Leon

It has been quite some time - more than three years, to be precise - since we last communicated. I genuinely hope that you are still among the living, free from any lingering health issues stemming from your relatively recent encounter with Kepler radiation.

I am reaching out to you once more regarding technical complications with my Starflier-made jump drive. Recent gravity pulses, measurable across Sirius, have resulted in malfunctions, and according to your firmware, recalibration is necessary. While it is a challenge we could likely surmount independently, the most straightforward solution would be to seek your expertise as the manufacturer of this device.

Attached, you will find the error reports generated by the control unit and relayed to my vessel's computer.

Cordiali saluti,
Fiorella A. De Marco.

It has been some time, hasn't it? It's no surprise you sent this message to us after recent events regarding the pulses.

I'm not much of an engineer myself, though I am familiar enough with the process Albert McKenzie followed to construct the device he gave you. The construction blueprint itself is widely available, however the firmware is licensed from Kishiro Technologies. If something of a wire is loose, I'm sure Albert can look over the error reports and see what he can do.

Thanks for your concern about my wellbeing, I am very much still kicking. We settled down in another section of the independent worlds a couple years back. Kepler is now a distant memory.

As always, Godspeed

It is indeed heartening to learn that you have managed to surmount these potential health issues. As I understand, radiation-induced DNA damage is frequently an irreparable affliction. Remain vigilant as I would certainly not underestimate the importance of preventive healthcare in your own or your employees' situation. I had my share of experience with radiation sickness as well.

As for our other matter - Indeed, I am well-informed about the broad accessibility of these plans. However, it is always prudent to seek counsel from individuals versed in the nuances of specific equipment, possessing an acute awareness of the particular challenges to anticipate.

Please do apprise me of the recommendations that your chief engineer deems most suitable.

Until we talk again, Signor Leon.

Cordiali saluti,
Fiorella A. De Marco.

I heard Kepler is now called a death trap by some. Only the daring would enter and even then some don't make it back alive. I was right to leave that place with everyone else when I did.

Albert is on site as we speak, I shall forward your error reports to him. You may get a response from directly on this comms line.

As always, Godspeed

Hello, Albert speaking.

I am not surprised our first jump drive has shown some wear and tear, losing it's potential in the process. It is a one of a kind device, in the sense that the device was manufactured by us. Your error reports are informative, as these were compiled by the standard error checking system I put in place whilst it was originally being constructed.

In order to get the drive repaired, I will allow you docking access on the Starfliers Research Complex within the Inverness System. This way my team and I can visually inspect the misalignments and correct anything else we notice. If I remember correctly, your vessel was designated the Amalfi? Please do confirm this as I'd like to make sure I get your ship's signature correct.

Signor McKenzie

I extend my gratitude for your expeditious correspondence. Indeed, the vessel under my command is just the Amalfi these days; my tenure with the Maltese Defence Forces and Guardia Svizzera has ceased. Disclose the coordinates of your installation in the Inverness system. You may anticipate my arrival in the coming days.

Cordiali saluti,
Fiorella A. De Marco.

Inverness System, beside Planet Cannish. We're out in the open out in Sector Foxtrot 4. The Amalfi's ship signature has been added to our inbound docking system. I have instructed our teams that a familiar device will be returning for assessment.

Signor McKenzie

I must confess that I am less than enthused about the new tenants at your Inverness station - the Technocrats. For reasons unknown to me, they awaited the arrival of my vessel at your station - a circumstance I hope was not forewarned by any among you. Fortuitously for us, and less so for them, your base lies sufficiently close to Invergordon, enabling the completion of the calibration there.

I trust you have not allowed the Technocrats to impose any constraints upon you. I prefer independent Starfliers than leashed ones.

Cordiali saluti,
Fiorella A. De Marco.

Ah, yes. I was focused on getting our equipment in order, rather excited to get my hands on the Rift-Jump Drive. Enough so for the thought of the Technocracy blockading your way here to not cross my mind. I apologize for this.

Despite being located within Inverness, no such constraints have been imposed. None that prevent us from operating on your Drive. I am a little displeased myself to learn you had the Junkers make the calibration corrections. I guess I'll tell my team to shut down our holographic suite.

I am sure Leon would say the same, nothing has changed with us except our living situation. Substituting Kepler for Inverness doesn't mean we gave up our independency. My team and I are still willing to meet, though it may mean a place of your choosing.

Signor McKenzie

It appears there has been a misunderstanding. While the Junkers are indeed resourceful for a myriad of tasks, entrusting them with the maintenance of something as intricate and sophisticated as my jump drive would be an oversight on my part. My other preference lies with my own people, among whom are counted the finest engineers in Sirius itself.

At present, the Junkers prove invaluable as a secure haven for my own vessel, safely beyond the reach of the Technocrats - unlike your own station, which they have managed to blockade against the Amalfi. Should you still be inclined to repair my drive, I would suggest a meeting aboard the Invergordon, unless the Junkers have some reason to want your heads.

Cordiali saluti,
Fiorella A. De Marco.
