Overview

Name: 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit
Tag: 15MEU|
ID: Liberty Navy ID
IFF: Liberty Navy

The 15th MEU is one of the Liberty Navy and Marine Corps' primary expeditionary warfighting elements. Able to be deployed anywhere in or outside of Liberty on short notice, it is one of the most potent and feared weapons in the President's arsenal. To quote Liberty Marine General James Mattis,

"There is no better friend, no worse enemy, than a Liberty Marine."

The 15th MEU consists of three primary elements. The Marine Landing Force is the Marine infantry component, and the core around which the MEU is built. The MLF is embarked aboard the warships and transports of the 15th Expeditionary Strike Group.

The Expeditionary Strike Group consists of all the spaceborne forces of the MEU. It consists of battlecruisers, cruisers, gunboats, and fast attack transports. It also contains the Marine Aviation Force, the MEU's fighters and bombers, who are additionally honored as a third element of the MEU. In this day and age, all three elements of the MEU are made up almost entirely of Liberty Marines, unlike in the past where the fleet forces consisted of Liberty Navy ships and personnel.

The 15th MEU and its detachments undertake a wide variety of missions, from attacking space stations, boarding ships, raiding moons and planets, conducting reconnaissance in force, and a plethora of other missions expected of Liberty's best.

History of the LMC

The history of the Liberty Marine Corps begins with the Continental Marines over a thousand years ago, on a date whose scale and relevance is long lost to time. On November 10th, 1775, the Continental Marines were formed in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, beginning a long tradition of unfortunate alcoholism. Two battalions were raised to attack the enemy by the ship and by the sea.

They served valiantly over the centuries, fighting in dozens of conflicts and generating a rich tradition through heroism and determination. The USMC eventually became the Alliance Marine Corps, and a small detachment would be present aboard the Liberty following our exodus from Sol.

These men were re-absorbed as local police, but the tradition of the Marines would be revived in 108 AS when the Liberty Congress called for the formation of twelve battalions of Liberty Marines organized into MAGTFs, or Marine Air-Ground Task Forces.

Today's Marine Corps is relatively unchanged from that of 108 AS. Liberty Marines have upheld the traditions of those who have come before, gathering a fearsome reputation in wars against pirates, Rheinland, Rheinland again, separatists, and Gallia. Marines are present on every front, on planets and on warships, on space stations and moons. Truly, there is no better friend and no worse enemy.

History of the 15th MEU

The 15th MEU was formed in the tradition of the old 15th MEU of Sol using personnel from the 10th and 30th MEUs in 811 AS. The 15th MEU participated in the battles for Atka in the Hudson system against Rheinland, and in expeditions in Alaska and the Omicrons.

Today, the 15th MEU is primarily engaged in battle with the Gallic menace, although it is ready at a moment's notice for the President's orders to take on any new threats to the House of Liberty.

Missions and Principles

The Liberty Marine Corps is an organization like none other. We pride ourselves on upholding the heritage and tradition of those who have come before us. We are Liberty Marines. This title is not given lightly.

All your sweatshirts have an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on the back. You wear a buzzcut even on extended leave. Your version of "hello" is "oorah." You tell the girls you meet about how hard basic was. And you do push-ups for fun.

But to be a Liberty Marine means more than that. It means holding true to our core competencies, values, and traditions. We cherish and uphold our Core Values, Honor, Courage, and Commitment. To quote the 34th Commandant of the Liberty Marine Corps General James T. Conway,

"These values serve as our touchstones in times of peril and adversity. They guide the actions of every individual who has earned the title Marine."

Make no mistake. We are warfighters, and our job is to partake in the inherently violent clash of powers whose nature is underlined by brutality and chaos. We win by destroying the enemy and his will to fight, and utilize our superior training, grit, dedication to win. We exploit his vulnerabilities while protecting our own.

As written by HQMC, "We believe that the human dimension of war is the most critical element, and that boldness, creativity, intelligence, and the warrior spirit are prime attributes."

In pursuit of our goals we hold fast to our six enduring principles which guide us in all we do. These are,
  • Every Marine a Rifleman - Every Marine, regardless of military
occupational specialty, is first and foremost a disciplined warrior.
  • Expeditionary Naval Force - Marines are “soldiers of the stars,” an integral
part of the Naval Service, lean, versatile, flexible, and ready. We are
organized, trained, and equipped to conduct naval campaigns and operate on and
from naval platforms, or to fight in protracted campaigns planetside.
  • Combined Arms Organization - In 108 AS, Congress directed the Marine Corps’ composition as an air-ground combined arms force. This integrated force, known as the MAGTF, has unique and incomparable warfighting capabilities. Our MAGTF contains organic air, ground, and logistics elements under a single
command element, making it an effective and integrated combined arms force.
  • Ready and Forward Deployed - Congress’ intent that the Marine Corps serve
as the “force in readiness” was founded on a recognized national need for a
force capable of rapid response to emerging crises. This requirement mandates
high standards of readiness across the force. We are routinely forward deployed
around Sirius and stand prepared to respond quickly in times of crisis.
  • Agile and Adaptable - The Marine Corps’ agility is based on its expeditionary
mindset and flexible structure, able to operate either from space or in sustained
operations planetside. We can adapt quickly with unparalleled speed across an
extraordinary range of military operations. Our organizational design and training
facilitate a seamless transition between these operations,
providing the necessary capability to operate effectively.
  • Marines Take Care of their Own - We are stewards of the most important resource entrusted to us: our House’s sons and daughters. We make Marines, imbue them with our Core Values, and offer them the opportunity to serve a cause greater than themselves. Marines live up to the motto, Semper Fidelis. We are faithful to those who fall and we care for our wounded Marines and their families.

