Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Leo - 11-10-2009 ' Wrote:How about the Admins restrict access to the game until someone pays say 9.99 on paypal, per account. THAT way there would be less morons getting on, getting angry at the rules, and bombing the server, as well as instilling an 'I paid for this, so it's worth something to me' kind of ownership from the people who play. granted there's lots of kids who may have to beg mom n dad to pay it, but I'm sure most parents (like me) would pay anything to get thier kids to siddown n shut up. You can't. It's against the copyright agreement set in place by Microsoft, AFAIK. You can't charge for something that is copyrighted by someone else. There might be a loophole. I don't know. ~Leo Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Balanar - 11-10-2009 ' Wrote:You can't. It's against the copyright agreement set in place by Microsoft, AFAIK. Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - nxp1111 - 11-10-2009 everyplayer should be reiquired to sumit thier ip before loging into the server after the ip should be checked to ensure its not a proxy and then the accounts binded to that ip and banned if the account changes the ip so we don't have to worry about this kinda stuff Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Balanar - 11-10-2009 ' Wrote:everyplayer should be reiquired to sumit thier ip before loging into the server after the ip should be checked to ensure its not a proxy and then the accounts binded to that ip and banned if the account changes the ip so we don't have to worry about this kinda stuff This, or we could simply ban by IP when people are sanctioned. Temporary IP bans could be possible, or for more severe offenses, perhaps year-long IP bans could be in order. EDIT: I assume that Disco Server keeps track of login IPs. I thought you could charge for acess to the server hardware, but not the game itself. now, if the game is the ONLY thing on that server...well that's just tough cookies. It would be a pay per bandwidth thing...? Maybe? I dunno. @mwerte I totally understand your conflict with pay-to-play. But I'm thinking it preferable to free-but-no-play-cause-the-things-not-secure... EDIT 10 accounts = 10 characters. Transfer them and that's 2 accounts. do the same with accounts you're sitting on and youre down to 40 bucks tops. I spend more on dinner at a restaraunt, that I'll poop out later that night. I'd easily spend that for hours n hours of this wonderful game and you wonderful people *Sniffle. I miss ya already. However, I still believe it's against the law to charge for anything with a copyrighted game on it. Again, I don't know anything about copyright law. But, there may be a loophole like you said. I'm not certain. ~Leo Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - DarthCloakedGuy - 11-10-2009 I, for one, am not interested in pay-to-play, as I have no means by which to pay. And I have five accounts. Boo.
