Religious Control - swift - 06-09-2010 At least I guessed it was Warhammer stuff. D: Religious Control - n1kodemus - 06-09-2010 I have never understood religions and I propably never will. This pretty much sums up my opinion of religions. Viewer discretion is advised. Religious Control - Linkus - 06-09-2010 Those yapping on about how suicide bombings are happening RIGHT NOW (zomg) should remember that there are always reasons why certain people do not get along. For instance, why do certain people in the middle east dislike the USA? If you can't come up with a reason other than: 1) They dislike westerners 2) They a different race 3) They are a different religion group Then you need to learn more. The roots of the conflict in the middle east goes back a long time, with recent history being very important too, and not so good for the western world. Religious Control - Sabre120 - 06-10-2010 I severely dislike religion, though I am happy if people wish to follow a religion, its none of my business. The premise of Religion is good, but in practice it never works, people will always be corrupt and religion will be interpretted in the wrong way. Lets face it, it has been the focal point for many destructive conflicts and is the cause of many problems in the world. Religious Control - Korolia - 06-10-2010 Hey, at least it didn't turn into something like this; [...] Amira: I am currently studying sociology as well and I am also trying to get my head around the four classical social theories functionalism, Marxism, conflict sociology and social interactionism zay: you suck your going to hell because you dont beleive in god you dummy!!!! -- This said, I simply don't see the need for any religion, or for them to have control. What use are they for us? You don't need a priest to make the distinction between good and bad. You can do it yourself. In doubt, ask just about any figure of authority, be it a teacher, a doctor, hell, a policeman if you are really that desperate. So what else is religion useful for? Giving us answers on the unexplained? Like, "the world is plane, Earth is the center of the world" and other wisdom such as "how was the world made?" Give science some more time, and it'll probably explain just about everything... you want to search true answers to the unexplained, maybe opening a book for facts instead of a story read between lines with a million possible interpretations will give straighter answers... Religious Control - Primitive - 06-10-2010 Religion is for the people who think they life sucks and they can't suck it up and change something. Being an idiot and having something to hope for without actually trying to get it...is called believe. Good part of people on this planet are miserable and they need something--> easiest exit is church and religion Religious control, yep it exits. Hell man, the first man who started to write bible is a god for me. Imagine the smile on his face when he wrote all this stuff and it actually worked. I am just sorry poor man didn't see the power of that fairy tale today. So Kudos to bible author ! Religious Control - Linkus - 06-10-2010 I would like to point out that religion WAS the science of the past, the logic that people came up with, the meaning they could produce from all they could see and measure. Without religion and the resulting focus on knowledge and scholarly pursuit, we would be at least centuries behind where we are now. Consider that religion came about for a reason, not just to make money but from actual logical thinking. I would also like to ask this question. What is the difference between a person being alive and dead? What causes the body to well..give up? The term fighting spirit could have a proper meaning. Religious Control - Primitive - 06-10-2010 ' Wrote:I would also like to ask this question. 1. 2. Rotten organs or disease (again something eating your organs or cells) if the question is not about an old age Religious Control - Sarawr!? - 06-10-2010 ' Wrote:Religions have an enourmous control over their believers. They can state almost anything and as long as it's within reason, any adherents in that religion will consider it valid and true. People will argue, fight and die for these reasons. This is an extremely powerful influence the religions have over their followers. People find comfort and security in their religions so why would they question it? This is the main problem with "Organized Religion" and I say that as a person who considers herself religiously faithful and a believer in the teachings of my faith. However, there aren't many Religious bodies in the world now that are capable of rousing such power, or of putting it to use. In regards to the sort of power that you've mentioned, The Vatican (Catholic Church) and the many many Fundamentalist Muslim Imams tied to "Extremist Organizations" are the only groups capable of wielding Religious faith as a weapon in this day and age. Note, I haven't said that all Muslims do this or have the desire to do so, only Fundamentalists, as with any religious fundamentalist. Also, I'm not saying that The Vatican has the desire to use Faith as a weapon either, just that they are the only other group capable of doing so in our current time period. It just so happens that the two most influential religious groups left are The Catholic Church, and Fundamentalist Imams along with of course, but not limited to, the Ayatollah of Iran. Aaaanyways, to go on and attempt to provide my answer to the question of "Should these groups possess such power?" I'm going to go ahead and say no, No, when a Religious body of any sort has absolute and unquestionable power over a major population it is NEVER a good thing, not ever. Religious groups leading nations and large communities tend to have a nasty tendency of revoking civil liberties and censoring information. That's not to say that people shouldn't belong to their respective religious groups and that large populations should not come together for worship, it's just that when you've a large group of faithful people together in one area, they should be allowed to question the 'authority' or the 'teachings' of their religious leaders, when faithful people lose those two abilities, it is never good. There's my two cents. Edit: Looking back a few pages, Ophidian raises an excellent point about Organized Religion that I would like to say is pretty much true. Religious Control - Linkus - 06-10-2010 At 1pm the person was alive. At 1pm and 1 second, the person was dead. Why? The body gives up, that is true. Due to the damage to the body usually, though pain can be another cause which provokes even more questions. But what is it that even keeps it going? What suddenly says, "Right, I'm off chaps, gg"? |
