I've set up a new subforum in Discovery RP Factions to manage new faction requests more efficiently.

In this forum, potential faction leaders should start separate threads that would include detailed description of the faction, member list, diplomatic status, ID status, RP story, and any other information they might see fit. All members (not only administrators) will have access to it, and will be free to voice their concerns or their approval. Faction leader(s) will have an opportunity to reply.

Final decision will be made by the admin team. Members who proposed new faction will be notified within 1-2 weeks of initial post. For certain obvious cases, time might be reduced to a few days.

Faction creation rules were updated accordingly.

Also, the rule that prevented a member of existing faction from starting a new one is now obsolete and will be removed from the server rules. This fact, however, will play its role when admins will make their decision on whether the new faction should be approved or not. Please note that this will not mean that numerous factions will be approved easily; we are still going to be selective and approve only those who prove to have best intentions and credibility.

So only faction leaders, admins, and the person applying can post in that forum?

Its for an 'intent to form a faction post' to be made, then discussed by all members on the forum as was done
before. It will be open to everyone to comment, criticize, be helpful or generally offer ideas. If threads go out
of acceptable boundaries, usual admin or moderator powers will be applied.
The posts should as closely resemble a finished faction status one as possible, with careful thought to the
content, including backstory, intended rankings and ship lists if relevant, diplomacies with all existing Disco
factions, tags and intended IDs and alignments, and of course a member list with forum names included.
Suggested things to avoid would be imported TV series, games, films and books, and other ideas with little
relevance to the Freelancer Universe. 'All Sirius Policing forces' are not recommended either, with little regard
to all others existing roleplay. Other server 'gaming clans' are not a particularly good idea, without thought as
too whether it will work here please.
A presence on the forums and in game for a reasonable time is also part of the criteria, short spans are
indicative of not enough time spent getting heads round how Discovery works. This is a serious roleplay server
and will remain that way for the foreseeable future.
That said and done, ideas can now be posted, with each faction posting a new thread for perusal. Anything
not heard about currently on the admin forums can be put here now.

It's something that was discussed and asked for.

Factions that seem to pop out of no where with Admin approval (FTS for example) prompted it. Also, this is a way for faction leaders and the community to see the disposition of proposed factions (PRF for example). What people were looking for was a step-by-step process to official faction creation...

1. Faction leader posts faction proposal here.
2. Community discusses faction with leader, giving advice (read: not flames).
3. After 1-2 weeks (roughly), an Admin will lock the thread. The last post (hopefully) will be an admin's approval or rejection, along with an explanation. Approved because... Denied for this reason:... etc.

This hopefully will improve faction creation, while giving the community an idea about the whole process.
so, the faction creation rules say that a faction must have 5 characters in - does that mean..... 5 players? or 5 characters....
About that forum, in particular, is it to be used exclusively for faction proposal threads, or could other threads related to faction creation, but not specifically a serious proposal, (such as some of dreygon's pipedream factions, or the recent poll on a creation of a junker faction), be posted there?
Its exclusively for faction proposal threads only ... Discussions concerning anything else can be carried
out wherever they normally are.
The faction minimum is FIVE members with separate forum accounts, and not five characters. Lordy we
could end up with one man factions again. Not going to happen.

Where do the rules say about 5 characters? Only says about 5 members, which means 5 different characters from 5 different accounts.
