This indeed is a mod for the game "Freelancer" made by Microsoft, and I honestly don't know why its so popular either. The game doesn't shot up anywhere, but we get a few people trickling in and out now and then. Rather interesting to watch actually. Welcome to Discovery, this is the forum website for the main multiplayer server (You will notice it on the list with the most people in it, as this is the primary server) Please note that this place IS roleplay. Taking a active role in a character you create, and playing out that persons life in addition to the normal game mechanics. Pirate, Trade, join a military, do something crazy, its all up to you in this game as long as you don't break any rules which are conveniently located HERE To get started, download the mod from HERE and install it. That should add an icon onto your desktop labled "Discovery Freelancer" after its all done, simply run the game, select multiplayer(if not, single-player) and connect to the Discovery 24/7 RP server. Look for an [Angels] tagged person ingame, they help out the new players get situated on what they want to do in the game. There are plenty of factions around, each and every single one of them having some lore, and different circumstances to roleplay, fight, and even perhaps pirate in. Its a lot to learn, but I am sure you can find a good place to fit in. Well, good luck, and see you around! RE: new guy with questions - Kazinsal - 08-02-2013 This is definitely a Freelancer mod. One of the most comprehensive vanilla-extension mods out there. And the most active. You'll see upwards of 160 people on the server at any given time during peak hours, and heading down to around 40 at night. There are easily several hundred people active on the forums taking part regularly in the roleplaying that this game is based around, and several hundred more who just play the game without getting involved in all the in-roleplay politics. To set up the mod you need to download it (see the sidebar on the right), and a fresh installation of Freelancer. Follow the instructions in the setup program you download for Discovery. While it's all installing, I suggest you read the rules thoroughly and familiarize yourself with them. If you need any help understanding some aspect of the mod or roleplay or whatever, the [Angels] group in-game is there to help anyone who needs it. See you in space! RE: new guy with questions - Chrysalis - 08-02-2013 First of all, hello and welcome the the discovery gaming community. Yes, this is indeed a mod for freelancer. :> The activity is considerably high for a freelancer server, but I can say it's seen better days. A full server where you would have to wait for 10 minutes to join at a time, compared to the current 140-150 player peak. I suggest you go over the extensive rules of the server, get yourself familiar with roleplay, and find a faction to join. There's many of them out there, so you'll probably find something that suits you. Good luck. EDIT: wow, ultra ninja'd. RE: new guy with questions - Hone - 08-02-2013 Id also say take a look at the welcome section: http://discoverygc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=15 As its got helpful threads and guides for newbies and such. Its the place where this thread should be, as this forum is for talking about technical aspects of the mod, ect. RE: new guy with questions - BigZ - 08-02-2013 thanks for the replys guys actully so please about it lol i get its roleplaying done it before so i get the general idea pirates kill stuff police try to stop it lol anyway il try to get this set up see you in space soon i hope |
