The First Fleet is part of the Liberty Navy, the chief military arm of the Libertonian Armed Forces. Its origin dates back to the creation of the Republic of Liberty itself; ever since the exploration of Sirius began in earnest, the Navy was there, in one form or another, to protect the citizens of Liberty and defend the Republic's sovereignty. As times changed and discoveries were made, the Navy was quick to adapt and endure, always standing tall and firm in the face of an ever-changing Sirius.
When the Nomads unveiled themselves in devastating attacks throughout 800 A.S, the Navy was placed into a rapidly escalating situation. The threat of an interstellar species on Liberty's doorstep was serious, and then-President Barbara Jacobi, collaborating with the Senate and House of Representatives, pushed into legislation a series of budget increases which would guarantee a massive swath of additional funding for the Navy, lasting until 820 A.S. Navy leaders, collaborating with the finest researchers and engineers from the largest firms (including Deep Space Engineering and Ageira Technologies), worked to create a series of vessels that would form the core of Libertonian naval superiority for the next century.
Today, Liberty still faces ever-present danger. Even with the threat of the Insurgency vanquished at great cost, many of its remnants have moved elsewhere; into the Zoner resistance around Erie, or the Xeno movement. With such prevalent internal threats remaining, and the myriad possible threats brought by the bold new frontier of the Earhart system, the Republic must be kept strong and united, and the pilots and officers of the First Fleet stand proudly among the ranks in the first line of defense against those who would destroy it.
Determined to defeat the dangers to the House at any cost, the First Fleet, its partner fleets, and their stalwart allies are prepared to lay down their lives to protect the citizens of the Republic. And, with their technological and strategic superiority, their victory is all but assured.
Tactical Capabilities
Peace through superior firepower.
Bound by duty to protect the largest and most affluent house within Sirius, the Liberty Navy is the strongest and most technologically advanced military of the four Sirian houses - even the Kingdom of Gallia’s forces were considered to be a close rival. Between the sound construction of Deep Space Engineering, the technological and scientific prowess of Ageira Technologies, and the logistical efficiency of Universal Shipping, the Liberty Navy's needs are consistently and efficiently met in the form of thousands of tons of steel and fire, building an impenetrable aegis through which no enemy of Liberty shall enter. Behind these vessels are a venerable pantheon of tacticians, pilots, commanders, engineers, and crew - the brightest minds of Liberty, serving to defend her borders from enemies, be they foreign or domestic.
The First Fleet is separated into seven Combatant Commands, which are explained more in detail in the Strategic Dossier section. The headquarters of the First Fleet is located at Norfolk Shipyard in the New York System, under the command of 1FLTCENTCOM. The secondary headquarters is located at Juneau Shipyard, under the command of 1FLTSCICOM.
The First Fleet together with the rest of the Liberty Navy, operates numerous facilities, including shipyards (such as the Norfolk dry docks in New York), research facilities, and orbital logistics facilities (such as Long Island Station, in Manhattan orbit). In addition to these facilities, five battlegroups are dispersed throughout the various systems of Liberty, ordered to maintain permanent guard positions to defend the trade routes of Sirius' economic capital. These are:
Battlegroup Alpha, led by the Overlord-class Battleship Missouri and currently stationed in New York. Battlegroup Bravo, led by the Overlord-class Battleship Concord and currently stationed in California. Battlegroup Charlie, led by the Overlord-class Battleship Alma and currently stationed in Pennsylvania. Battlegroup Delta, led by the Mitchell-class Battleship Arkansas and currently stationed in Texas. Battlegroup Echo, led by the Atlantis-class Carrier Ohio and currently stationed in Colorado.
