The Ministry of the Liberty Army and Military department
About the commission of the
Liberty Northern Battle group (106th Liberty Naval Battlegroup)

When it became obvious the Old Alliance has lost the war, began the construction of four large sleeper ships. Each was enormous, and it was the first time such a large project was taken by mankind. They were so large, whole city populations could be stored inside, frozen until the time came to colonise Sirius.
But as large as they were, not everyone could be saved from the advancing hordes of the Coalition. The Sleeper ship Liberty was charged into rescuing those survivors of a mighty nation once known as the United States of America. Most of those aboard this ship were hence Americans, since they were those who supervised the construction of this lifeboat. In the north though, lied another, less known nation of Canada. While the Canadian role in the Alliance-Coalition war isnt that important, a time came to the realisation someone needed to keep the heritage of old Earth with them and thus, the survivors of what once was known as Canada, were saved into the Liberty as well.

We have passed 8 centuries after we first set down on planet Manhatten. Over the years, weve grown. Weve populated numerous planets, entered in contact with our European allies and Japanese allies from the Great War. Our population has risen exponentially, and so has the Canadian survivors. While they are only a minority in the dense population of the Republic of Liberty, they represent a good percentage of the population. Many of the families live in the northern poles of our planets, which was where once their ancestors location was on Earth, to honour their traditions. Many of the settlers on California Minor are also known to be of Canadian heritage. Over the time, we have noticed theyve developed a reputation of strong, courageous and entrepreneur people. Because many have willingly decided to live in harsh, cold conditions of life, they even look physically stronger than the ordinary Libertonian citizen and are in average a few centimetres taller.

It has come to our attention that these people could serve the interests of Liberty in a way of a defence force. With the ever rising level of criminality in Liberty space, we believe it is necessary to encourage more of our citizens to enlist. Hence, the necessity for special groups like the 106th, which will mainly regroup existing and in formation soldiers of Canadian heritage. We believe they could form an elite recon attack force, especially in land invasions or station/ship boarding. Due to their general physical conditions, judging from where they live, we believe they are the best to be selected in this role they know about survival in harsh conditions, they are already physically enduring, and they are mentally determined.

The plans for the 106th consist of a standard fleet of 1 Liberty Dreadnaught, the soon to be commissioned LNS Citadelle de Quebec, with the escort of two cruisers, the LNS Fortress of Louisbourg and the LNS Citadel of Halifax.
//note, only the LNS Citadelle de Quebec will be in game, unless someone is interested in roleplaying the other two cruisers
The battle group will be commanded by General Isabelle Kaitlynn from the flag of the 106th, the Citadelle de Quebec. She is one of the best we have under our command, and have experience commanding large capital ships, even though her speciality is land strategist.
A complement of 3 squadron worth of fighters will be set at the disposition of the 106th, as well as a training squadron of civilian Hawk class fighters.

The battle group should be operational once the Citadelle de Quebec will be finished at Norfolk Shipyard.
//8 sleeper ships were constructed, 3 were destroyed, and 1 was lost for a time; the Hispania.

even though I don't have a LN/LSF guy I'm gonna act out a commander to give my critiques, sorry sniper/turkish//

Commander Dawson paused at the entrence to his office to admire his new rank. His door read Commander Andrew Dawson, Liberty Navy Stratigic Operations Oversight Division. Ahhh, Rank felt good.

"Lt! What is this I hear of a new Canadian task force being assembled?"

"I..I..I'm not sure sir, I just know they want to make an all Canadian force. Here's the report."

"Hmmm. I don't see why they can't just join the regular LN like everybody else.

Also, ground based assult force using a dreadnaught? I would have thought that Cruisers and GBs would suit them better. Quick strike to penetrate the defenses but if that is what General...GENERAL in charge of a NAVY battle group???...General Kaitlynn wants I guess that is her choice.

Are you dictating this Lt?"

"Ummm...YES SIR!"

"Good.

Also, I would not advise sending a Dreadnaught into battle without some serious support/backup.

What would this groups ZoI be?

Are you going to answer me Lt?"

"Oh, I don't know sir, the report doesn't say."

"Hmmmm, this group could work very well to supress the pirates in the boarder worlds. They have (almost) free reign there. Especially the Hackers in Magellan. New York is pretty secure for the moment with a new independent BS popping up each day...how they get the funds/permission to buy those ships I will never know...

Hmmm, those seem to be all my concerns. If Fleet Admiral Richard Woolsey has approved this then I guess I am willing to go along with it.

In fact, tell General Isabelle Kaitlynn that I am willing to help her get set up if she needs it."

"Sir!"

Message from Commander Dawson to General Isabelle Kaitlynn

Madam, I have read your report on the new 106th Battlegroup. I have several issues I wish to bring up.

+Why do the Canadians need their own group? The Regular Navy is a fine corp for any citizen of Liberty.

+Ground attack forces don't need huge ships but rather quick strike units, especially if this is to be a recon force. But I am open to arguments in this regard.

+I didn't know General was a NAVY rank (assuming the LN uses USA Navy ranks here)

+Lone Dreadnaughts tend to fall prey to bomber squads, we don't want that to happen to the LNS Citadelle de Quebec.

+What would this battlegroup target itself toward? I suggest putting your new ships to use in the boarder systems.