Reputations

As an organization subordinate to the Department of the Navy, our relationships for the time being are identical to those set by our parent organization, the Liberty Navy. See here for documentation.

Ships of the 15th Expeditionary Strike Group

Fleet Escort Force
The Fleet Escort Force consists of the major warships of the MEU. These ships escort and provide supporting fire for the infantry they carry and those carried by the Fleet Landing Force. The Fleet Escort Force consists of Interdictor-class battlecruisers, Archer-class cruisers, and Defiant-class gunboats. All ships in the FEF double as combat transports.

Fleet Landing Force
The Fleet Landing Force consists primarily of dedicated fast attack transports whose mission is to carry men and material into battle against Liberty's enemies. The "Rhino" and "Grizzly" freighters and the "Bison" heavy transport are the mainstay of this force. They have sufficient hull space and firepower to bring the bulk of the MEU's forces into the combat zone under the cover of the Fleet Escort Force.

Marine Aviation Force
The Marine Aviation Force is the fighter and bomber wing of the MEU. They provide essential cover and offensive potential in the combat environment that often makes all the difference. Liberty takes pride in her pilots, and certainly the most in her Marine aviators.

In the way of fighters, the Marine Aviation Force - which is also the "A" in "MAGTF" - has at its disposal the "Liberator" light fighter, the "Executioner" heavy fighter, the "Guardian" very heavy fighter, and the "Avenger" very heavy fighter. The MAF also fields two types of bomber: the "Upholder" and "Havoc Mark II."

Ranks

Senior Officers
  • Colonel (COL) - Commanding officer of the MEU.
  • Lieutenant colonel (LTC) - Executive officer of the MEU, and commander of the ESG.
  • Major (MAJ) - Battalion or squadron commander. If such exceptional warships are eventually assigned, permitted command of a dreadnought or assault carrier.

Junior Officers
  • Captain (CPT) - Permitted command of a battlecruiser.
  • First lieutenant (1LT) - Permitted command of a cruiser.
  • Second lieutenant (2LT) - Permitted all fighters and bombers, as well as command of a gunboat. Permitted "Bison" heavy assault transport.

Staff NCOs (SNCOs)
  • Master sergeant (MSGT) - Permitted all fighters and bombers.
  • Gunnery sergeant (GSGT) - Permitted all fighters.
  • Staff sergeant (SSGT) - Permitted all fighters except for the Avenger and Guardian VHFs. Permitted all freighters.

Why is Earth on your faction logo, 1000-years in the future and 800-years after anyone has even seen Earth?

Logos such as these are supposed to represent that which they're indicative of- placing Earth there implies they originate from Earth- logically in it's place would be either a vectorized image of Manhattan or barring that for fairly obvious reasons, just the Liberty flag or an image of Liberty space on a map.

Otherwise, writeup seems solid. Best of luck.

Because they haven't managed to make one with Manhattan yet? They're trying.

Marines are very stubborn about tradition. It would be entirely like the LMC to retain old symbols with their meaning being completely lost to time.

However, you do have a point, which is why I'm trying to get my hands on a set of logos with Manhattan on them instead of Earth.

Symbolism still has to be relevant to the faction at hand mate-- and pardon my initial terseness, not trying to be overly critical, I'm just pointing out a personal bugbear of mine: that being people not using symbolism properly. Nothin' against you all <3
Honestly I wouldn't go with Manhattan either if I were you: You want to represent Liberty as a whole, not just the capital.

RE: 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit - 15MEU| Information and Feedback Page - suppy - 04-01-2018

I appreciate the input, and I did not take it as terse or hostile so don't worry! But I think we'll just have to agree to disagree here; I don't see anything more relevant to Marines than an absurdly old symbol they hold on to purely out of a sense of tradition.

But like has been said, I am looking into some very interesting modernized options.

As Tænì once said:

It's not funny anymore.
There is a feeling that only Liberty produces ships. I have nothing against you, but the abundance of Liberty Navy is annoying. It seems that all this is done only to "legalize" your capital ships.
The noise around Liberty begins to bore me. Is there no other interesting faction in Sirius besides Liberty?

RM, please start another war. Liberty is too huge. The number of their LNS is frightening. Burn everything you can reach.
Freedom for natural selection!

And yes, about 15th - all the same as default fleet. But in other words.
I'm not impressed. Sorry.
On the other hand, I do not exclude the fact that you will prove to be very interesting players.

RE: 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit - 15MEU| Information and Feedback Page - suppy - 04-01-2018

15th MEU isn't a cap faction, and it's not going to be a very big one at that (not even any admiral ranks). The whole point is to inject some diversity and focus into what has become just a list of numbered fleets with cap swarms. Being an expeditionary unit gives some interesting latitude to interact and generate activity beyond Cali/Texas/NY in a way that I have not seen done before.

Also, small question - why mastodon, and not bison, which inlore actually from-the-box ready airspace dropship?
