Location: Freital Base, Omega-11

1. Operational aim
Investigate the latest occurrences within the deep Omega systems with Order forces' assistance and take suitable action after the source of recent abnormal readings is discovered.

2. Details
Phase 1: At exactly 1941 hrs, 18-08-18, Spezialoperationsabteilung headquarters at Freital base have picked up strange readings originating from the roughly-charted systems of Omega-55 and Omega-58. Considering a few similar but weaker readings we received more than two years ago which turned out to have an alien source, the Oberkommando has decided to call an immediate action in regards to these recent occurences. As investigating the situation would be impossible using long-range scanners alone, the Oberkommando will notify local Order forces and send in a recon team into the field with their assistance.

Furthermore, construction of the first prototype of our tactical Zielfernrohr Scanner has been pushed to the high priority chart section of Wolfsburg engineering lab and should be ready before the actual operation begins. This scanner - exact specifications of which will be announced when the production is complete - will be installed on one of the SOA vessels to act as the flagship for this operation.

As the operation progresses forward, this section will be updated with more details.

3. Key objectives
Legend: Completed objective, Objective in progress, Objective pending
  1. Phase 1: Preparation
    • Analyzing and processing the scan files - Completed
    • Contacting the Order high command - Completed
    • Installation of the Zielfernrohr Scanner - Completed
    .
  2. Phase 2: Reconnaissance
    • Arranging a safezone close enough to the operation site - Completed
    • Sending a scout team into Omega-55 system - Objective Failed
    • Relocating the jumphole to Omega-58 system - Objective Failed
    • Advancing into Omega-58 system if possible - Objective canceled
    • Discovering the source of recent abnormal readings - Objective canceled
    .
  3. Phase 3: Alternate Approach
    • Scouting surrounding systems for an alternate route into Wilde territory - Completed
    • Investigating any possible alternate routes located in surrounding systems - Completed
    • Discovering the source of recent abnormal readings - Completed
***
The operation will be marked as completed once all the above objectives have been carried out.
Further objectives may be added as the situation unfolds.

4. Expected aftermath
Depending on the outcome of first and second phases, the Oberkommando and the Order HC may decide to either return our units back to friendly space in case the source of these readings turns to be of no real importance, or to push further into the hostile territory in case the origin of the readings proves to be of any threat to our movement.

Even though the exact details of this operation are yet unclear, the ultimate goal would be to detect any possible threats and neutralize them if neccessary.

Further reports will be posted here so that the operational table can be updated. Good luck, kameraden.

