If the cap ship pilot is good he will have a hornet or mosquito equipped and possibly keep you out of cruise, but thats one more thing to do while trying to hit a very fast little target. You may be thinking of different mods that put ultra high range torpedos on bombers in which case the bomber can actually fire the torp while out of range. you know, this might be a good theory to test on the PvP server...or in Connecticut as I don't have that much experience with cruise engine usage in battle we might try a few things in a fighter/bomber versus cap ship battle and see what happens.
