Those 'balls' are used to store salvage/minerals from what they harvest. In my opinion it doesn't look 'negative' unless you set your mind into thinking like one. But i can re-adjust them front to back instead of left to right.
Don't worry, The VHF model has 2 as well but they are part of the engine housing. The bomber won't have any below, but on top as a single unit for its ability.
