A question about Jump Holes - Klaw117 - 06-19-2011 I am under the impression that a black hole is actually just a very dense, very strong worm hole. It has been theorized that black holes do actually have exit points called white holes. The only problem is that the singularity of a black hole is so deadly that a ship would be destroyed before it could ever make it to the white hole exit point. Otherwise, I think it could be theoretically possible for someone to travel to another universe via a black hole-white hole tunnel. Black holes/white holes and worm holes/jump holes actually appear to have some similarities. Both are regarded as gravitational anomalies and both have some sort of gravitational pull. In one of the infocards of a nebula in either Omicron-81 or Omicron-94, it actually says that the first person to enter the system was sucked into a jump hole from either Omicron Alpha or Omicron Gamma. I think the only difference between them is that you can survive a journey through a worm hole/jump hole, but not a black hole/white hole. Don't read so much into it. ' Wrote:I am under the impression that a black hole is actually just a very dense, very strong worm hole. Otherwise, I think it could be theoretically possible for someone to travel to another universe via a black hole-white hole tunnel. So far as I know, black holes and white holes are entirely different structures altogether. After you've been crushed to subatomic matter by its gravitational pull, you're not going to be spat out elsewhere. Really, white holes were just someone spitballing with Newton's law of 'equal and opposite reactions'. Then again, the whole thing is hypothetical until we can drop some probes into one and watch it vanish. Either that, or actually locate one from here and bend some light around it (or not, as the case would be). A question about Jump Holes - teschy - 06-19-2011 ' Wrote:A jumpgate is a stabilised worm hole, that connects to a certain spot. If you played singleplayer, you'd know that jumphole stability and alignment can be monitored, so you know when it's safe or not to make a jump. Ageira recommends them because the governments want to monitor traffic more efficiently. A question about Jump Holes - sadtranslation - 06-19-2011 ' Wrote:It was just a plot device. Don't read so much into it.It makes sense as a logical event, not as a contrived coincidence. The game mechanics just doesn't support it. (finger) A question about Jump Holes - Gaz83 - 07-21-2011 ' Wrote:inrp speaking, they are dangerous and you have a 50% change of dying in it... I always just assumed it was Ageria just making everyone think that, so they can hold onto their monopoly. A question about Jump Holes - r3vange - 07-21-2011 [color=#FFFFFF]There might be some dangers, but then again there are dangers driving a car or using the gas oven. The rest is just corporate propaganda in my eyes. If everyone knew the jumpholes are safe who would need terrifically expensive constructions to transport people form point /a/ to point /b/ A question about Jump Holes - Shagohad - 07-21-2011 I'd be wary about putting my life in the hands of some spatial anomaly that could change phase at will. It's like a waterfall. You can either use a rope or the waterfall itself to get down. The jumphole is the waterfall. A question about Jump Holes - Klaw117 - 07-22-2011 Didn't someone say that the NPCs give in-game dialogue when flying through space that says they can detect when a jump hole is safe to travel through and when it's not? |