[27.08.2012 18:06:12] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Now, straight to business meine herren...
[27.08.2012 18:06:22] Order|Taweret.: Very well, General Dresner. Let's continue.
[27.08.2012 18:06:40] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Even though we do hope this whole mess turns out to be a false alarm, but it'd always be best not to take any chances.
[27.08.2012 18:06:55] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Which is why you were contacted.
[27.08.2012 18:07:20] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Our scanners have picked up multiple abnormal readings similar to those of a couple of years back,
[27.08.2012 18:07:29] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: And I'm sure you're already aware of that.
[27.08.2012 18:07:54] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Last set of readings turned out to be the result of an alien construction being built deep in Wild infected Omegas, Similar to those of jumpgates and holes.
[27.08.2012 18:08:20] Order|Taweret.: We're aware of that particular construct.
[27.08.2012 18:08:41] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Now, even though the sources of these new readings are still unknown, it might be in some way related to the same structure which caused the previous scans.
[27.08.2012 18:09:16] Order|Taweret.: It might be worth looking into, certainly.
[27.08.2012 18:09:24] Order|Taweret.: The nomads are finally on the move.
[27.08.2012 18:09:34] Order|Tigris.Euphrates.: When it comes to nomads, always better safe than sorry. Glad some groups take it seriously..
[27.08.2012 18:09:46] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Oberkommando have already set up an Operation, but I believe it'd be safer if both our groups put their joint effort into it.
[27.08.2012 18:10:35] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: The general plan is to send a scout team into Omega-55 and then Omega-58 if possible, as our long range scanners cant get a clear reading on the source.
[27.08.2012 18:11:00] Order|Taweret.: A risky prospect.
[27.08.2012 18:11:30] Order|Vector: Normally I'd go for unmanned drones instead.
[27.08.2012 18:11:31] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Needless to say, it would be a really dangerous recon mission, but we feel that - at this point - it is required.
[27.08.2012 18:12:00] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: I'm afraid the defences of deep Omegas are much heavier than the capabilities of unmanned drones.
[27.08.2012 18:12:01] Order|Taweret.: Larger events hold our attention in the Omicrons.
[27.08.2012 18:12:10] Order|Taweret.: But that doesn't mean we can ignore the smaller points.
[27.08.2012 18:12:27] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: We'd need a combat-ready experienced team if this Operation is to have any result.
[27.08.2012 18:12:56] Order|Vector: Yes, have to agree with you here. The simplest solution doesn't work this time, I guess.
[27.08.2012 18:13:06] Order|Taweret.: Multiple light fighter squadrons coordinated from an AWACS Gunboat would be my tactic.
[27.08.2012 18:13:23] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: With RHA's knowledge of the region and Wilde combat tactics, paired with Order's intel on alien-encounter situations, I believe we can work out a functional plan for this operation.
[27.08.2012 18:13:52] Order|Taweret.: As I said, light fighter squadrons would be my preference.
[27.08.2012 18:14:07] Order|Taweret.: Considering enemy numbers and compositions are unknown.
[27.08.2012 18:14:17] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Of course, considering the risks, there would be a rescue team on stand-by in case anything goes wrong, but we'd rather not take any unnecessary chances.
[27.08.2012 18:15:34] Order|Taweret.: There is something that might be of relevance.
[27.08.2012 18:15:51] Order|Taweret.: We've discovered additional systems in the Taus, occupied by the wild.
[27.08.2012 18:16:31] Order|Taweret.: While our units couldn't stay long enough to confirm, some of the signatures match records.
[27.08.2012 18:16:45] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Hmm... Taus. I doubt even the Nomads are capable of building a permanent structure to allow them travelling all the way across Sirius sector.
[27.08.2012 18:17:15] Order|Vector: Well, when we speak about the Nomads, there's nothing impossible.
[27.08.2012 18:17:25] Order|Tigris.Euphrates.: The nomads are capable of just about anything.. remember this.
[27.08.2012 18:17:31] [RHA]Kreuzfeuer: Fauler: I always thought, the Wild are a Rheinland Problem
[27.08.2012 18:17:44] Order|Taweret.: They're expanded in scope.
[27.08.2012 18:18:15] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: In that case, I believe this operation gains an even higher priority.
[27.08.2012 18:18:16] Order|Taweret.: There are some hints of nomad movement in Kusari once more.
[27.08.2012 18:19:16] Order|Taweret.: It does. What did your command propose for this operation, General?
[27.08.2012 18:20:01] Order|Taweret.: As in, units assigned, base of operations.
[27.08.2012 18:20:05] Order|Taweret.: The minute details.
[27.08.2012 18:20:22] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: The actual phases of the operation are still under discussion, but unless the source of these scans turn out to be of significant threat, this would be a solely recon operation.
[27.08.2012 18:21:22] Order|Taweret.: We can ensure the presence of a light fighter squadron.
[27.08.2012 18:21:31] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Which is why we'd most probably be sending in a small group and keeping our main firepower as backup just in case.
[27.08.2012 18:22:08] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Because even if movement of a small group consisting of a gunboat and a few snubcraft gets unnoticed, an actual fleet surely wont.
