RE: Remove pirate ID - Hidamari - 12-07-2013

regardless of how good the reasons are for having faction indies, of which i will mostly agree, does not change the fact that the server attitude as a whole does not like indies and never has done, they have no say in anything, they carry no weight as leaders or diplomats of their respective groups.

So why would anyone want to play a faction indie? you gotta be hardcore to take faction indie playing seriously.

imagine there were no caps, you'd never see a faction indie ever again. Big Grin rofl

I wouldnt miss them. Its true there are plenty of other ID's that allow you to go the direction you want, if its piracy you crave. Junker ID, Privateer/ Intelligence ID's, etc....

However I don't think it will really drive players towards factions because if they are using the Pirate ID with Freelancer IFF in the first place, they'll still be RP'ing as freelancers (until they attack). So they could do similar things with Outcast/Corsair ID's and Junker ID. In cases like that they rarely 'act' or rp by the ID and more so by IFF, the ID's just widen the ROE's for the character.

I dont remember the last time something was done to cater to indie players.

Nobody seems to give a rats ass about them.
You should try the Corsairs.
I know you haven't, because you said mean things about official-indie relationships and didn't offer any exceptions.
We of the Council and the Empire love and adore our indies, despite having one of the worst playerbases.
They are cuddly, cute, and willing to wage bloody, screaming, vengeant horrors upon our foes for the good of the Empire and all Ventru.
What more can one ask of a Corsair?
SPELLING?
Irelevant (see wut i did ther)
I expect only unending, unyielding loyalty to the State and the People, and obedience to the Elders whose will and worth have been forged and proven in a thousand battles, honours and title won with blood and sweat and death.
Plus we let you shoot Zoners.
ITS REALLY FUN.

Considering how they are pretty much a Terrorist ID, yes, I'd be up for this change.

Your making it seem that there is no room to create new factions from scratch.

Keep the Pirate ID, you shouldn't take away the ability for someone to be an independent criminal. What if things go sour with their original faction (i.e. ex-Lane Hacker turned independent pirate)? There should be an option for people who do not want to associate with individual unlawful factions.

On the other hand I see the Miner ID as absolutely useless, not in terms of someone being able to RP with it, but rather in relation to mining bonuses and how little ore they would be able to produce with it.

RE: Remove pirate ID - Ronnie Rayburn - 12-07-2013

Removing pirate ID's is a bad idea.

A few reasons come to mind. One of them is the basic idea of Freelancer. A Freelancer can be both legal, illegal or somewhere in between. So if the Pirate ID is removed, then by all means, the Freelancer ID should also be removed. That's actually what the OP suggests if you think about it. And I'm sure that's not what was intended in the OP.

The suggestion of nerfing it makes more sense. Indies would never be able to get their hands on first class corporate or military gear in reality, unless they were really friendly with them, and only then... Maybe... For that to happen, it would require permissions and SRP ID. A nerf to 75% seems reasonable, and maybe it should not only be the powercore. Maybe the damage output should also be nerfed. Open for discussion.

i'll be pissed with Freelancer ID is nerfed. You already have a small selection of ships to choose! DONT NERF IT FFS

yeah.... dont even think about it

RE: Remove pirate ID - wlr - 12-07-2013

If it was removed or nerfed the casual players would be even more casual about logging on to play.

RE: Remove pirate ID - Scumbag - 12-07-2013

You can still be an independent pirate with any ID, you can have roleplay different from the faction. This would just give you an identity. I just don't understand, generic pirates, where do they come from, who are they? You can't tell me that a pirate in Liberty has any other origin then a rogue. If he pirates he is a rogue by definition.

And about indies all i can say is that if your role play is good, no one can touch you. Even if they despise you.
