Do we know? Sorry, if it's already mentioned, 26 pages and all that. -Why'd he DoS us again? Former player with a grudge, kid on an ego trip, etc? -Why hasn't he tried DoSing the forums? Even with the mysql querylimit. Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - FreelancerFanatic - 11-10-2009 The forum did went down a couple of times due to 'too many connections'. Don't know if that was a hack or just us who have nothing to do with the server down. It'd be amazingly simple to keep the forums down 24/7 (well, slight exaggeration, but point is he could do it if he wanted to), but so far, not a sign of it. He would've done it by now if he wanted to, don't panic. Which makes me wonder who/why:P Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - n00bl3t - 11-10-2009 ' Wrote:The forum did went down a couple of times due to 'too many connections'. ' Wrote:-Why hasn't he tried DoSing the forums? Even with the mysql querylimit.Because he can't. The forum host isn't vulnerable to the DDoS he's using. Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Caelum - 11-10-2009 That would suggest he's just a kid with a DoS program/kid who knows someone with a botnet, then. Either way, not someone with too extensive knowledge. Thanks for answering;) Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Zack - 11-10-2009 ' Wrote:Hmkay, curiosity's getting the best of me:If it was done right, it's impossible to tell with a jumble of backscatter and spoofed IPs. LEOs are gonna have to take care of that. ' Wrote:-Why'd he DoS us again? Former player with a grudge, kid on an ego trip, etc? They said it was 'for the lulz,' this is what happens when script-kiddies rootkit some bots and can't think of a funner target. ' Wrote:-Why hasn't he tried DoSing the forums? Even with the mysql querylimit. This is harder said than done, I'm not sure if this is a dedicated box or not, but if it's on a shared host and they DOS it, that will knock out more than one site and they will have one very VERY angry web host after them. Plus most web hosts' load balancers will filter out illegitimate requests that are trying to DOS a server. The search page intentionally bottlenecks traffic, so that would be impossible to degrade service with. I've never heard of an SQL server being overloaded, although I'm sure it could be done, from my understand they're built to handle like... the whole everything at once. |
