Well, I know a certain SF pilot spent months shooting Corsair Titans to get his Tizonas. Over 300 kills or such like in the same place.

But those that buy them ruin it for folk like this.

what about weapons that are clearly belonging to a certain faction but are not sold there? ( e.g. vengeance IV/V, lavablade IV/V ) - those are sold at battleship isis, omicron minor, toledo?

are those weapons <order> only weapons even if it says they are liberty developements and used throughout liberty in the description?

but how would a liberty get those weapons then - other than to purchase them there or loot?

How would Argentina get French (hence NATO) Exocet missiles to use against England?

How would african terrorists get USA built Stingers to threaten Israeli passenger jets?

Armed forces rarely make the weapons they use. Companies do. Those companies want to get their product into as many hands as possible (unless the company is state run, and probably even then).

It's not unrealistic to think that Aegira and Daumann and Kishiro shareholders would happily look the other way where the ethics of their company's salesmen are concerned.

Right then, seeing as I bought all my Corsair gunboat weapons on Corfu (including RH secondaries and defences) I better be going to replace some of them. I already have an idea....

I am against any weapons being used by factions hostile to the maker (or seller, in the case of Corps making them for their respective factions). If the selling place matters too (bought from a Zoner base), I will happily switch them out.

A better example is my Titan, using a single Order cannon, two nomads, a Colada, and two salamancas (with a useless tizzy turret:P). I would love to see the SF using some Ultra Sunrails or the other ones (forgot name, again) mixed with other guns at their disposal (such as liberty guns, it seems). Also, Mollys in werewolves with molly guns when they get better, Corsairs in Titans (believe it or not, some fly RTalons, not in TBH though...) etc etc.

Trying not to have a dig at the outcasts, so i mentioned Corsairs aswell. Don't kill me.

Firmly in the "use only guns that come from freindly or neutral makers" camp.

Argentina used their weapons against the Falklands, not England. England is thousands of miles away. [/Pet Hate]

Plus, the French may have sold them such weapons not knowing that war would follow.

Use your own guns, folks, or have a damn good reason otherwise!

RTalons for Corsairs is semi-acceptable, they are sold on Gran Canaria which has a large Corsair population.

Fine. Will you concede the point is I say United Kingdom? British troopers were stationed there, and a British task force reclaimed it. (hella off-topic. I appologize:))

Somebody else having guns that fill your need is a pretty good reason. If there's a strict code of uniformity that needs to be adhered to then that kind of ends the discussion, but it's horrible gamecraft. Balance: balance: balance. Anything else will cause squabbling and bitterness every time. (there's going to be squabbling and bitterness anyway, but if there's numerical parity the guy doing the complaining is obviously a sore loser).

If Zoners are selling it then all bets are off. They're defined by their neutrality in every aspect of the game. News or rumours. Vanilla or Disco. Not even Xenos are dumb enough to go red to Zoners.

Historically factions have often used captured enemy tech against them. Russians used German tanks and Germans used Russian tanks in WW2, and the Romans found a beached Quinquireme in SIcily (I think is where) made by the Greeks and reverse engineered it to turn it on them.

The way I see it if an enemy gun is better than yours you bloody use it. Faction rules of course are different but that not a server rule. RP is up to the beholder and I see no issue in using enemy tech because in the end warring is about winning. The idea of being all right and proper in war was always a BS fetishistic attitude. The winners always do the prudent thing.

BUt as always have a good reason to use them. Wrecks and salvage.

weps - bluntpencil2001 - 09-20-2007

It's one thing salvaging the odd gun, which might not be too reliable on your own ships, and mounting dozens of guns belonging to the enemy.

No way could you loot enoguh to outfit your entire Navy. No way, no how.

Yes but show me an example of a captured german 88 being mounted on an allied tank. Why would the turret and gun mountes of a Kusari ship be anywhere near compatible with those of a Bret? Salvage a gun shouldn't mean it just fits no problem.

Now, buying a gun from the Zoners or a neutral faction that makes their own equipment, I can see them installing it for you and having kits to make it work on various ship types. But Kusari ain't makin that kit for the Brets and the Brets aren't likely to requisition such a thing from their own shipyards. Instead they'd just reverse engineer the gun and have someone make it for them.

But the military industrial complex + politics + pork barrel + bureacracy being what it is, that's not gonna happen:)

weps - Quigs - 09-20-2007

There's no interface for swapping out guns on most tanks. Weapon pylons on a fighter is a whole different matter. Furthermore, the precedent has already been set that ships can be mounted with all kinds of different guns made by several different organizations. How many different configurations does the game have for, say, the Hawk?
