4.85 Mining Mod

Mining Mod Status: ON

Q. Dusty! How should I mine?
A. The most effective way to mine in a mining ship is as such: Have mining turrets in slots 1-2 OR 1-4.
Mine in first person mode. NOT turret mode. Turret mode is actually really horrible in a mining ship.
Don't sit still, turn to chase asteroids. Turning upwards works better than turning side to side. If you want to spawn more rocks reverse thrust while turning. This will help new rocks spawn. Remember that rocks spawn behind you as well, turning upwards and moving backwards makes it easier to spot them

Q. Where is the feedback thread?
A. http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50516

Q. How much "should" I be mining?
A. It varies by field. Some fields are 1000 per 10 minutes. Some are 500 in ten minutes. It depends on your proximity to a sale point. Suffice to say that, literally, every single mine field has been mined to ensure that it is working properly. If your drops are very low consider your technique before posting on the forum.

Q. I don't see my faction below!
A. Thats because it hasn't been turned on yet. Baby steps.

Q. How does the mining mod work?
A. The mining mod gives you a bonus to a base loot drop if certain conditions are met. If you shoot an asteroid with any vessel you will get X loot. If you shoot an asteroid with a mining ship using a mining laser with the proper ID and IFF you get X times Y.

So

Ship + Mining Weapon + ID + IFF = Bonus

If you are missing ANY part of the above chain you get nothing.

Q. What about Guard IDs?
A. Guard IDs do not yet get a bonus

Q. Why not?
A. Because we haven't plugged them in yet.

Q. Will you?
A. Maybe.

Q. What do I need to get a mining bonus?
A. You need the appropriate ship, a mining laser, the appropriate ID and IFF.

Q. What if I have the right ID and IFF but do not have the ship?
A. You will get no bonus, the mining system requires you have all four.

Q. How do I tell what my IFF is?
A. Press F8 and check your reputation list. Your IFF is the same as the faction which is "blinking".

Q. What about the Miner ID?
A. The Miner ID works with any IFF. From Freelancer to Navy to Outcast to Xeno to Nomad to etc.

Q. How should I mine?
A. Mining is best done in teams. Our math demonstrates that the highest possible efficiency is accomplished by a team of mining ships and transports. The mining ships remain on site while the transports ferry goods. Remember to find a good commodity to return to the mining site!

Q. How do you compensate for the natural lack of profit margins in spreading low base ore prices amongst multiple persons.
A. We have used FLhook to manipulate the end sale prices of Ores. Meaning That ore sells on some worlds for much much higher than FLhook or FLcompanion will tell you.

Q. How can I tell where the best sale prices are?
A. We'll be introducing news items in game which we can update and possibly providing information on the forum. Maybe we'll even host your personal event!

Q. I'm mining in a field and the drops seem really low
A. Make sure the field you're in isn't vanilla. If you're about 3k away from a base you might be in the wrong location. Systems like Dresden and Omega 7 have new fields which are much deeper into the system.

Q. What happened to Omega 49?
A. You mined it out.

Q. When will the inactive mining groups be turned on?
A. Soon™

Q. How I mine for fish?
A. That is a dev secret.

Q. What percentage of the ladies want you Dusty Lens?
A. That would be 314% of ladies. Adjusted for historical and trans-dimensional ladies.

ALG

Quote:Bonus: Scrap Metal and Toxic Waste
Ships: ALG Mover, Behemoth, Rheinland Armored Transport
Mining Systems: Leeds for Toxic Waste, New London and New Berlin space for scrap.

While the charter mission of the ALG Corporation is hazard containment, control and cleanup the broader goals of the organization is wide ranging. The practical application of the company's practice is to be found in the ongoing contracts with Bretonia in the cleanup of the Leeds system, an accord signed and paid for prior to the engagement of the current conflict.

The toxic waste clouds in that system contain vast amounts of toxic waste which is suitable for return for processing and molecular recycling at the ALG headquarters in Rheinland.

Furthermore ALG maintains standing contracts within Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari and Rheinland alike to salvage the vast fields of debris which remain following the initial periods of colonial expansion.

Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing

Quote:Bonus: Niobium, Beryllium, Gold
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Tau-29, Leeds, Manchester, Cambridge, Dublin

The stakes of BMM are many and wide ranging. In spite of the current conflict within the Taus, which has begun to rage within the Leeds system in addition to Colonial Republic and Outcast resistance to expansionist movements the BMM has established a Beryllium mining program within Tau-23 with imperialistic probings into the Niobium claims of the IMG.

To further the contest of war the BMM maintains a grip upon the last of Leed's Niobium, despite the fall of the Stokes mining platform. Though behind enemy lines BMM transports and fighter craft continue to hold fast, claim or harry invading corporate forces.

Omega-7 is the seat of Hyrdrocarbon processing aside corporate rival Daumann who has also laid claim to the organic fields which ring the system. Hydrocarbon mining operations also can be found within the Manchester system.

Recent innovations in mining technology have also opened up a long neglected field within the Cambridge system, between Cambridge and the New London gate, which contains a veritable treasure trove of Beryllium long thought inaccessible.

However the Gem of Bretonia is to be found in the Dublin system's vast reserves of Gold. With the innermost fields either hotly contested or burnt out the fight for the system's resources has turned towards those fields which lay further abroad. Two to the north and one to the south, beyond the Molly's line in the sand, contain largely unexploited gold reserves.