In addition to these stationary battlegroups, 1FLTCENTCOM is assigned a variety of mobile assets, organized into fluid strikegroups for rapid re-assignment and redeployment. Some of the more prominent mobile assets include:
The amount of equipment and war vessels available to the First Fleet is staggering, a fraction of the Liberty Navy's power that would still take an effort many times greater than any war to summarize. However, some of the most common ships found in the First Fleet include:
Strikecraft (Libertonian):
LZF-6364 "Patriot" Light Fighter - The lightest of the strikecraft available to Navy pilots, typically used in interdiction and scouting roles. Very little armor and weak primary armament, but high maneuverability and maximum velocity.
BDR-360 "Executioner" Heavy Fighter - The prototype predecessor of the Avenger series, the Executioner is primarily used in training roles and a patrol craft in border systems, due to its aged electronic systems and outdated power equipment, among other various mechanical issues.
BDR-337 "Defender" Very Heavy Fighter - Typically the most common offering aboard any strike carrier, the Defender is a staple craft used in almost every squadron within the Navy's ranks, due to its simplicity and effectiveness. Maintains a balance of agility and armament in order to maximize its effectiveness against a variety of targets.
BDR-845 "Avenger" Very Heavy Fighter - The big brother of the Guardian. Trades some maneuverability for additional armor and power storage, which allows for the usage of heavier armaments. Tends to go unused in favor of the Guardian, except for certain circumstances.
Li-117 "Upholder" Light Bomber - A repurposed variant of the Guardian strikecraft, armed with a variety of strike packages depending on mission loadout. Its respectable maneuverability despite its payload allows it to perform hit and run tactics, a favorite among bomber squadrons operating on the Gallic Front.
Strikecraft (Bretonian Lend-Lease):
B-1290 "Templar" Bretonian Very Heavy Fighter - Approximately twenty of these vessels, originally Bretonian in design, currently reside within the First Fleet's arsenal. Typically favored by squadron commanders due to their compact size and superb structural integrity, which is a common theme for Bretonian vessels. Nevertheless, their relative rarity ensures that no dedicated squadron exists for the usage of this vessel.
B-3000 "Challenger" Heavy Bomber - With the threat of heavy capital vessels such as the Valor-class Gallic Battleship, the Liberty Navy required a stop-gap solution for a bomber capable of delivering a greater payload than the Upholder-class, and found it in the Challenger. Compact and well-armored, like the Templar it is derived from, it delivers a devastating punch of two anti-capital torpedoes, whilst also retaining cruise interdiction capability. A solid asset in unfortunately short supply.
Capital Vessels (Libertonian):
Defiant-class Gunboat - A highly maneuverable, compact, and well armed vessel, the Defiant is the premier picket vessel in use by the Liberty Navy. Its improvement over previous designs, most notably in the development of an anti-capital plasma catapult, allow it to serve a variety of roles - a flexibility sorely needed on the Gallic Front.
Archer-class Siege Cruiser - Like most Libertonian designs, the Archer-class is built to be compact, maneuverable, and deliver a heavy blow. To that end, it trades in a majority of its armor and armament for a massively increased powercore and a plasma lance, otherwise known as a 'siege cannon'. This highly destructive device can cut ships clean in half, and concentrated fire from a 'wolfpack' of these vessels is enough to tear even a Conquerant class Valor to pieces.
Interdictor-class Assault Battlecruiser - A heavily armed, heavily armored, yet still maneuverable vessel, the Interdictor is a pinnacle of Libertonian engineering and design. Mounting multiple heavy cruiser-class and battleship-class payloads, the Interdictor-class serves as an effective foil to the Archer that precedes it; the former handles heavy capital vessels from afar, and the Interdictor ensures that nothing smaller gets close enough to harm the Archer - a dynamic duo that has served Liberty well.
