Background Information:
Sometime in the 23rd century, Earth
After years of neutrality and peace, the small country of Switzerland could no longer sit while its kind was being wiped out. The Alliance could use all the help it could muster. The Swiss Army and Navy, along with all of its able-bodied people were called out for one last stand
Anton Malacos, a young lieutenant recruited onboard a German battleship was such a person. With the Alliances new hope, the Sleeper Ships, almost finished with construction, the raffle was on to see who might be the lucky ones, and who might not. Preference was given to those whose family served to keep them alive.
The Germans, a warrior peoples, had all but some gone to battle. Theyre closeness to the Swiss, not only by language, but also by servitude had granted few fortunate Swiss the rite of passage, but they were limited, horrifyingly limited. Many of their kind were not going to make it.
The family of one such Malacos was fortunate, but not all
Battleship Lufthausen, 2145824 hours, Bauendorf dock, Germany
Anton Kron waited in the main lobby to give his father the spirit-lifting news. They had been chosen.
Fater, Ich habe ganz gute nachrichten! Ir wart ausgevaelt fur die Rheinland!
( Father, I have very good news! You have been chosen to the Rheinland!)
The name Anton has been passed one to every elder son since one can remember, and it was destined to continue.
Das ist ser gut aber was passiert mit dir?
(That is very good news... but what will happen to you?)
Ich mach was ich mus, und was ich will. Fuer unzere leute forwaerd gehen und weiter leben! Aber fater, es gibt auch eine sache... Nur 2 von euch koennen gehen, die anderendie koennen nicht.
(I have to do what I must and what I want. For our people to move forward and continue to live! But father, there is one thing Only 2 of you can go, the others they can not.)
His face gasped as if a shockwave had pounded his lungs. Only 2 people This was good news indeed, but it was heart-crushing at the same time. Who will live and who will not They departed that day, not knowing what to think. Only two people will have a chance to continue, and the rest will not. They were 6 in total in their direct family, three of whom served in the war and one had died. The answer was easier than it seemed, for at that moment, they were lost.
Once the news was passed onto the family, they had no time to mourn, but to decide fate. The two sons serving with the Germans refused to leave, and the parents did not want to die before their children. It was then decided. Serah and Osis would go. But Osis would not let that happen. He made to the Lufthausen to meet with his brother.
Was soll das sein! Du must mitcommen, wir muessen alle gehen!
(What is this! You have to come, we must all go!)
Nein, geh, jetzt! Du must das fuer uns machen! Fuer deine leute! Ich hab fuer das voluntiert, und darum muss ich das fertig machen!
(No, now go! You have to do this for us! For your people! I have volunteered for this, and because of that I have to finish this!)
They stared at each other for a long time, until Osis punched his older brother in the face. Tears started to come down the side of his cheek. Anton pulled out his pistol and aimed it for his Osiss head.
Geh! Jetzt! Ich will nichts mer von das hoeren! Du machst was ich befele, ich will dich nicht mer sehen!
(Go! Now! I dont want to hear any more of this! You do what I command, and I dont want to see you anymore!)
He cocked his gun. Now tears started to come down his face too. Osis gradually stepped backwards towards the doorway until he was gone. Anton had never felt this way before. He lowered his gun, turned around and headed for the bridge. That was the last time anyone from his family ever saw him.
Short weeks after, the raffle was up, and boarding on Pluto was about to commenced. Osis woke up with his sister very early, left a note on their parents bedside table, kissed them on the cheek and left. They could not bare to stand the good-byes if they had been wakened. The two young kids scurried to the loading dock, were hundreds, no thousands of other people awaited their fate. They were transported to Pluto were they gazed upon the largest ships they have ever seen, and their home for the next hundreds of years. Soon thereafter they were in their pods next to each other. Oxygen masks covered their nose and mouth, and slowly the world began to turn black, and cold
800 years later
The story goes that after landing, they split up. Still young children, Serah was adopted by a nice Kusari couple, and Osis by a Rheinland family, of a couple and theyre baby son. Their name was Malacos. The two siblings kept in touch, and visited each other when they could. But one fateful day, as Serah was traveling across the systems to visit her brother, they were intercepted by Liberty forces, and the cruiser carrying her was destroyed. Once Osis heard this, he was crushed. Not having anything to hold on to, he joined the Rheinland military faction to serve as a pilot. There he met Winter, the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. After months of talking and working together, they finally decided to get married. They later on had kids, a girl named Serah, and a son named Anton, to keep the spirit of the Swiss people alive. After all, they were not all but dead. Anton was a Swiss, and other families scattered around the galaxy were too.