[27.08.2012 18:22:45] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: We have the element of surprise here. Nomad and Das Wilde are not expecting us, they don't even know we've managed to pick up the readings.
[27.08.2012 18:22:45] Order|Taweret.: Even the recon squadron getting through unmolested would be a minor miracle.
[27.08.2012 18:23:05] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: So, our focus would be gathering the data we need before they realize our actual intents.
[27.08.2012 18:24:06] Order|Taweret.: A question.
[27.08.2012 18:24:16] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Go ahead.
[27.08.2012 18:24:17] Order|Taweret.: Will you be involving the Coalition in this operation?
[27.08.2012 18:24:43] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Short answer would be "No".
[27.08.2012 18:25:20] Order|Taweret.: I see.
[27.08.2012 18:25:38] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Our groups did aid each other in the past, but as of late and with the recent leadership changes, the relations are not as close anymore.
[27.08.2012 18:26:02] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: I was under the impression that you were already aware of that.
[27.08.2012 18:26:06] Order|Taweret.: I suppose the Storm is a relic of that older time.
[27.08.2012 18:26:24] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: True.
[27.08.2012 18:26:27] Order|Taweret.: *laughs shortly* I'd give a lot to be omniscient, General.
[27.08.2012 18:26:58] Order|Taweret.: Anyways. Vector, any questions you'd like to pose?
[27.08.2012 18:27:07] Order|Taweret.: Or Euphrates?
[27.08.2012 18:27:18] Order|Vector: I think we already got all the necessary data.
[27.08.2012 18:27:22] Order|Tigris.Euphrates.: I'm quite happy with the current situation. Most details seem covered.
[27.08.2012 18:27:48] Order|Taweret.: Very well. I'll ask then. If the readings do turn out to be something bigger than we expected...
[27.08.2012 18:27:55] Order|Taweret.: What sort of response do you have in mind?
[27.08.2012 18:28:35] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Our main objective regarding the Wilde in Omegas have always been preventing any possible harm.
[27.08.2012 18:28:55] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: You can't say the same about the Rheinwehr, as they seem to be more interested in getting infected rather than stopping the infection.
[27.08.2012 18:29:20] Order|Taweret.: They've done better than some houses.
[27.08.2012 18:30:00] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Same would apply for the current situation. Any and all necessary actions would be taken to prevent any harm.
[27.08.2012 18:31:26] Order|Taweret.: I suppose the actual extent of the response will depend on what we find.
[27.08.2012 18:32:37] Order|Taweret.: Another piece of intel you'd be interested in knowing.
[27.08.2012 18:32:42] Order|Taweret.: Have you heard of the Outcasts?
[27.08.2012 18:38:42] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Anything new about them?
[27.08.2012 18:38:56] Order|Taweret.: We've long suspected their upper ranks are nomad manipulated.
[27.08.2012 18:39:21] Order|Taweret.: We got confirmation a few months ago, and have been fighting a guerilla war with them ever since.
[27.08.2012 18:40:03] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: They have been aiding Nomads since long ago. One of our most critical research files regarding Das Wilde got destroyed
[27.08.2012 18:40:18] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: thanks to an Outcast ambush. That was when RHA-Outcast alliance ended.
[27.08.2012 18:40:27] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: And it was more than three years ago.
[27.08.2012 18:40:54] Order|Taweret.: When nomads can openly occupy the airspace around their homeworld, there's a difference to be made.
[27.08.2012 18:41:19] Order|Taweret.: If you see any of their kind, be wary, and destroy them if possible. They've been compromised beyond repair.
[27.08.2012 18:41:44] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: True enough. The Oberkommando had actually assigned the HT wing to take a close look at the Outcast activity in their home space less than half a year ago.
[27.08.2012 18:42:33] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Sadly, the war with Corsairs reached a critical stage and the HT had to be called back to Omegas to assist in the frontlines.
[27.08.2012 18:42:54] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: So we do have our eyes on Outcasts as well.
[27.08.2012 18:43:09] Order|Taweret.: That's good to hear.
[27.08.2012 18:44:00] Order|Taweret.: The nomads are on the move, and the Harbinger node is planning war.
[27.08.2012 18:44:21] Order|Taweret.: It'll be good if we're all prepared for that, and this operation might be a start.
[27.08.2012 18:44:40] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Well, I have to thank you for your quick response to our original transmission.
[27.08.2012 18:45:23] Order|Taweret.: Very well. Vector, Euphrates. Any additional questions or information you wish to share?
[27.08.2012 18:45:55] Order|Vector: Well, you've pretty much covered everything, I guess.
[27.08.2012 18:46:13] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: Feel free to use our comm hubs in case you need to contact your HQ, they're completely secure so you wont have to worry.
[27.08.2012 18:46:45] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: Dresner: We'll also be deciding the details of this Operation in the upcoming days, but in the meantime, let us know if you need anything.
[27.08.2012 18:46:45] Order|Taweret.: Very well. We'll get back to you to finalise the details of this op. Until then, consider us as willing.
[27.08.2012 18:47:29] Order|Taweret.: Until then. Taweret out.
[27.08.2012 18:47:38] [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer: *Dresner nods*
[27.08.2012 18:47:41] [RHA]Hans-Gukel: Auf Wiedersehen.

