Background

Maltese Military Research Institute was formed shortly after 101st Ghosts of Razgriz vanished. A group of soldiers with interests in science decided to form The Institute to handle the technology that made Outcasts stand on higher ground than the rest of humanity, whilst launching offensive attacks using state of the art technology and collecting valuable scientific/tactical data. With their passion towards preservation of peace within the nation of Malta and their drive to safeguard the Maltese people, they're the most loyal and generous Maltese.

The dark space of Omicron Phi provides them with the cover needed to protect Military secrets of Malta, whilst giving them enough space to conduct research and provide strategical headquarters if Malta was ever in a need. Code of conduct is highly restrictive and unforgiving. Generosity and sharing of information and technology outside of the Maltese people is explicitly forbidden, nor bribes. Breakers of this are sentenced to the worst death possible. Likewise, breaking the law either in a written or unwritten form is severely punished. Administrators are of permanent position and may not leave the group once submitting themselves to the pact.

If a miracle is to happen where they die and are revived, their sentence of service is still enforced. Every year, Administrators are required to undergo additional severe military training and are pushed to their limit and beyond to keep their bodies in the best shape possible. Likewise their intelligence is not lacking and exceeds that of other Maltese, Professorship attained from the best Universities of Malta, with topics concerning IT, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. On the other hand, they can be less than mature at times, their burning passion for Malta often drives them to childish actions in space.

Some Administrators are kind and helpful to anyone in need of assistance that is capable of asking in a proper manor. Given the background of the majority, they were similarly raised in an environment where family comes before everything else, and taking care of other Maltese was, is, and always will be encouraged. Each administrator has access to their own RM-2A "Storta" Destroyer for diplomatic, offensive or defensive purposes. With their love for Malta and its people, they produce, repair and upgrade Maltese Warships and technology in general. Even today the majority of the Maltese work force consists of slaves, the same is true for the Insitute.

However, over time the Institute looks to replace those slaves with AI, robots and machines. Which are highly effective at the given job, do not need rest or food, and occasionally need to be maintained. But even the Institute's administrators have their limits, and a large scale change such as this has already cost them years, Eventually they will relocate former slaves to different places, possibly back to Malta for field work away from Maltese warship construction.

Guards (Guardia) of the Institute are the most patriarchal and brave Maltese commanders. They are often given an insight as to the current developments of the Institute in case they're interested in the advances of technology at hand. "M"altese "N"aval War"S"hips and their captains are generally looked up to, as they protect Malta and the Maltese people against any who dare threaten the Maltese people or their way of life. Despite political or personal reasons and hatreds. The "101st Ghosts of Razgriz" are to be remembered and revered for most of what the Maltese have today.

13th Squadron is comprised of elite IRMM Agents and the identities of these people are known only to Administrator themselves. 13th itself as a name was chosen to represent enemy's doom when meeting these pilots. Squadron can freely engage any hostiles anywhere within Malta's reach without prior Administrator approval.

Additional Funding

Most of the funding for Omicron Phi comes from Warship and Technology selling. Malta has plenty of wars with ships in a need of repairs or upgrades. And to boost their own economy, Corsica produces a wider variety of vessels that are exported to stations both inside and outside of Omicron Phi.

Bases of operation

Corsica Outer Sanctum
Massive black asteroid base partially constructed by unknown hands. Nowadays it's the main base of "Maltese Military Research Institute", producing the most massive of Maltese Warships. Internal structure contains giant storage space taking nearly a half of the base size, which is hidden under the city. On the scale of taking space, second one is the massive supercomputer array, holding information raging from simple door access to secret projects run by the Institute. It's a full fledged city built for any needs necessary. With several interconnected Ranseur class Singularity Reactors it's not possible to run out of electricity in foreseeable future. And every Maltese is given a choice for PDA or Neural implant to have means of interaction with the city and chats with other Maltese on board. Crime is literally unexistent due to only the most patriotic Maltese living inside. With everyone having a Military training, it's not suitable for anyone to conduct crimes. The Cardamine City is the pinnacle of Maltese ingenuity ran by The Institute, holding many secrets to Maltese way of life.

Dreadnought Captana
Warship of former 101st Ghosts of Razgriz. Used to be only maintained before Administrators decided to upgrade it's internal parts and outer hull. As the Main-Battle-Dreadnought of Omicron Phi, it receives the most care and ideas from Maltese pilots all around the space. Currently holding sellpoints for Snubs, it's the coordination HQ for squadrons, just as Corsica is for capital fleet. A testbed for the newest technology.

Bastia Station
With its extensive cargo space modules its able to survive long periods of time without resupply, since access to Omicron Phi is restricted to all but Maltese. Serving as a recon outpost for any would be attackers it holds holds several squadrons of Carabelas, Rapiers and Falcatas, always on alert and ready to take action. Outifitted with extensive Scanner and Communication array, this station holds the 1st line of defense of Corsica Outer Sanctum.

Area of operation

Omicrons mainly, but may conduct war in line with Maltese politics and piracy for valuable cargo. Diplomacy and trade is not restricted by borders or nationality as long as it benefits Malta.

Omicron Phi is considered a Guard system, and as such, any and all violators shall be exterminated on sight or taken into custody for interrogation. This includes a 10k security zone around Omicron Phi hole in Omicron Alpha.

