An explanation of the mining strategy:

The mining drops are meant to be low. The reason for this is the very high sell prices for the ore at the distant trade locations.

The local sell points, like Java station are not meant to make much money. It is a relatively low risk trip and so it doesn't make much profit.

The tau-23 fields are supposed to take 15 mins to mine a 1000 units of ore for a single ship. From your description and my own testing I think they drop this. If you do this right you'll make in well excess of 30 mil per hour per ship (after paying pirates and escorts!).

Another thing to recognise is that the mining system is built so that people spend most of their time mining and not trading. That's why the ore sell prices are high. This is also why yeilds are low. I'll point out that they are even lower if you don't have the right id/iff/equipmetnt, etc.

The last point is that the mining system is designed for groups although certain high risk fields are mineable efficiently with fewer ships.

When you're reporting bad yields please provide the data in this way:

- The number of units mined in 10 minutes by a single ship.
- The ship type, id, iff and guns.

One last thing, we will not be increasing the yields of the fields in Tau-23. Not a chance.

I want to help! Use this for record! Great Justice Ensues!

Code:
[quote]Ship:
ID:
IFF:
Field:
Results after 10 minutes of mining:
Thoughts:[/quote]

1) Mining ID no longer requires any specific IFF. Yay progress.
2) Please read the Q & A in the mining guide before asking your question here. WHERE IS THIS SOLD and DO I NEED ID questions that were covered in the Q & A will be deleted without comment.
3) Every mineral field was tested to match our goals, so the drops should all be within norms. If you feel that the drops are off please fill out the template above to tell us what you got.
4) Read Cannon's post before saying that Ore should be purchased 3k from the field. We're supplementing the trading system, not replacing it with something which lets you powermine 15 seconds from safety.
5) If you want to thank anyone for this mod thank Cannon. He's the guy who made it happen. Preferably in the form of buying him beer.

I have a small question, why does the BMM get a bonus for mining beryllium in an area that according to all the infocards surrounding the area states that its the IMG mining there. And howcome the IMG gets a lower bonus?

EDIT: also, where in the new berlin system do they buy the niobium ore (i searched for it on the UK server, but i couldn't find its location anywhere)

Thanks cannon! I'll test the leeds now!
Ofc Dusty thanks to you, but you pointed ppl to cannon.

More about BMM,

while niobium sells both inside Bretonia for a mid profit, and half across sirus for lots of cash, Gold only sells farfar away.
Why is that? Niobium Ore can be sold at Kensington, and one should think that Bretonia has the facilities to process Gold Ore as well.
Maybe put in another sell point in Newcastle, that systems could use some uses.

BMM wouldn't ship their ore half across sirus, either the refine it themselves or sell it to Gateway and Bowex for export.

(haven't tried out beryllium yet)

Mining System Feedback - Exsiled_one - 10-25-2009

well they placed it like that to be equally chore-ish as trading. meaning that you can't make (alot) more than trader.

Mining System Feedback - Markam - 10-25-2009

The further away the sell point the more the profit usually, BMM can mine niobium in Leeds however and sell it closeby, the profit is not that great.

Also, there is only one berylium field in Tau 23 I'm pretty sure, and it's controlled by npc BMM miners, IMG mines Niobium at Java (even in vanila) and Falkland, it's the resource BMM has more issues obtaining hence the desire to expand, Leeds niobium is running out. There is however IMG Beryrlium in Cambridge, though the idea is IMG focuses on Niobium for huge profit BUT they actually have risk of being attacked by Outcasts Profit-Risk balance.

IMG in Bretonia is relatively safe, no Outcasts there. Mollys dont touch IMG in Dublin and corsairs are weirdos and theres a long history of them mistaking IMG for notsohostile, they were repfixed lately and SHOULD by all rights pirate/shoot IMG to hell, just like vanila.

We have today tried mining in Tau 37 field. Two miners, CR Ids, IFFs and mining turrets. IN about 20 minutes or so, we gathered about 1,2 thousand I believe. I wonder how does the bonus work seeing I could shoot only 1-4 ore and pytho next to me could do the same.

Mining System Feedback - Markam - 10-25-2009

I suppose I should've mentioned there are some bugs currently, I have mined gold and gotten only 1-3 per shot, decided to go to eat, 10 minutes later the rocks are back to 1-10 units.

While it's clearly a bug, I guess it mirrors the nature of mining, get some bad veins and get weak yield. It'll be fixed I'm sure though.
