Children of under 13 aren't 'generally' supposed to be on the internet. Get over it.

it's not the children it's the overly-sensitive adult males that can't tell the difference between inRP talk and ooRP talk

The swear rule is absolutely retarded and whoever thought of it should be thrown out there into the world because he/she deserves to have a mountain of swears thrown at his/her face at light-speed.

And exactly that attitude is what makes Admins enforce such harsh rules. Yes, I agree that swearing should not be reglemented so harshly, but instead of just flaming people who disagree with you, you should evaluate the points of the opposing side instead of just dismissing their arguments for the sake of a good rage.

I... didn't dismiss any arguments (?)

I basically just wrote my opinion on the subject right under a cynical line which I was too tempted not to type out. Because it's pretty true. You can't argue with that.

Cursing is part of RP, that's what I am saying. Don't try to get on some moral high ground by claiming that you do not 'need to swear' or whatever, just try to understand the logic behind Karsts (and by extension, my) reasoning.

Probably because the rule has nothing to do with RP and is concerned with people's OORP conduct. RP will always take a back seat to OORP considerations such as balance, atmosphere and fairness.

While I agree that I made the Star Wars comparison flippantly, it is true that Star Wars, Star Trek, BSG, Babylon 5, Stargate and other similar settings have all managed to craft mature stories with dark elements without using outright profanity. It's not absolutely necessary to portray a character.

Try redirecting the effort in this thread into Hidamari's Disco specific cusses thread instead.

Why not just have inRP swear words? Native to each house?
Like Rhineland and kusari already have them.

Considering the theme of the roleplay revolving around this mod, and the playerbase, I think it's safe for this to be rated "PG-13" instead of "E".

As I said multiple times, I understand your reasoning, but I still reserve my right to disagree. Yes, there is the possibility to avoid swearing. No, I don't think it should be necessary. It has been evaluated from side to side multiple times, and it's very unlikely to change, unless the attitude will shift from aiming for PG-13 to aiming for a higher PG, and I am able to deal with that, even if I disagree. And no, I will not invest the effort into inventing some curses for Freelancer, I sometimes come up with them inRP spontaneously, but that's all I'll do.

Ah, come on, this is the internet, in 2016. Don't try to tell us there is still "mental well-being" on the internet.

But even if there is, in spite of the swear rule we have there are far worse things happening in this community on these forums in order to decrease the "mental well-being of the community" than a d!ck here or a fück there.

Damn, what am I talking? God save us from new rules appearing to control our conduct in order to ensure our "mental well-being". Instead I would be more glad to see some ease in speech restrictions (at least on a roleplay level), more in-depth inspection of context and more sense to filter out hidden agendas and separate inRP from ooRP when evaluating sanctions.

RE: Swearing | Questions/Thoughs about it and RP - Hidamari - 01-09-2016

the speech restrictions are so draconian and unnecessary, its absolutely pathetic, and its just a downward spiral, the tighter the grip is the more people will use more and more obscure words to achieve the same effect, eventually those words just get banned too so the amount you can say just spirals down.

I dont want to play the part of a Saturday morning cartoon villain, im 27 years old, take off the stupid kid gloves, even if a child was born when this game was released do you really think they havent heard every curse in the world by now in this day and age? its so stupid.

the swear filter could AT LEAST replace all curse words with random assortments of @&%$£!*# symbols, instead of just deleting the entire sentence, that is just infuriating.

Legit questions:
- Is a term "squity-eyes" used purely in RP an insult against rules?
- Why not to introduce FLHook that simply censor words by default? (It finds out restricted words and pops up message anyway.)

already implented
You get warned, and if you say a swear word three times, you get kicked.
