America from what I understand. He's just using multiple proxies and going to several NAT layers so I can't get a 100% hold on his actual IP. But I do know that he is in the US, I just don't know where.

However, you know posting here is just giving him more laughs. I'm thinking we should stop posting here and move on to other things. Like RP on the forums, discussions in flood, no matter how silly, ect ect.

Bummer
Hopefully the Admins can find this person and perhaps bring him to justice in some form.

On topic of server hosting.
A 200 Slot server is going to be pretty pricey from GSP and not many evne host Freelancer.
But then again, we have our own Server just need a host or someplace to put it (Ie. Datacenters)

wow, lame, who would do such a thing...

i guess the only hope to keep the community alive is to try some hardcore forum RP while the server is down. i se an increase in rp hubs being opened to help maintain some form of Multiplayer ness.

on a side note, give me the location of this individual and i would gladly do random acts of violance to him behind closed doors.

I'm just trying to stop this guy from destroying more than what he already has is all. No, I don't have access to his router. No I don't have the software I have from work, you are correct. Because I don't want to end up in federal prison (even though it's already 45 minutes from home, but I digress)

I'm doing this the hard way, and it isn't easy. I've gotten information from a few people about him, where he's been, what he's done to other sites and I'm picking up the pieces from those sites and those people to put together a big picture, it's just taking some time is all.

No, I am just stating the facts. My credentials as an InfoSec professional runs back a hell of long time, including speaking at both Blackhat and DefCon, and being a founding member of a hacker (in the real sense of the word) group.
Tracing down a DDoS attacker in the manner you are saying you are doing is a waste of time, since you are unable to document anything, unable to collect and analyse any forensic evidence from computers and routers used in the attacks, and only goes by what you get from the AIM chat that alledgedly has been initiated by the attacker.

In my book, your approach is as much fail as what the scriddie did. None of what you might be able to collect can in any way be used to bring the attacker to justice.

As for what I am doing for the community to maintain and possibly prevent such things from happening again, those in the need to know knows. There's no need for me to post "look at me, I am a l337 haxorcatcher and I will save you all" messages on neither the forum, skype or any other means of communicating with the community.
Appearently you feel that need, which contradicts your alledged military InfoSec training big time, based on the experience I have working with both LEO and MIL InfoSec's for the past 20+ years.
Heck I'm so old in the field of computing, it wasn't even called IT back then, but EDP.

I'm sorry for trying to help then. It won't happen again.

' Wrote:UK server is down.....damn.....get him quick!

It was intentionally taken down by Josh when the load just got far to high, to prevent hardware damage.

I know it won't help much in the future, but I was in PM's with a friend who brought up an 'ownership' conversation.
Went something like this...

How about the Admins restrict access to the game until someone pays say 9.99 on paypal, per account. THAT way there would be less morons getting on, getting angry at the rules, and bombing the server, as well as instilling an 'I paid for this, so it's worth something to me' kind of ownership from the people who play. granted there's lots of kids who may have to beg mom n dad to pay it, but I'm sure most parents (like me) would pay anything to get thier kids to siddown n shut up.
A one time fee might give all players a sense of ownership and behaviour because it cost something, and because there's something to lose. It would also provide a nice 'kitty' from which admins could see to upgrades/repairs and the like. I would pay 20 bucks for my two accounts in a new York minute. And I'm sure anyone who's a solid member of this community would as well.
just food for thought, to maybe prevent this in the future.
Feel free to flame me up now. *cringes*