Overlord-class Dreadnought - Were the complete sum of all Libertonian military might condensed into a single vessel, it would be the Overlord-class. Mounting three 16' railguns as well as hundreds of secondary and tertiary batteries, the Overlord seeks to completely annihilate the opposition. And despite its heavy armament, as well as its state-of-the-art titanium-carbide reinforced armor plating, it still maintains a maneuverability far and above that of its counterparts. A venerable design dating back almost two hundred years, very little has changed - after all, why change perfection?
Atlantis-class Assault Carrier - Where the Overlord-class rules in sheer firepower, the Atlantis dominates in combat flexibility. Able to hold four combat-ready wings of strikecraft, the Atlantis-class is vital to the Libertonian doctrine of maneuverability and aggression, and with its simply massive quantity of anti-strikecraft weaponry dotting both flanks of the hull, our flyboys can rest assured that they'll be coming home safely.
Capital Vessels (Bretonian Lend-Lease):
Churchill-class Bretonian Gunboat - Perhaps the exact opposite of the Libertonian Defiant, the Churchill is heavily armored, heavily armed, and much less maneuverable. While this makes it less effective in anti-strikecraft duties, it is more than a match for any enemy gunships, and annihilates any such vessel with extreme prejudice. The only major concern of the Churchill is its rarity; only five are currently assigned to the First Fleet, of which four are in active service.
Crecy-class Bretonian Destroyer - With the introduction of the Scylla-class Destroyer into various pirate groups, the Navy has had significant difficulty in keeping trade routes safe - these craft are too small for vessels like the Archer or the Overlord to engage, and can outmaneuver the Interdictor in a pitched battle. However, the Navy holds one ace up their sleeve: the Crecy-class Destroyer, of Bretonian origin. While its shape may be reminiscient of certain varieties of seafood, its ability to dispatch enemy cruiser threats is unparalleled, and suffers from only one problem; the same problem of all Bretonian ships in Libertonian use, that of rarity. Four are assigned to the First Fleet, and all four are in active service.
Logistics Craft:
EL-HiL27 "Rhino" Freighter - Once used as a diplomatic shuttle and high-value cargo transport, the Rhino has since fallen out of favor with the Navy in favor of the more powerful and well-armored Grizzly. Nevertheless, many smaller Naval facilities utilize the craft as an in-system cargo exchange vehicle.
DL-Hai "Grizzly" Shuttle - Developed as a replacement for the Rhino, the Grizzly serves a myriad of roles within the Navy; due to its armor and agility, it tends to be favorable as a high-value transport vessel and a diplomatic envoy. ESRD operatives have, in the past, utilized the shuttle due to its ability to mount advanced sensor systems. Some Grizzly craft are even held in West Point's docking facilities, to be used as training vessels for new capital vessel crew.
EL-HiL51 "Mammoth" Transport - An archaic design dating back centuries, the Mammoth transport in its current form serves as a medium-size bulk hauler, maintaining enough armor and maneuverability to survive dangerous forays into hostile territory. However, with the advent of the C5 "Bison", the Mammoth has been steadily retired in many Logistics squadrons across Libertonian Space, and may soon find itself completely removed from service.
C5 "Bison" Transport - Built to withstand high atmospheric pressures, weapons fire, and system malfunction, the C5 "Bison" is the ultimate in logistics vessels for the Liberty Navy. Primarily used as a troop transport, especially in operations such as "Operation Royal Flush", in which tens of thousands of Marines were flown in and dropped on the surface of Leeds by Bison vessels, it has nonetheless found itself in a variety of roles, including bulk transport, due to its sheer size and defensive capabilities.

