to welcome you to the Discovery Roleplay Server!

It is the goal of this welcome aboard package to provide you with the tools and information you need to quickly and painlessly begin to play on our server.

Getting started

Again! Welcome to the Discovery server! The first thing that you will likely wish to do is secure some funds to purchase a better ship so you can begin to properly explore.

For this a solution has been provided.

When you first undock you may type the following

/restart <faction>

In place of faction type Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari, Rheinland, Miner, Gallia, Outcast or Corsair

This will beam you to the core of those houses with a solid map, better ship and some equipment.

If you're not sure how to best start on the server I suggest that you remain within Liberty. Upon undocking from Planet Erie in the Pennsylvania system look behind the planet. You should see a large blue cloud. This cloud holds a great deal of helium which you can "mine" by shooting the small floating rocks.

Tractor in the helium you mine and then sell it on Erie.

Repeat until wealthy!

While not the best way to make money it is simple, safe and should aid you in securing more robust equipment.

There are two definitions for "factions" on this server.

1) The Non Player Character (NPC) faction associated with an ID which you mount on your ship
2) Player groups which represent those NPC factions.

You may join almost any NPC faction by purchasing the ID. Joining a player faction is almost never required to use an ID. The only exception to this rule are the very few terrorist factions that we have on our server.

Player factions are groups of like minded players who have banded together to form a group representing the roleplay ideals of the ID they have chosen. If you feel that you have a solid idea as to how you may like to proceed in Discovery, such as piracy, fighting for the law or similar, many times attempting to join a faction is a very good way to be provided with solid advice, equipment and an accelerated start.

Player factions are, in other words, very good ways to get started. Simply look for their recruitment thread and, if you are uncertain as to how to proceed, feel free to look at other accepted applications for inspiration and insight.

Trading on our server is very simple. Simply purchase a commodity on a base and, upon arriving at another base where the price of the commodity is higher than where you purchased it, sell.

The above link has a very very brief guide to some suggested trade runs for new players. The list is by no means comprehensive. The trade system built by one of our senior members (Xoria) provides a means by which to move virtually anywhere from anywhere and still profit. It simply takes some investigation and thought.

Mining in Discovery is a somewhat complex affair. The entire system is handled by external code and so is not recognized by any tools you may be using to deduce trade routes. Mining is a system which operated on principles of teamwork. If you plan to fly solo you may have better luck with simply trading.

But for any inquiries the link above will provide a comprehensive guide on how to get started.

At first glance the server may seem to have an overwhelming number of rules. However you can get by with a very few memorized in your first days of playing.

1) Always scan someone's ID (by scanning their ship) before firing upon them. Being red, green or white does not matter.

2) Before attacking someone give them a notice. Player X, prepare to be engaged or similar is considered the minimum required before opening fire, even if you are joining a group fight.

3) If you need to "break character" to speak in system chat make sure that it is an emergency. For a simple question try to find a specific person to ask. It's very easy to talk to someone directly by clicking on their ship and beginning to speak with a /t

4) Do not attack anyone under level 30. There are exceptions to this, but until you become more familiar with the rules consider it a good rule of thumb.

5) Do not log out mid fight. If you are being pirated do not log out to escape piracy. If you log out by accident post an apology in flood on the forum.

6) If you have been killed in a fight and you are not in a transport please leave the system that the fight took place in.

Those are the most critical rules that come up the most. If you keep those in mind you're sure to start well!

The help section is always available for technical questions and in game queries. If something seems troublesome feel free to ask and a community member will doubtless respond in very short order. However! For general questions we move on to our next section.

Finally. The Discovery wiki maintained by a number of our member base is an excellent "first source" location for virtually any question you may have about the game. From ship sale locations to information about factions. If you have a question you can almost always answer it here for yourself.

We hope that you enjoy your time on our server and have as much fun as we do providing it for you. Be excellent to your fellow players, accept bad times with grace and have fun out there.
