No, not if used correctly.

You can easily outmaneuver your opponent in a LF and shoot it from the back, while CD thhe target, so it cant EK all the time.
A light fighter swarm is even more deadly, I think 4 Liberators got no problem taking down a cruiser/destroyer.

The thing is, in a LF you have to be very patient, you are the one to dodge and wait for the right moment; of course, if you fly your light fighter like a Guardian for example, you got no chance.

Just like to says thanks for the input, of everyone, never thought so many people would answer so thanks!

Think i'll go with the GMG heavy fighter purely for looks (assuming either the tech change in 4.86 is what I think it is, or GMG allow it), and to see what its like, don't think I have the patience for a light fighter in all honesty. :D

Again, really appreciate people taking the time to answer my query, got a much better perspective on the use of light & heavy fighters than I did before.

:)

Quote:The Marauder, if you want to be the guy who brings almost nothing to a dogfight.
The Spatial, if can handle being targeted first in group fights. (Get good with mines)
The Arrow, if you are a boss.
The Sabre, if your (A: devoid of creativity) (B: lost all your dogfights in other craft) (C: Min-maxing for pvp on an RP server) (D: An outcast) (E: All of the above)

Fixed

I love the Scimitar. I even turns too fast for my taste, makes it hard to aim when you're dodging.

Had plenty fights in liberator aswell. And heavy fighters. Don't assume that I was a guy who flies straight forward. Positioning yourself, mine trapping (intentional, not random), sliding, boxing, early turns all that stuff was in my skillbook. And yes I had victories in HF's and LF's agaisnt VHF's. But those ships are only idiot proof. Like I said, once you face someone who is able to counter-manouver which is not "e kill/turn/joust" you are skrewed. Now of course you have a chance to be on par.. but that's it. Just to be on par against other VHF's (which is dubiuos as well) and be less effective and universal in dynamic sirius universe is a disadvatange which is not banaced out by pluses of lighter ship classes.

Then you face such balance issues you start to question what pvp nubs sits in balancing team. Connecticut was full of sabre using pvp whores for a reason.

My favorite ship is the Lane Hacker Bayonet HF. It's probably one of the HF's in the game; it is very hard to hit from above or below. The only downside is that it has a bad power core so you have to use class 8 guns instead of class 9's.

Most HF's are better with class 8 guns - HF's may have the slots to support class 9's but if you use them you'll be starved of energy all the time. Alot of people make the mistake of putting class 9's on HF's even though they can't really support them. You might be able to put two class 9's on an HF, but any more than that and you'll be hurting yourself because class 9 guns require alot of time and patience to kill anything larger than an HF.

If you decide to use an HF, don't make the mistake of believing you can use Class 9 guns. They don't do enough damage to kill the enemy and the energy requirements will leave you starved. HF's are vulnerable to being kited; it's easy to kite a ship that is agile. HF's die alot to mines as a result of being kited.

Flying an LF or an HF requires alot of patience and discipline; you need to know when to harass and how to avoid being kited which is very difficult to do successfully if you're fighting more than one opponent. LF/HF's are good at annoying the enemy but they can't carry a battle like VHF's do. I'm not very good at PvP, but I know what it takes to be a moderately successful pilot.

I think the Lane Hacker Bayonet is the best combination of LF/HF - it's small enough and daft enough that it's like flying an LF with a larger powercore/armor. It also has enough armor to survive most mine blasts. I would go so far as to say that the Bayonet outperforms every LF in the game except for maybe the Loki and SlipStream. The Bayonet can also kill heavy transports fairly well considering it's such a small ship. If you the best of the LF class and the HF class rolled into one ship then I would recommend the Bayonet.

Alot of people say LF/HF's are useless but these ships are meant to be used in groups. 3 Light Fighters is always better in a group battle than 3 VHF's. They will survive longer if they avoid being kited into mines. Two Light Fighters working together make a devastating combination because while one is dodging the other is harassing, and so on.