Every fleet needs leaders, and the Liberty Navy's First Fleet is no exception. Our officers - hand-selected from the finest crop of new candidates of Officer Candidate School at West Point Military Academy - command their warships and crews with immaculate accuracy and unparalleled strategy. Only the best of the best make it to the First Fleet, and if you want to see yourself as the next commander of Liberty's state-of-the-art weapons of war, you'll have to fill the shoes of some very capable men and women.

Fleet Admiral
The supreme commander of the First Fleet. The Fleet Admiral maintains total control of the First Fleet's assets and objectives - high command veto notwithstanding - and uses this power, combined with his tactical and strategic determination, to lead the Navy, and the Republic it defends, into a new era of peace and security.

Admiral
The right hands of the Fleet Admiral, the Admiral(s) are highly experienced and well-trained flag officers, ready to command the First Fleet's assets at a moment's notice. In addition to their duties as second-in-command to the Fleet, they also serve as counselors to the Fleet Admiral during decisions of extreme importance.

Captain
A veteran member of the Navy's First Fleet, the Captain is, arguably, one of the most important roles in the First Fleet hierarchy. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the largest pool of budding officers and fleet commanders - the Mid Command - Captains are typically highly experienced, cool under pressure, and demanding - the finest Captains will find themselves in an Admiralty chair sooner or later. In addition to their traditional duties, most Captains also head a specific Division within the First Fleet, and are responsible for their effective operation.
»Permitted to fly or command all vessels up to the Liberty Dreadnought and Assault Carrier, including the Bretonian Destroyer, although the latter vessel requires the permission of the Admiralty or the Quartermaster.
Commander
Largely considered the first proper officer position, Commanders are the crème de la crème of the Lieutenant Commanders. Many Commanders find themselves serving as warship commanders, especially on venerable Defiant-class gunships - many a veteran of the Navy will gladly talk your ear off about their first experiences aboard one of these vessels. Nevertheless, this position serves as a test of any officer's commanding potential - the first true responsibility within the Navy.

Lieutenant Commander
Like the Commander, the Lieutenant Commander is placed under many tests of their potential to command. And, unlike the Lieutenants that precede them, Lieutenant Commanders are relied upon to lead squadrons of strikecraft in combat, and many Lieutenant Commanders take this opportunity to flex their warship commanding skills by requesting access to a Defiant-class gunship. Should they prove capable, they might find themselves receiving a communication from the Promotions Board before long.

Lieutenant
The bread and butter of the Liberty Navy's First Fleet, the Lieutenant is a capable pilot and a fledgling commander. It is not uncommon to see Lieutenants leading patrols in Liberty house space. Lieutenants are functionally identical to their Ensign counterparts, save in responsibility and the ability to captain Logistics vessels without the acceptance of the Quartermaster.

Ensign
The first commissioned officer position within the Liberty Navy, Ensigns represent budding but capable pilots that are on their way to something greater. Because of this, their responsibility, and thus their access, is rather limited.

Cadet
Despite the vast amount of colorful nicknames that many Lieutenants have designed for Officer Candidates in OCS, our Cadets are the best and brightest, freshly shipped from West Point's top class. Many will find themselves "shaking the paint off" with a senior officer in a patrol in anticipation of their dreaded checkrides. Becoming fully-fledged Ensigns not long afterward.

Commodore
Typically a senior officer - be it Commander, Captain, Vice Admiral, or Admiral - the Commodore is a highly experienced and highly trained Naval officer that has earned the respect of his or her equals by going beyond the call of duty. Their responsibilities change depending on their skillset and the Fleet Admiral's needs, but they always report directly to the Fleet Admiral and typically serve as a liaison between the Admiralty and the Mid Command.

Quartermaster
The Quartermaster is a position within the First Fleet dedicated to the maintenance and accounting of the Fleet's arsenal, as well as financial and logistical transactions between allied, friendly, and neutral partners of the Republic of Liberty. As with the Commodore, Quartermasters retain their former rank, but are expected to eschew their normal responsibilities in exchange for those of their position.

Division Focuses
Each subdivision within the First Fleet is headed by a Commanding Officer and one or more Executive Officers, which are typically assigned from the among the ranks of Captains and Commanders, respectfully. Naval Reserve Officer
Naval Reserve Officers, as they are designated, are members of the Navy undergoing an extended leave of absence due to illness, family emergency, or other serious matter. They retain the rank and responsibility that they held prior to joining the Reserves, but hold no operational command power until they return to their active duty status.