Modern day
Sius Anton Malacos is the latest descendant of the Kr'on. He joined the Rheinland Military like all men before him did. Their name seemed to have an effect around people, raising morale and spirit, knowing his story. The Swiss were more populated now, and with still his home patriotism in him, Sius considers himself halve Swiss and have German (Rheinland). While serving in the Navy in an outpost on the Rheinland border, he received the tragic news, that his parents, ex-Rheinland navy commander, and his wife were shot and killed after their private yacht was ambushed by non other than Liberty security forces. Sius's fury had never been greater, and his companions had to keep him constantly under their control, before he shot every single Liberty out of space.
In one such event, Sius engaged the enemy without any though, and ended up having to be tractor beamed in by a friendly cruiser near the end of the battle. As it turns out, before his ship ejected him from the cockpit, incoming fire had fried the consoles, and the cockpit was smoking. Sius's eyebrows were scorched cleanly off, thus earning the name SwissScorch after the battle. He went by that name as a call sign to his comrades. Soon after, it was discovered, that they were not actually Liberty forces, but Nomads. The Nomads were behind this. Them being the reason for all the death and destruction that caused not only his fury, but also that of almost every single human citizen in the Sirius sector. He vowed to do all in his power to eliminate them permanently. And as for the Liberty forces, they were indeed behind many Rheinland attacks, and war was about to break out between the two factions. Like hundreds of years ago on earth, these two factions would once again meet eye to eye in battle. Interferences with Rheinland would not be accepted, and Liberty will have to learn.
Shortly thereafter he approached his commanding officer and announced his resignation. He had no future staying in New Berlin and touring the galaxy constantly repelling pirates and Liberty forces. He had to do more. His superior, Admiral Kleinfeld understood. Being the excellent pilot that he is and more, Sius was told by everyone that he would be missed, and if he ever needed anything, anything at all, the Rheinland military was there for him. They were after all, his family.
Sius packed what little stuff he owned, headed to his Wrath, and launched for space without looking back. He figured the most interesting places to go to were the Omicrons and the Sigma's. They were close by, and there were recent reports of Rheinlanders disappearing. He decided to go explore and made his way to the far sides of Sirius. He had to avoid Corsair systems, and when he did enter, he took the long way around to make sure he wouldn't get detected. By long way, basically he flew around the system, instead of going straight through. He passed through a few more jump holes, and eventually made it to a Freeport in the middle of no where. It had been a long trip, so he decided to take a small break. Zoners were after all, neutral to practically everyone, so they didnt mind hosting a freelancer. He spent a few hours there, getting some rest, a nice meal, and stocking up on provisions.
After getting back into his ship, he took off, once again, not knowing were he was going. He had talked to a man in the bar back on the station, and said the man said that he had seen ships just like the one Sius was flying in a distant system in the Omicrons. He did not know the place, but had the coordinates to it. Sius bought them from him, and had them uploaded to his navmap. He headed for the jump hole that was supposedly in a near-by asteroid field. After a few laps and spins, he finally found it. He jumped through it, and waited to see what the other side had in store for him.
