There needs to be something that doesn't ruin the game but makes players really not want to risk having their ship destroyed. And boom, suddenly people run from impossible odds and traders pay rather than let them selfs be shot because there cargo isn't worth the demand.

As of now most players value their in RP lives at about 500k (as a pirate its the most I get out of an empty transport). There needs to be something about dieing that discourages it for everyone.
There's no death in Freelancer, so they're not actually risking their lives. It's just the hassle of using that escape pod...

Seriously if you want traders to interact with pirates instead of avoiding them, traders will need to have confidence that they have a chance at getting out of an encounter without losing. That means requiring pirates to opt-out of the combat systems. No more gunboats or bombers. You willing?

No more gunboats or bombers for pirates?
Nice, then every trader would run.
A fighter can't take a transport, even an unarmored one.

Nobody in Sirius has or wants insurance, apparently. It's a wonder Interspace Commerce stays afloat.

My personal opinion is that items destroyed before death should stay gone when you die, and that the price of bots/bats should be increased by 25-75%.
Anything more would be too much.

Some traders manage to die to solo fighters.

Fun fact: A properly equipped fighter can do more damage to a transport than a bomber can in the same amount of time.

+1

Now im a powertrader and i dont like to be pirated. Sometimes when pirates asks politely to stop i stop. They demand with good rp i pay and sometime extra. But if i see a pirate asking 5 mill credit for a cargo of profit 7 mill i prefer drop cargo shoot it and then fight the pirate and do as much damage i can. I did that before 4-5 times. I pay upto 2 mill but its not to the pirate but to good rp.
However yesterday i met a pirate with a bomber while i was in my kusari train. I didnt drop the cargo but try to flee with it using afterburner and backward fire, i survived 25k and reach near leeds done enough damage that force him to flee. Next time i will do this whenever i encounter a pirate making demand more than 2 mill.
Death to the pirates.

The idea is a permaban on death for transports, there would be no more traders just waiting for respawn instead of playing along.

So let me know guys what do you think about it. I think it could work and benefit greatly to roleplay.

I hate players who make it personal. This is a videogame. If killing you and stealing your ore "ruins" your day, then honestly you need to get away from the computer and go develop a real life.

That up there look familiar? its in your sig.

The solution to make people act more realistically in general is to make the server more realistic.

Frankly, this would mean the following:

Removing the tech chart and tech rules.
Strengthening transports and caps a lot. (Really, a lot)
Starflier upon death for everybody.
Completely rebalancing PvP to take into account price as well as performance.
Setting up a series of subsidies for houses to simulate the much vaunted "taxes"
And other stuff

I'm actually writing about how I'd do this, and it sounds really good, except for the part that people don't generally play this game to be realistic, and realism attracts a different demographic of player. Certainly we'd see a large player drop over time if the game became more realistic, which includes if we solved issues like this one to do with transports.