1FLTCENTCOM - First Fleet Central Command
Headquartered in New York.
Maintains operational control over the systems of California, Colorado, Ontario, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
The bulk of the command staff and strategic command elements make up 1FLTCENTCOM, and their role is to provide operational support to constituent Combatant Commands throughout Liberty. Patrol groups assigned to this command tend to focus on homeland security.
1FLTSCICOM - First Fleet Science Command
Headquartered at Juneau Shipyard, Alaska.
Maintains operational control over the system of Alaska and facilities therein.
Commands the Alaska garrison forces, ensuring the total security of Libertonian military secrets contained there. Primarily composed of External Security and Research Division elements and chiefly responsible for overseeing and conducting, and protecting high-risk research and development projects.
1FLTWESTCOM - First Fleet Western Command
Headquartered in Cortez.
Maintains operational control over the systems of Cortez, Magellan, and Coronado.
With the end of the conflict against the Gallic Royalists, the majority of the remaining forces are dedicated to the interdiction of contraband, dispatching of the enemies of Liberty, and the preservation of security.
1FLTEASTCOM - First Fleet Eastern Command
Headquartered in Texas.
Maintains operational control over the systems of Bering, Hudson, and Texas.
Eastern Command has recently flushed the Liberty Insurgency the system of Bering, and is now using it's reinforced fleets to maintain peace in the newly liberated system, on top of Liberty's previously claimed territories.
1FLTNORTHCOM - First Fleet Northern Command
Headquartered in Colorado.
Maintains operational control over the systems of Alberta, Colorado, Galileo, Kepler, and Ontario.
A much smaller Combatant Command, like its sister command, 1FLTSOUTHCOM. Northern Command forces are primarily tasked with ensuring the security of shipping routes through the Ontario and Kepler corridors. A small contingent of ESRD units are attached to 1FLTNORTHCOM, supposedly to engage in counterintelligence operations against Hacker forces, primarily centered in this region.
1FLTSOUTHCOM - First Fleet Southern Command
Headquartered in Magellan.
Maintains operational control over the systems of Kansas, and Magellan.
Largely defunct after the sudden collapse of the jump holes leading to Humbolt, Illinois, Quebec, and Yukon, 1FLTSOUTHCOM is primarily dedicated to small anti-piracy efforts in the fringe system of Kansas, as well as providing logistical support to Libertonian elements in Magellan.

In the Navy, you can put your mind at ease.
Joining the First Fleet of the Liberty Navy is no easy task. You'll be placed in a strict training regimen, competing with your fellow West Point graduates for a shot at the most illustrious fleet in the Navy. Many of you will try, and many of you will fail. But, with perseverance and hard work, you may find yourself a seat in the First. Still interested? You can find the recruitment dossier here. Note that we expect the following of all members, and you agree to these conditions as well as those in the Liberty Navy Constitution prior to applying:
»You are expected to be completely familiar with the rules and guidelines set forth by the Administrators of Discovery GC 24/7, located here. Breaking any of these while within the [LN] may result in demotion, suspension, removal, or exile. »As above, you are also expected to be familiar with roleplaying - this is a roleplaying server, after all. We do not expect perfection, but repeated failure to act in-character whilst in-game will result in consequences. »All members are required to hold at least one hour of activity on a non-shared vessel (or a shared vessel, if it can be confirmed) at the end of each month. Failure to do so may result in demotion or allocation to the Reserves. This can be suspended in the case of extenuating circumstances, although cases lasting longer than (1) month will result in your character(s) being moved to the Reserves. »You are expected to act with respect in regards to all members of the community, both inside and outside the [LN], and both in-game and on the forums. Failure to do so will result in demotion, removal, and/or administrator intervention, if deemed necessary. »Act as a fair player in-game. While this is hard to define, we expect you to conduct yourself with a degree of class and style. Relying on outnumbering or outgunning your foe is not something we encourage.