+I am available to help you set up your battlegroup if you need help with orgazational or personell issues. You probably don't want me training your fighter wings. I am first and foremost a pencil-pusher.

Regards,
Commander Dawson

edit://how are you going to RP having marines assult a base/planet?

I didn't mean to come with a list of negatives but that's how I operate, I see flaws. I like the idea, I REALLY like the idea of a RPed Dreadnaught. Respond if you want, if you don't I will survive. ;) these are just my thoughts.
Isabelle was doing her usual paper works concerning last week's simulated war games between a division she commanded and a division of Liberty Marines fresh out of the academy.
She chuckled. Of course, the marines didn't last very long in such cold conditions. Her people were trained just for that.

Someone came in her room - she recognised her father. No one would enter such a high ranking officer, even if it was an admiral, should it only be a mark of respect.
She turned to look at the elderly man, and smiled at him.
"Allo papa!" [Hi father!]
The man smiled back, amused.
"You should get used to speak english now... There's not even 10% of the people on that wretched planet who can even speak our ancestral language anymore.." he sighed, and looked older than his age for a few seconds.
"But, anyway. Got delivery for you!"
"Er... you should have let the standard comm-link routed it to me, no? You made a long way from Manhatten just to deliver a letter..." she said, slightly surprised.
"Hey, a father can't come to see his daughter once in a while?"
He sat without asking on a comfortable chair next to her, and tossed at her a datapad. She shook his head with false despair, and caused him to laugh. Her father always acted like this, even when he didn't had the rank of admiral. Hopefully his skills always saved his skin.

She smiled amused after her reading.
"And what did you say to that commander Dawson?"
"Oh, nothing really. Wanted to let you answer these things. It was just an excuse for me to come here" The old man laughed lightly, and looked around the spartiate complexe, at the top of a mountainous terrain. The bunker was well placed, and at the same time gave an interesting scenery of the Californian Minor's ever blowing snow storms. A nice place to set home.
"Well, can't refuse to answer a navy boy, can't we?" She smiled and began to write on the datapad.

Gen. Kaitlynn, Liberty Army Command to Cmd. Dawson, Naval Command

Greetings commander Dawson,
as you have seen, probably through the report of the ministry, the 106th is most unusual for a battle group. I will try to answer your questions as best as I can, although I am merely the commanding officer of this new unit.
The ministry has decided to create the 106th especially for the Canadians in order to promote a stronger sense of unity within a minority. While we do not seek to become independent from Liberty, many of the Canadian heritage men and women serving in the Liberty army/navy would, you would understand, prefer to serve with his Canadian compatriots. Not only this, but many of the Canadian in Liberty has their family settled over planets such as California Minor, where the harsh condition of life make us adapted to recon-type of operation since we were born.
I also understand your reluctance at seeing such large vessels deployed for a mere recon unit. Id like to say, we are not a standard recon unit, even though this is our main task. As you have seen in the reports, we do have operational naval squadrons aboard, as well as a training squadron. We hope indeed to assemble as much Canadians in this unit as possible, from all the different sector of the army/navy. Our capital ships mainly serves as our mobile command center it would be rather hard to command such a large amount of men aboard the usual Recon units modified Rhino attack freighter, while a cruiser wouldnt have hangars for our fighter squadrons. Being a recon unit, we will do long solo operations, maybe as far as in the Border World if high commands allow, and this is where a larger vessel like the Dreadnaught is a necessity.
As to my rank, I know this is indeed confusing. I am even at this moment, a Liberty Army general, not from naval command, although I have been taking accelerated courses to understand the functioning of a naval group. I probably am the only general in charge of a naval battle group but do remember I will also still be in charge of a large Army unit aboard the Citadelle de Quebec as well.
I am also aware of how Dreadnaughts are fragile toward bomber units. Even though we do have fighter squadrons //completely RPed out squads that said//, the lack of experience of my pilots will, I admit, probably not be enough to defend our ship efficiently. We do hope the navy will understand this and land us a hand if we are in the need by lending us some of their more experienced fighters in critical situations. Anyhow, we will need practice, and our first few days of operations will mainly be within Liberty space, where patrols are abundant, fortunately.
As you have guessed correctly, the 106th will eventually acts in Liberty border. However, there are plans which still need approval from High-Command, that our ship will eventually take on operations within the Alaska sector. This however is still uncertain.
And finally, thank you for your offer, but all the pencil works has already been done by our hard working ministry. It is very kind of you to take concern of the 106th, and I am glad to answer your questions.

Regards,
Gen. Kaitlynn

"Voila, finis en un temps record!" [there, finished in a record timing!]
Her father was standing in front of the viewport, looking outside, wondering. He came back at her to pick up the datapad, and suddenly looked serious, something unusual to him.
"Say, you are sure about commanding a whole battlegroup? It's a thousands men thing, out there, hanging in the middle of void."
Isabelle smiled gently, and patted his hand,
"If I was afraid of danger, I wouldn't have followed your path, right?"
She rose from her chair and gave the man a big hug.
"Ne t'en fais pas pour moi, papa!" [Don't worry for me, dad!]

//dont worry, I knew actually I hoped! Someone was going to come up to me with flaws XD I really prefer critics than being ignored =)