Colonial Republic

Quote:Bonus: Beryllium, Copper, Niobium
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Tau 23, Tau 37
Note: Standard bonus for niobium, weak for all others.

The industrial wing of the Republic, long tutored by both their former hosts the IMG and their own familiarity with surviving in the fringes of civilization have mastered skills of mining the resources found within the Taus to rival that of the IMG itself.

Deep Space Engineering

Quote:Bonus: Platinum, Copper, Silver
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Pennsylvania, Colorado

With Liberty's primary ore resources exhausted following her initial expansion the nation became a consumption and manufacturing state. Providing only boron from the flats of Pittsburgh as a material export.

However a survey of the Pennsylvania system following its absorption revealed dense pockets of platinum ore within the orbit of the remote gas giant Tremont. While it remains a matter of scholarly speculation as to how such a heavy element found its way into stable orbit around the world DSE wasted little time in re-establishing a space mining fleet to lay claim to and exploit the resources.

Platinum is current in high demand by both Ageira for the manufacture of technology and by Bretonia for use in their war efforts, usually purchased in shipping stations in New London for later dispersal.

Daumann Heavy Construction
Quote:Bonus: Diamonds, Copper, Cobalt
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Dresden, Omega 11, Omega 7, Omega 3
Note: Bonus to Diamonds, weak for Copper and Cobalt.

Daumann Heavy Construction is currently engaged in a resource war within the Omega 11 system, working to exploit the motherlode of diamonds within the region against both Hessian interlopers and the hellish destruction being wrought on the region by her dying sun; to the point of almost entirely forgoing efforts towards extracting the copper and cobalt fields claimed in Omega 7 and Dresden.

Junkers
Quote:Bonus: Scrap
Ships: Salvager, Recycler, Combat Service Freighter, Collector, Combat Service Vehicle
Mining Systems: new London, New Berlin

Defining the edge of legality the Junkers maintain a portion of their good graces in the eyes of the local law by
serving as irreplaceable, and largely free, caretakers of the detritus of civilization. While an organization of many faces there is a large population of Junkers who live to answer this call. Proficient in salvage, gathering and eyeballing the richest of loot they are the scrap collectors of Sirius.

Kruger Minerals
Quote:Bonus: Copper, Cobalt, Silver
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Dresden, Omega 11, Omega 7, Omega 3

With the mineral resources of Dresden running exhausted Kruger Minerals has turned its attention fully to its fringe world stakes of copper, cobalt and silver located within Omega 7. However, with the removal of diamonds from the corporate portfolio the extraction of the Omega 7 minerals has granted a considerable bonus in yield for those resources over it Daumann counterpart, marking them as the leading producer of the same in the Sirius sector.

Kishiro Technologies
Quote:Bonus: Alien Organisms (OFF), Niobium, Gold
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Leeds, Dublin

Kishiro Technologies, the primary supplier of specialized equipment and cutting edge craft such as the Kusari Destroye for the Kusari Naval Forces, was well placed within the government to lay claims to the natural resources of Bretonia upon the conquest of the same. With the promises of the native resources of Bretonia as a bargaining chip Kishiro produced much of the materials required for the war effort at little to no cost, a gamble which has paid off.

With a foothold in Leeds established Kishiro has begun initial raids into the resource fields of Dublin and Leeds from their front line of Stokes. A gamble in itself due to the heavy military presence in both regions and the ire of the local pirate forces but one which is returning the company's initial investments ten fold.

Independent Miners Guild

Quote:Bonus: Beryllium, Cobalt, Copper, Silver, Niobium, Gold,
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Note: Standard mining bonus for niobium, weak for all others.

Samura Industries
Quote:Bonus: Alien Organisms (OFF), Niobium, Gold
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Leeds, Dublin

Samura industries, the primary supplier of arms and armor for the Kusari Naval Forces, was well placed within the government to lay claims to the natural resources of Bretonia upon the conquest of the same. With the promises of the native resources of Bretonia as a bargaining chip Samura produced much of the materials required for the war effort at little to no cost, a gamble which has paid off.

With a foothold in Leeds established the Samura corporation has begun initial raids into the resource fields of Dublin and Leeds from their front line of Stokes. A gamble in itself due to the heavy military presence in both regions and the ire of the local pirate forces but one which is returning the company's initial investments ten fold.

Independent Miners

Quote:Bonus: All Mineral Goods
IFF: Any IFF
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Note: Weak bonus for all minerals.

The independent Miners of Sirius, those whom decline invitation into the organization of the guild, are a rag tag bunch who rarely operate above the level of base piracy in their own rights. Without the training or infrastructure of their sister organizations they lack the ability to pull in substantial ore yeilds, yet operate with the boon of evading corporate trappings or restrictions.

Loathed, chased off or simply destroyed by those organizations who find them poaching upon precious resources, they nevertheless find a willing market for their goods upon successful harvest. A system at war cannot afford to ask questions about the origins of desperately needed resources.

Note: The Independent Mining ID can mine any mineral good or diamonds, yet at substantially slower rates than specialized corporations. Do not assume that this ID is the go to one. It allowed for a certain amount of flexibility, but you will be making far less money.

Hmm the Scrap Metal field around the Junker station in Omega 15.

Any bonuses for the Junkers there, and does the field works?
