Moiraine was in her quarters, reading the reports of latest skirmishes and on going political dialogues with 3rd parties. She never liked too much of paperwork with bureaucratic roundabouts being present like whirlpools in a muddy water. Half of the reports, even though pretty much militaristic in nature, hinted a sign of pleasing aims to firm a place within the eyes of command.

She was one of the first tier commodores, mainly working on field operations and strategies. She was never much of a pilot, set aside being an ace one, but her skills with the understanding of politics and shadows it created gave her a respected place among the operational tier. The thing they didn’t know is how she could be so emotionless when it was about taking risky and harsh decisions.

Actually, it wasn’t of a trait Moiraine wanted to have. The voice inside, always mumbling, arguing and trying to reign her actions made her soul steel. She left the cheering little girl Moiraine behind, and became the Iron Godess, as some of the officers call her. Her secret of having another person in her mind was kept at bay, not giving Ishamael the chance to act and do something mad but it also helped Moiraine to become what she is today. Constant struggle taught her to be fierce, strong and emotionless when it was necessary to act as a rock.

Today, Ishamael was silent. She was happy for once that she is not hearing the voice inside hear head constantly talking of dead friends and officers, counting every name who died because of decisions Moiraine had to take in battles. She wasn’t angry with herself anymore, the deaths were necessary but she also never stopped thinking of the names. The list, she remembered every one of them, every pilot served under her command by name. With that thought, Ishamael slowly started to hum and mumbling the list.

Sergeant Chris Calahan, Sergeant Mark Higgis, Captain Dianna Sullivan...

Moiraine: "Stop it!”

She didn’t realise that she told that out loud. Her secretary leaned towards the doorstep to see if Moiraine was alright.

Moiraine: "I am fine Jeanie, go back to your duties”.

Jeanie was her secretary for a few months now, after the previous Fleet Admiral, Rand Seith departed unexpectedly. She asked Jeanie to serve under her as she know how her skills were. Rand was happy with Jeanie’s services and it was more than enough of references for Moiraine.

No one gave a clear explanation of why Admiral Seith disappeared and Admiral Kelt became the Fleet Admiral but she knew. Rand was a friend and at nights after long hours of planning the logistics, they had chats of his and her past. Past before they signed up with the fleet. Rand was in love and he couldn’t resist his aches anymore. Last she heard of him, he was somewhere in Kusari, looking for that girl she had to leave years ago.

Memories she though.

It was then the intercom beeped and Jeanie gave the news that would change her life in a way she didn’t expect.

Jeanie: “Ma’am, Admiral Kelt has resigned from his post and offered your name to the Command Council to be titled as the new Fleet Admiral.”

Moiraine waited for a moment. She was as iron as usual but waited a second to absorb the news.

Moiraine: “Understood. Arrange a shuttle to take me to Minor on the double. I expect to be airborne in 15 minutes.”

With that, she stood up and weared her jacket, showing her rank. This was rather a fast change but it seemed like everything was happening rather with a pace nowadays, since when Sius Malacos disappeared and Rand took his place. It was getting darker, shadows lurking everywhere and reports of more conflicts coming from the house spaces as well as the outer rim sectors beyond Kusari.

Without saying anything else, she left for the shuttle to take her to Minor and be done with the rather fast ceremony, Ishamael slowly humming in her head.

Lieutenant Erik Stevenson, Lieutenant Commander Michael Rizst, First Sergeant Julia Abraams Wilson...
David Freisener was on-board the Seti's Pride, in orbit near the Omicron Iota jump hole. He looked with satisfaction at the starscape, it was another quiet shift. All systems were nominal, everything was good. Not to last.

Janet: We have a Transmission from Toledo sir.

Freisener:What are you waiting for? Open it!

It was a vocal message. The communications officer, Janet Wong, quickly tabbed the necessary buttons to play it. It intoned briefly- "Fleet Admiral Tovig Kelt has resigned from his position."

Freisener stared at the ground for a long time. Finally, all he did was sigh.

Freisener: Move ship to Toledo.

Janet: Course is set, ETA 15 minutes.

Jack: All power to impulse engines, initiating drive, we will be there soon captain.

Yet another Leader had cracked under the pressure. Freisener stared at the zooming starscape and wondered what was about to happen.