The bright light began to steady into blackness, as the world around him came to a nice, halt. Of course, the relaxation only lasted for a minute. Right after exiting the hole, a few Rheinland ships appeared on his scanners. Sius's face light up, as he began to hail them. Strangely, he received no reply, and the ships were still headed straight towards him. He knew something was wrong, so he powered up his weapons, engaged his thrusters, and waited for them to make the first move. It didn't take long, only a few clicks away; the ships began shooting at Sius. He was ready, and shifted the ship sharply to the right and evades the incoming fire. He then strafed behind the ships that looked exactly like his and opened fire. H didnt like the idea, but those weren't Rheinlanders or they werent any more. He was on their tail, and managed to disable on ship. He refused to destroy it, it might still be a Rheinlander, but chances were slim. The other fighters then began to turn around him, and soon Sius found himself with ships coming in from all directions. The way they moved seemed un-human to him. He thought it was over, but suddenly more ships appeared on his scopes. ****, this is going to be tough he thought, but before he decided to go crazy with the controls, the new ships opened fire, but had aimed for the other Rheinland ships. Sius didnt bother waiting, so he engaged his cruise engines, and headed towards the jump hole he came from. But these new ships were ready. They were organized and knew what they were doing. By the jump hole, there was one of them, a fighter. The only ID signature it gave off was that by the name of Seanthedestroyer. A funny name, Sius thought. But he took no chances, and aimed for the jump hole. Before he could, Sean hit Sius with a cruise disruptor. Not a normal one though, some advanced version of your every day gear. Siuss ship's engines came to a halt, and not many things were functional.
"Now listen, were not hear to hurt you, we just want to know what youre doing here, and why youre here."
"What makes you think Im going to tell you? You shot me!"
"True, your power will come back on in a minute, but listen now. I can either let you go peacefully, or turn this into a fight."
"Yeah? Well your buddies are over there fighting my people! I mean what I think are my people or"
Sean cut him off, and giggled a little bit.
"You have no idea do you? Those Rheinland ships are Nomad infested. And we detected that your ship was in trouble and that there were no nomad readings in you.
"How do you know all this? How can I believe you?"
"Well, I'm from the Order. Were a secret well not to you anymore, but we're a well organized, small faction that is dedicated to keeping the people of Sirius safe from these invaders."
Sius rose whatever eyebrows grew by this time, and thought carefully about his next move. Before he knew it, all his ships power came back on. He had started to tell Sean his story and how he would be interested in learning more about the Order, before a message came across the Global channel.
"All Black Squadron forces retreat back to Minor, there are just too many!"
"What the..." said Sius.
"Alright, listen. If you want to know more, come to this system in time."
Sean transferred a message to Sius's ship that had the coordinates to a Omicron Minor system.
"Alright. Thanks I guess see ya soon."
And with that, Sius jumped through the jump hole right in front of him, as Sean formed up with the other Order fighters and headed another way.
It didn"t end here. Once he got back to what he thought was safety, nomad ships appeared out of no where. Sius didn't have time for this. He engaged his cruise engines and headed to Colonial Sirius. After a few hours, he found himself in between Rheinland and Liberty. He had no idea how he got there, he just lost track of all the jump holes he took to get there. But at last, there was a station in site. A Liberty station Sius didnt like it, but now the closest way to get to Omicron Minor was through Liberty, and through New York itself, were he would have to sneak through zone 21 to get to his destination.
Black Squadron
Passing through Liberty to get to the order's known location was not easy for Sius. In every system, Liberty Police officers were trailing him simply due to his ship class. However, once passed Alaska and in Order territory, it was easier.
Of course, traversing through Order space wasn't as easy as he thought. Right after entering order space, a liberty battleship appeared in plain view, although the scanners read it as an Order battleship. Sius took no chances, and armed his weapons. Hitting his cruise engines and closing in on the "enemy", he received a transmition from the ship. "Unidentified ship, explain your business in Order space."
"This is a freelancer from Rheinland; I come in peace searching for the main order base."
"Well you've found the order alright, what's your business here?"
"Long story, I'll explain everything once I have clearance to land on Toledo. And trust me, I'm not interested in starting any fights right now, Battleships aren't my type."
"Alright fine, but I'll be following you for the trip, and you better not think about charging up those guns of yours."
"Alright then, sounds reasonable, let's go."
On the way to Toledo, a fighter, identified only as Ascendancy, joined the formation. They soon got to Toledo without any chatter at all, and without any thumbs on the triggers. Approaching the planet, another Liberty-like Battleship just appeared into view, as if it was invisible...They landed on the planet surface, were Sius was escorted to the landing bay's guest area. After 3 hours of waiting, a high-ranking pilot from an order faction named Black Squadron, under the name of Helljumper came, flanked by some guards.
"So, I hear your "dying" do find someone from the order? Now what do you want?"
