        Areas of Interest

        Nebulae

        The Labyrinth

The defining feature of Tau-61 is a collection of three large clouds and several smaller ones composed of interplanetary matter and gas. Unusually, this formation is gravitationally bound to an unknown, yet immensely massive body hidden within. The danger and unpredictability of the particles in these nebulae have collectively given the clouds itself its name - the Labyrinth.

Curiously, the Labyrinth’s presence and position in Tau-61 shields the system from distant sensors directed from Sirius, making it unnoticeable from afar. The interplanetary cloud complex has this reflectivity precisely because of the crystalline and icy fragments found within.

Although seeming like a decent refuge for craft looking to evade notice, the Labyrinth is a perilous death trap. Sensor readings show a massive gravimetric disturbance inside the cloud that poses a very real danger to ships should they lose their bearings and get too close.

        Stone Veil

The Stone Veil is one of the three major clouds that make up the greater Labyrinth stellar structure. Notably, the composition of the cloud features exotic particles that would be more at home in the Edge Nebula of eastern Sirius than the Barrier Rim, as well as significant trace materials typically found in planetary environs. Sensors indicate the presence of strange bodies within.

        Pontus Cloud

The Pontus Cloud is situated in orbit of one of the two stars of the Tau-61 system and primarily composed of icy fragments of water, hydrogen and methane. Gravimetric disturbances indicate the presence of a sizable celestial body within its depths.

        Asteroid Fields

        Nesoi Ice Field

The Nesoi Ice Field is a vast arrangement of ice fragments, mainly made up of hydrogen, nitrogen, water and methane. The major chunks of the field are closely aligned, suggesting that it formed from the fragments of a passing comet.

        Wrecks

        Spectral Falcon I - E/D-5/6

The remains of a Sabre-class fighter that still bears the golden cross of Malta on its hull. The Spectral Falcon's propulsion and maneuvering system is badly damaged, making it safe to assume that the pilot lost control of his own ship due to wandering too close to Achlys.

The identity of the pilot remains unknown, but all weapons, ship's recorders, and the escape pod have been artfully removed from the ship. The ultimate fate of the pilot and missing equipment remains a mystery.

        Contains:

        Hoarding Bride - E/F-7/8

The pilot of this small and nimble freighter, Charlie Swift, hailed from Liberty. She worked with the IMG and was known for her vocal opposition to the Outcasts, who put a hefty bounty on her head.

Sensor analysis indicates that her ship was severely damaged, and two of its three fuel tanks were hit. Although her final moments are speculative, Charlie probably lost her bearings in the endless clouds of the Tau-61 system and ran out of fuel. Her desiccated remains are still present in the cockpit of her ship.

        Contains:

        CLN Limousin - D/E-2

During one of the many heated battles between the Royal Navy and Council forces, the Tarasque-class battlecruiser CLN Limousin sustained heavy damage in an engagement with the Triomphant-class battleship RNS Finistere. Desperate to escape destruction, the vessel fled through an uncharted jump anomaly, overloading the capacity of the connection and causing it to collapse. Though it emerged on the other side, its hull was crushed by the spatial distortions and its reactor went critical.

The ensuing explosion ripped the warship apart, and it went down with all hands. The wreck now rests within a cloud of its own dangerous remains, the residual anomalous energies of its fateful journey and destruction threatening to tear apart any would-be salvagers.
