Ok so I never purchase hostile faction weapons. What about the ones I found on wrecks or loot from battle? Is that within RP? I would think so.

err, well the KNF has a policy where you can use up to two weapons from wrecks or enemy ships,
and I generaly go by that.. so you probaly can use em' i'd just keep it to a minimum.

EDIT: whoops. Sorry if thats a bit contradicting. Wrecks should be fine though.. Come to think of it
though, enemy looted weps isn't such a good idea.

As I'm finding out, if the weps are typically used against your faction, you may not use them even if they are recoverable from NPCs.

Example, if you're BAF, you cannot use Tizonas obtained from killing NPCs.

it makes roleplay sense in both ways. for example, looting a weapon from a wreck or enemy might be considered a trophy and being used not only cause the weapons might be effective, but also to "taunt" the enemy.
on the other hand, an enemy weapons might be considered "unfair" in modern warfare and being rejected by authorities. there s no real example of such a waepon in FL, but i m thinking of something like mass destruction weapons that may be considered a violation to mankind to the core systems - but maybe acceptable by pirate factions. however, such a weapon would not be used by a core system hunter as a trophy, but rather destroyed ( jettisoned and shot, not even sold )

besides the roleplay and what makes sense ... weapons in freelancer are also some sort of identification. so rheinland ships would commonly be seen shooting slow, but damaging green plasmas, while kusari is rather seen shooting rapid fire yellow beams. -

ok, i wrote so much and have no real opinion about that matter. roleplaywise, its OK to use enemy weapons - too bad weapons don t come as flagged in 2 versions ( bourght in a store vs. looted from a wreck ) - but i guess in order to keep the roleplay more intact, its rather down to what a faction uses in general. ( including allies )

Korrd has said that any weapon found on a wreck can be used by anyone.

That said, I'd say lawful factions, especially House military a police factions, would have stricter rules. I can see a pirate using the looted weapon from their enemy, or a mercenary, or a bounty hunter, maybe even a lawful trader faction, but not the military or police.

And, of course, an Outcast wouldn't be caught dead using a Corsair weapon, and vice versa, looted or not.

If a little roleplay was added you could say the looted weapons - especially from an enemy vessel - are not compatible with yours or your allies technology. Possible to make some engineering changes, but most will not work. Some car engines can be transferred between different makes, but for most this is not possible.

in the end is very much up to igiss. he s the one placing weapons in wrecks - adding them to vendors at bases, etc.

i never understood why zoner bases sell nomad stuff. i can live with toledo selling nomad turrets (they DO deal with nomads a lot) but nomad ships? its a bit like the nova - the description says its a development by the order. so its sort of down to the order and its allies to use it - yet its a must have for like EVERY faction if they want to deal any damage to a cap ship other than using a cap ship themselves. same with the inferno by outcasts (i think)
some stuff jsut does not make any sense. and its hard to draw a line. allow novas to every faction, but not coladas? sometimes equipment was placed somewhere just to be able to buy it - i think. no roleplay reasons apply to it - and the community has to make reasons up then.

If you want military and police to play by the "standard issue" rules bureaucratic organizations use it's going to get very restrictive. You'd have to fly with whatever loadout NPCs use, to the letter.

"Lt. Drake! Why is there a Magma Hammer on hardpoint 3 of your Guardian!? That hardpoint carries a Vengence in this man's navy!"

"Sir! Uh... I dunno... I guess like Magma Hammers... Sir!"

"Turn in your uniform, son. You're taking a nice long trip to Leavenworth."

Bo-ring.

Not as strict a limitation as that, but I see it as somewhat stricter than a pirate or many other characters. Only lawful or civilian weapons, for example, and not the weapons of any House or other factionwith which they're hostile (no BAF with Kusari weapons, etc.). Code names should obviously be available to anyone.