"Well..." Sius told his story, and after various hours of deliberation, Helljumper brought him to the Black Squadron admiral. It wasn't easy getting to him, they had to pass to another base via armed transport and all along there, ships of all classes being worked on by crews, and pilots who seemed to have a cause. Sius wasn't sure what pushed their morale, but he felt good about it. After a couple of more hours, and what turned out to be a fairly long day, he finally was waiting... again... but this time in front of the Admiral's office. Finally, the doors opened and behind a large desk was a chair facing the view port. Great Sius thought, they put some showoff kid as an Admiral. that would explain the cloaked ship up there and the flight here. Then the chair turned and there he was in person. The admiral was looking straight at him and offered him a seat. The doors closed, and for a few more hours another long discussion erupted between them. The admiral identified himself only as Dboy, strange that none of them would tell Sius their real names... yet...It went well, as it somehow turned into a discussion of high ranking Rheinland military officials that they both seemed to know. Their relation went well, and Sius was approved to fly with the Order, but first he had to prove his worth. For 2 months he wasnt allowed to fly representing the Order, but after that he would be a full member in Black squadron, and the Order
Joining Black Squadron
Sius got along well with his new comrades. He learned a lot from them. The first days in his new Nephthys very heavy fighter, he witnessed for the first time these corsair weapons, and he never thought it nomad weapons. He had nomad weapons on his ship. But there is no greater please than to beat the enemy with their own weapons, is there now? For the first few days, he was helped out by a man by the codename Gotama. He flew a Corsair gunboat. Nasty little cassette -player. They both went to the mission advisor onboard the Isis, were they picked up missions. They were basically, kill Nomads and kill Bounty Hunters. As time passed, he grew more comfortable in his new fighter. Even though those guns took up a crap load of energy, they paid off well in fire power. Different combinations of different weapons work very well together.
After a while of down-time, Sius got back to work. Gotama had to take a personal leave for a while, and wasnt able to help out Sius for a while. But one day, when Sius was asking around for help, Ascendancy, Black Squadrons 4th in command approaches him and says that he will help Sius train in his fighter. Ascendancy holds the record for most kills in his fighter, and is trying to reach the mile-stone of 10000 kills. Sius and Ascendancy both then set out in their Nephthys fighters to do some missions. While getting a job onboard the Osiris, Sius reviews his weapon stats. He had 2 shield-busters that fired invisible weapons and for more reasons than enough, he didnt like them. After a quick discussion with his superior, they agreed that they should be swapped for more powerful, hull-dealing weapons. Now Sius happily sports guns that shoot visible-particles. Every Black Squadrons members ship has a different, unique weapon-array, and each remains confidential. Sius and Ascendancy, after getting a job from a fellow order member in the bar onboard the Osiris, set out to get some kills. They went on various missions, and ended up with a few kills, both Nomad and Bounty Hunters. Later on, they both went to Omicron Delta to visit Yaren Base. While on their visit there, 2 Nomad fleets appeared out of no where and began firing on their location. Ascendancy called in for back-up from some of the local Corsair and Order pilots, and in a few minutes, there was a full-fledged battle going on between Nomads and the small group of human pilots. However, after the engagement, all needed to get some repairs and head home. Sius departed from the rest of the group here, and docked at Yaren base for repairs. After a quick stay, he headed back home to Toledo, in Omicron Minor.
Chasing down a Renegade
Sius woke up in the morning to find an awaiting message for him on his data pad. The message was short and simple
"All Black Squadron Pilots report to their ship. We have a Renegade Bretonian Battleship to catch. Dboy out."
The HMS-Invincible was Bretonian Battleship for her majesty's royal navy. However, after the captain decided to position the ship in the Omegas, claiming to ask for help from Corsairs and Outcasts, it drew the line. She was ordered to retreat, and after some deal that Sius wasnt aware off, ended up as a wanted ship. On the way to his ship, Sius met some other pilots getting into their bombers. The Adler, a Battleship was already waiting in space, were the force would rendezvous. Sius hoped into his Nephthys, and headed out. Once the force was assembled, Dboy issued simple quick orders.
"Alright, The Invincible has taken many Corsair and Order pilots as prisoners, and is holding them ransom, but I have a better idea. So head to the Omicron Delta jump hole and wait for orders."