Projekt: Zielfernrohr
Date: 02.10.818

After the Lane Hackers' successful attempt at designing and producing the "Spyglass" Scanner, an enhanced/specialized variation of the standard Battleship Scanner, Science & Technology division of the SOA decided to invest resources into a similar project, but with a different approach. The successful result of this project, is the newly developed "Zielfernrohr" Scanner.

Unlike the Hackers' variation which is an upgraded version of the Battleship Scanner with higher scanning capacities, the "Zielfernrohr" can be considered a downgraded version of the same scanner with limited capabilities, but designed for use on smaller capital vessels. Using a portion of the vessel's powercore, this modification allows scanning abilities up to 80% of a Battleship scanner's, reducing the maximum firepower of the ship, but instead enhancing the scanning capabilities, useful for deep space recon missions, where use of larger vessels is not possible.

With the first prototype of "Zielfernrohr" Scanner successfully installed and tested on [RHA]RHGB-Ostwind, a fine-tuned version of this equipment is being installed on the flagship of this operation [RHA]SOA-Flammenwerfer. Keeping the critical nature of this operation in mind, with the lack of a Battleship-class vessel in the main task force of this operation, Flammenwerfer is assigned to take the center role in this operation, and the main objective of the escort wing would be to ensure the functionality of Flammenwerfer until the system-wide survey is complete.

Estimating based on the current functionality of the still-prototype scanner installed on Flammenwerfer, a complete survey must not take longer than 10 to 15 minutes, which still can be a considerable risk, being done behind enemy lines.

Further information regarding the finalized survey points will be uploaded to this channel.

Subject: Scan Zones Analysis
Date: 05.10.818

Using the raw star-charts for Omega-55 system, defined scan zones will provide a 89.55% reading coverage of any possible jumpholes and stars within the system. Within the range of 15 klicks, scan results will also locate high radiation fields. For an accurate triangulation, the three scans must be completed in the order defined by their scan zones, and the scans in all three zones must be carried out uninterrupted. Details of each zone is as follows:
  • Zone-1
    • Location: Sector G-4/5
    • Risk: High
    • Coverage: H7-E8-G3 triangle.
    • Details: First scan zone, closest to Omega-11 jumphole.

  • Zone-2
    • Location: Sector C-7
    • Risk: Extreme
    • Coverage: A7-E7-D4 triangle.
    • Details: Furthest away from both jumpholes out of the system, extreme caution is advised. Emergency retreat point for this scan zone is Omega-5 jumphole.

  • Zone-3
    • Location: Sector C/D-2
    • Risk: Moderate
    • Coverage: A3-D4-E1 triangle.
    • Details: Closest scan zone to Omega-5 jumphole, however, Omega-11 jumphole is to be used to exit the system unless in case of emergency.
Phase II of the Operation: Fernglas will completely depend on the results of these scans, and any further updates to the operation objectives will be announced after said scan data are secured and analyzed.

This is a report regarding SOA's operations within the scope of the second phase of Operation Fernglas.

The scouting mission consisted of four units: the Storm class gunship RHGB Flammenwerfer led the mission supported by three Odin class escorts. This unit was ordered to enter the Omega-55 red zone at 2000 hours on the 22nd of November.

Our readings at the first marker were taken successfully and without much trouble. No hostiles were sighted and the scan was not interrupted. Details will be available on the SOA scientific mainframe.

On the way to the second marker our forces were interrupted by a light military patrol. Weapons pattern was consistent with the one employed by Niemann's traitors. The patrol did not engage, and I immediately ordered the scout mission to condition yellow. On approaching the second marker our group was intercepted by a strong hostile deployment, likely directly responding to our presence in the area. The enemy units were all confirmed as part of Niemann's guard.

