my Network is just a "net" right now... - 13CentKiller - 11-14-2008

Seriously.

ALL computers are in the same work-group. Firewalls disabled and my Desktop won't detect the shared 750GB external Hard drive connected to my desktop downstairs.

I'm a complete networking n00b. I remember fixing this somehow last time, but I can't remember how. I am still running Windows XP SP2 on this machine. SP3 is on the machine downstairs.

I can ping my desktop from my laptop. But I can't ping my laptop from my desktop. Any ideas?

I neez hulp gain:(

I'm also not a wizard with networks.
The only issues i can think of is MAC control or different protocols.

Any more ideas?

I just formated. I don't understand what could have gone wrong. Seriously. my laptop didn't have this problem, and its a fresh installation of windows also.

Is there a program or something I can run a diagnostic to see whats wrong?

Well the Windows LAN settings are generally pretty screwed up..Same thing happened to me also after reinstalling my windows...Could connect to the laptop from my desktop but not the other way around..

I'm sorry i can't currently help you, but if I remember how I fixed my situation I'll post it here..Good luck though
