Information Centre

The Buro der Marineintelligenz or BDM is the intelligence division of the Rheinland government. It is tasked with both safeguarding Rheinland as well as attacking those that wish it harm. The BDM accomplishes both of these goals through the use of both covert as well as overt operations throughout Sirius.

Covert Operations

Covert operations typically involve the use of Agents who are scattered around Sirius. Their mission is to listen and relay information back to central command. They typically do not engage in combat or associate themselves with overt assets in order to maintain their veil of secrecy.

Covert assets are typically deployed in areas where the discovery of a BDM presence would trigger political backlash and other unfortunate consequences. Areas such as Bretonia, Kusari, Taus, Omicrons and Border Worlds can be considered areas where a Covert presence would be ideal, though not necessarily required.

Covert Operatives

Agents are the only type of covert operatives that the BDM employs. Agents are typically given a backstory and create a name which reflects that story. They take great care to not break their cover as any mistake could quickly land them in jail or worse.

Overt Operations

Overt Operations are typically the responsibility of regular operatives as well as the Elite U-Korps Economic Warfare Division. These differ from covert operations in that it is not kept a secret that the BDM is involved in operations in the region.

Overt assets are deployed in areas where their presence would cause no problems or where political backlash is irrelevant. The most obvious area of operation for overt assets would be Rheinland. Another zone of operation is Liberty where overt units are often sighted performing guerilla warfare on Liberty Navy assets as well as performing economic warfare on Libertonian trade vessels.

Overt Operatives

There are two types of Overt assets: the regular operatives and the U-Korps. Both serve a vital role in engaging the enemies of Rheinland. While the operatives use vessels such as the Wraith and the Bergelmir, the U-Korps tends to use heavier and longer range vessels such as the Gunboat, Mjolnir and Fafnir. This is because the U-Korps specializes in operating deep within enemy territory and as such requires vessels which can travel further and are more self-sufficient.

The U-Korps

The U-Korps was founded when it was decided that Rheinland needed a way to be able to strike behind Libertonian lines and hurt them from within. Employing sturdy vessels designed to withstand the long journey between Rheinland and Liberty, the U-Korps makes full use of the Rheinland Gunboat, Fafnir and Mjolnir.

With all of its vessels captained by experienced and skilled pilots, the U-Korps has enjoyed massive successes while experiencing relatively few losses. It is the doctrine of the U-Korps to retreat when victory is so much as uncertain. Ships and weapons can be replaced but the knowledge and talent that the captains bring to the U-Korps is irreplaceable and to lose them is to waste the most valuable assets the BDM has.

U-Korps Operatives

The U-Korps has Fafnir's, Mjolnir's and Gunboats at its disposal. The majority of its operatives tend to employ the Gunboat thanks to its overall survivability and firepower though some swear by other ships.

It is rumoured that the U-Korps has developed something called "Pocket Carriers" which allow for a limited compliment of Wraiths and Bergelmir to accompany a U-Korp raider group into Liberty, something that was previously impossible due to their small size.

Base of Operation

The BDM is headquartered at Schatten station and does its utmost to protect the secrets within. It is rumoured that advanced research into materials classified above top secret are being conducted and that some projects have been successful.

The U-Korps tends to use the Battleship Westfalen as the primary staging point before most excursions into Liberty space.