In total, the Pilots were Sius Malacos, as the only fighter pilot, the Asar as the leading Battleship, Admiral Dboy in his bomber, and a few more bombers, the Spectre, the SledgeHammar, and the Horus. There was also a Corsair accompany, Ivan Voronov. The force then jumped to Delta, and then Kappa. Immediately once they entered Gamma, the Invincible was picked up by everyones scanners. Dboy said one phrase before the fight began.
"Alright, Ill make this quick and easy, Black Squadron, engage the Invincible!"
With that said, the fight began. Unexpectedly, there was also Bretonian Gunboat accompanying the Invincible. In very little time, the Invincible had its shields down, and her hull was failing. She tried to maneuver in the Radiation Asteroid field, but collided with a rock, and with no shields, destroyed herself. It was quick, and the accompanying Gunboat began to retreat. The force was ordered to let her go, after her shields were down and her hull had taken damage. With this done all Black Squadron ships returned to Minor to celebrate the short, but successful fight.
Back in the mess hall on Toledo, the Admiral stood up and made a wonderful announcement.
"Today was a grand day. Although the fight was short, we accomplished out mission. All Corsair and Order pilots have been returned to safety, and the renegade ship has been destroyed. I would like to thank all of you. Youre all promoted. Lieutenant ranks on the house!
The pilots stood up and cheered! Sius had a mouthful of food and more in a spoon when he stood up. The food went flying but no one cared. After that, the pilots went about their errands. Sius had then just realized that Fisher wasnt to be found. He went to his ship, and activated the locator on Fisher's bomber.
"Crete? What the blazes is he still doing there?"
Sius geared up, and after flight control gave him permission, he headed off to Crete. Upon arrival, he noticed Fishers bomber on the landing pad, but no Fish. Sius went looking every where for him. The landing pad, the bar, the equipment, the bar, the commodity trader, the bar, the ship dealer, the bar. And then, on his 5th visit to the bar, there he was. Fisher was sitting in a booth, his back to the doorway, with a Corsair woman. Sius gave a sharp whistle, and that got Fisher attention. He could tell that Fisher groaned. He got up and went to kiss the woman, but she slapped him. Sius giggled, it looked funny. Upon reaching the door, Sius began to talk.
"So Fisher, guess what you missed. We took down a rogue battle ship and guess who's your superior officer? Me! They made me lieutenant!"
"Are you ****in' serious boyo? Well, any promotion cant be as good as the rack I just scored."
"Hubuddawhatnow?"
"Guess what, Sius. I'm getting' married!"
"Do you need me to save you again?"
"**** no!"
With that, both pilots headed off into space to fly some more missions before calling it a day.
Research Vessel Reliance
Sius took a nice, deep breath as he stared out the window of his new office. It was quite the change from the old room he shared with the other, nor lower-ranking members. He had a nice window to the cold, but yet appealing to him. The window room wasnt too big, but the window covered most of the south side wall. There was a small desk in front of the window facing the door on the opposite side. The leather-chair was spin able, and Sius could spin to look out the large window whenever he wanted. Of course, the table was covered with papers and work for him to do. This new position came at its costs. Yes, commanding and being a leader had its ups, but it also has its downs. The walls were still in their native white, but decorations were optional. Sius sat down on his nice chair, turned on his computer and looked down the list of messages.
There was a fleet-wide message from Fisher, basically, a battle-report. Sius scrolled down the message, something about not being able to get a picture of the rack of his wife. He also said that he was having troubles keeping Nomad specimen in his room. Sius sighed, and closed the message. He swiveled his chair and looked out the window. He thought about what possibilities could await him now. He was fourth in command. He brought up the short description of the rank.
Rear Admiral: 4th in command of Black Squadron. Control the fighter squadron wing. Has full power of lower ranking pilots. Has permission to use Battleships.