The enemy units opened fire as soon as possible, targetting the Flammenwerfer's engines. Considering that we couldn't lose the command ship, the escorts were ordered to stall the enemy until a repair unit got to our location. The enemy containment was successful despite unfavourable odds - the scout team managed to keep the enemy at bay with minimal losses. The commander gave the order to cancel the operation and abandon the red zone following the arrival of the repair ship and the reactivation of Flammenwerfer's engines. We have vacated the red zone at 2056 hours without losses.

Post op analysis confirms heavy damage to Flammenwerfer's flight systems and engines, as well as a reduced effectiveness of the fuselage armour. I've made a recommendation to move the "Zielfernrohr" Scanner to the RHGB Sturmgewehr for the duration of the repairs.

Furthermore, the outcome of the operation suggests the enemy is aware of our points of entry into the Omega-55 red zone. It is my recommendation that we attempt to find an alternative way into the system to avoid alerting enemy patrols.

Regards,
Hoerst

Phase 3 of operation Fernglas is now in progress and scans of systems surrounding Wilde territories have begun. During the operation I was granted temporary command over the RHGB Surmgewehr upon which the Zielfernrohr Scanner has been temporarily installed while the RHGB Flammenwerfer is still undergoing repairs. During scanning operations a gravitational anomaly was detected in sector D7 of the system. Closer inspection revealed it to be an as yet uncharted jump hole. The jump lead us to the system shown below:

A hostile battleship (Ranseur Dreadnought class) was detected on the other side and as you can see from the guncam, the place is heavily guarded by Reaper units. Forced to retreat, we managed to make it back to the jump hole and to Omega-47 again. We were also lucky enough to be able to repel the marauding Reapers and escape without losses.

As for accomplishments of the operation's original goals, we were unable to uncover any alternate routes in to Wilde territory within Omega-47 and the search is being shifted forwards to the next system to be scanned.

Recon team of The Order sent out to scout any possible alternate routes into Wilde space from Omega-41 have returned with intel on a newfound jumphole possibly leading directly into their core system, Omega-58. Therefore, Operation: Fernglas has reached its final stage and Hessian forces will be notified of the exact time and date of an upcoming large-scale assault into Wilde core system, which hopefully those alien pawns will not recover from anytime soon.

We will be having the support of Order battlegroup for this stage of the operation, and once a solid assault strategy is planned out, last phase of this operation will be a go. A read-only copy of the original transmission by Order High Command can be found attached to this message.

To RHA command and specificaly: SOA division. Admiral Golanski of The Order speaking.

As discussed before, our patrols started to re-discover way into Wilde controlled systems. One of our "ORC" managed to locate and pinpoint gravitational anomaly in Omega 41 system. Confirmed now to be jumphole, we calculated for 95.43% chance it links to a Omega 58 starsystem. As well our intel suggests we hit the jackpot. Due to our plans we refrained from closing on anywhere close of this location to preserve element of surprise but that leaves us blind. The very same recon cruiser was not able to verify what is on other side to our surprise.

That leaves us few choices... first is reconaissance with snubcraft, minimal risk however we loose element of surprise. Second is all force jump through blind which I do not recommend. Third option is to send through assault wing first to assess defences on other side right before main fleet. Once their drives will recharge and some of them recalled back to relay intel, we will decide upon further course of action.

We need time to mount an combined task force, work out chain of command and commit sensible assets for this operation. "ORC" will remain hidden in neighbouring Omicron Theta as we cannot risk hull, crew and expensive equipment to neutron star any longer than it is neccesary. However due to its extensive armanent and superior scanner arrays, we need it sent into Omega 58 together with the fleet.

Golanski out.

Operation Fernglas is hereby marked as Complete.

As a result of this joint-operation between forces of Volksrevolution and the Order, we managed to discover the source of the abnormal readings originated from Das Wilde controlled space. As it seems, the structure Das Wilde were trying to build has had a sort of malfunction and the whole system is now lying in ruins, being nothing but a wasteland, and leaving a newly formed Neutron Star much like the one in Omega-41 behind.

Witnessing the aftermath of the incident, we can safely assume Das Wilde lost a considerable number of their forces, as well as their installations within the system, but Spezialoperationsabteilung patrols are to include Omega-58 in their regular patrol routes from this point on in case the infected forces ever try to return to the system.

Guncam shots and scan logs of the last phase of this operation can be accessed through attachments to this transmission.