Battleships! Sius has already his out-fitted Nephthys very heavy fighter, and he was authorized to go to the top. He took a minute and thought about it. Battleships. They were big, and expensive. Sius didnt have too much money, and definitely not enough to afford a battleship. And then it clicked. Why does it need to be a battleship? There were other classes out there. Cruiser, Destroyer, Gunboats, etc. Sius wanted a nice somewhat of a flagship to show his high status, but not a battleship. They were simply unappealing. He remembered when he first saw an Order battleship; he said battleships arent my type. Ok, so something big, and not a battleship. How bout whatever is next biggest? The Order didnt have anything else but allies did. The Corsairs had a Praefact cruiser, and the Zoners had a destroyer. He decided to take a break and go research these before making any decisions. It was getting late based on Toledo day time. Sius finished as much work as he could and headed to his quarters for some sleep.
He woke up earlier than usual; to avoid any discussions he might have with other members. He headed to the hangar, and hopped into his Nephthys. With the codes to the hangar doors, he had the power to enter and exit at will. To make sure no one would worry, he left a message on his answering machine, simply saying Went out for a while, need to do some research. In space, Sius engaged the cruise engines and made his way to Omicron Gamma.
After a few jump holes and some more rest, Sius finally reached Gamma. He greeted the Corsairs and made for Tripoli. He landed and went to the ship dealer. They had some impressive ships there. The Corsairs took the Osiris class ship, and turned it into a more heavily modified Corsair battleship. It was quite the ship. They also had what Sius came looking for. The Cruiser. It seemed like something from a movie. It had something of a beak, and the skin was very organic. It didnt appeal too much to him. He thought about a possibility of setting up a research laboratory onboard the ship. A mobile lab is what the Order seemed to need. The ship didnt have the outline of a worthy laboratory, and at the same time, a machine of war. Sius took some notes from the ship dealer, thanked him, and headed off to view the Zoner Destroyer.
Sius wasnt a big fan of radiation, so he went as fast as he could to the Freeport. He landed and took a look at the ships they had to offer. Siuss eyes went immediately to that curvy-shaped middle-sized ship. He stared at it, and before long, an assistant came to him asking what he needed. When Sius asked about the Zoner Destroyer, then assistant laughed, and said mate, you just looked at it while you drooled, haha. Sius grew a smile, and laughed. He turned and looked at it again. Sius reviewed the stats and took to the bar to review all the information he had. The Zoner Destroyer had the better shape for a laboratory, and its over-all design was more attractive.
He had made his choice; a Zoner Destroyer would server as the Black Squadron Rear Admiral Flagship. The ovular shape of it allow for a research facility to be installed, and still have capable defenses for offensive events. He filled out a report that he would present to the other Admirals, asking for permission to special order a research ship that would be under his command. It would essentially server as his flagship and as a command center for him.
And so, Sius returned. He got back to Toledo as everyone was running their daily routine. He dropped off a copy of the request to the Admirals and began his daily work as well.
Patrol Ship Helvet
Sius stood at the Bridge of the Isis talking with its Captain. Over the past weeks many smugglers have come by Omicron Minor and into Omicron 100, strictly declared Order space and no one besides the Order and its allies are allowed entrance.
Many smugglers and traders were foolish enough not to comply by the rules and many faced their final run. However some managed to get away and come again. The number of traders seems to increase yet. It was time to put a stop to this. Sius went back to the dock tube and took the shuttle back to Toledo.
After getting back to his office and discussing with the other Admirals about what to do, it was agreed that ships had to be made specifically for the purpose of patrolling Order space and making sure it was the way it is supposed to be. Sius called up Fisher for the name of the man and the Corsair Company who made Fisher his medical frigate, essentially a Corsair Gunboat.
Planet Crete, Omicron Gamma System, months later
It was almost done. The patrol ship dubbed the Helvet was just being equipped with its latest equipment and weaponry. All of it was imported from Order space to the shipyard so the ship can be completed at once. The future crew of the Helvet and Malacos had taken a shuttle to Crete were they had spent the night before the ships release. Now it was so close and Order space was just a bit away from being safer.
Not long after, Sius heard of the ships completion, called his crew, and hurried to the dock. And there she stood. The Helvet. A Corsair Gunboat class ship, modified to Siuss specifications and now ready for duty.
The Helvet launched from the open-air dock and lifted off into Gamma space. Soon after being in orbit and all the ships systems operational, coordinates were plotted for Minor and the Helvet was headed home for the very first time.