Organizational Structure

Administrator
Agent
Trainee

Two dishonourable demotions are grounds of consideration for firing squad lead by an Administrator. Execution is public and may not be officially stopped once started

Goals

  • Giving The Maltese Military an edge over the rest of Sirius
  • Intelligence gathering
  • Launching offensive attacks against current enemies
  • Studying any technology or space to expand knowledge
  • Developing new technology
  • Protecting Malta and its people

Technology

Maltese Technology, Capable of using edgeworld/borderworld tech with approved exception.

Politics

• Allied:
Any Maltese law-obiding group or individual

• Neutral:
Golden Chrysanthemums - Cardamine traders within Kusari, and exclusively women.
Junkers - Cardamine and scrap traders with neutral stance with Houses. Good politicians.

Lane Hackers - Cardamine and information traders.
Liberty Rogues - Cardamine traders and piracy force within Liberty.

• Unfriendly:
Blood Dragons - Devoted warriors of Kusari to overthrow current government.
Gallic Brigands - Cardamine traders within Gallia.
Nomads - Left hand doesn't know what the right one does.
The Commune - Great soldiers which vanished from Malta and are under Vagrant Nomads.
The Core - Imperial incarnation of The Order.
The Oracles - Outlawed, yet a good source of information on K'Hara Nomads.
Zoners - White-horse group of people to supply Maltese nation.
Foreigners using Maltese technology.

• Hostile:
Any unauthorized machine or organism inside Omicron Phi.
Foreign Intelligence agencies in Maltese Controlled space.
Any group or individual considered hostile by current politics of Malta or shows signs of Anti-Maltese politics.
Infectees in general.
Everyone else.

Due to a very volatile nature regarding Malta and people torn between "Spirits are gods", "Nomads are friends" and "Aliens should die", Institute will stay distanced from them. As such, if we see them in Omicron Alpha it becomes a case by case diplomacy.

Example B Wrote:All those who betray the trust and safety that the Maltese provide, shall be scattered to the wind like rats, to starve to death under the darkness of the void. Malta is absolute, and shall suffer no traitors.

Example C Wrote:Hear my Sermon Maltese people! One day all of Sirius shall understand their mistakes, they shall flock to our corner of space, our empire. Seeking forgiveness and asylum, but by then there shall be no safety, no open arms, they shall burn as it will have been too late. Judgement day has passed and all who deny the Maltese today, will rot tomorrow.

Example D Wrote:The Deadly Symphony of your demise rings out to the heavens, the time of your glorious death is upon you! Begone pathetic worm, for Malta!

RE: IRMM~ Maltese Military Research Institute - Decktare - 09-07-2019

I don't have anything against the faction itself. But I do have some concerns about the technology you describe in the last 3 posts in this thread. Technologies such as antimatter, dark matter, and singularity reactor sound too advanced for the Freelancer universe, as apparently even the more advanced Houses don't have them yet and utilize thermonuclear fusion instead.

I understand that it is just a bit of lore, intended to create the air of the bleeding-edge technology. However, I think these technologies shouldn't be invoked from thin air, but rather studied first extensively through RP. I'm only bringing this up because I'm in a similar position now, putting together the RP for inventing a power generator based on dark matter.

With that said, I wish you best of luck with your officialdom request, and hope that you won't dismiss my point entirely.

RE: IRMM~ Maltese Military Research Institute - Spectre - 09-07-2019

As far as I'm aware, the technologies inscribed there are based on already existing lore. The Storta in particular, if you give the infocard a quick read over, is powered by a singularity reactor which goes nova whenever it's turned off.

Humanity has also managed to create antimatter weaponry, notably in the form of Battle Razors, Mortars, SNACs, etc.

I don't know about dark matter, but maybe there's an explanation there as well. The Disco Freelancer universe is a science fiction nuthouse, honestly.

Why I've remember EvE online with Titans when only 1 pilot without crew? And this pilot is player.

RE: IRMM~ Maltese Military Research Institute - Groshyr - 09-07-2019

In EVE pilot isn't human more. You're playing cyborg, not human. Not the same, si?

Same coz in Disco u too can be cyborg.

RE: IRMM~ Maltese Military Research Institute - Groshyr - 09-07-2019

you still can cyber, no matter what you are playing

The first prototypes were powered by conventional fusion drives, but the production models incorporate a new advance courtesy of the researchers at Corsica's R and D Lab: An Artificial Quantum Singularity Drive.

Artificial Quantum Singularity Drive = Reactor with a small blackhole inside

Wikipedia on Quantum Singularity:
The term quantum singularity is used to refer to many different phenomena in fiction. They often only approximate a gravitational singularity in the scientific sense in that they are massive, localized distortions of space and time. The name invokes one of the most fundamental problems remaining in modern physics: the difficulty in uniting Einstein's theory of relativity, which includes singularities within its models of black holes, and quantum mechanics. In fact, since according to relativity, singularities, by definition, are infinitely small, and expected to be quantum mechanical by nature, a theory of quantum gravity would be required to describe their behaviour. No such theory has yet been formulated.[1]

Most likely based on this:
In the Star Trek Universe, the Romulan D'deridex-class warbird uses an artificial quantum singularity as a power source for its warp propulsion drive.

Thin air is what made many infocards in this game. Which is still a game that depicts Darkmatter in Munich as a Higgs field collapse (false vacuum) with its spreading speed lower than a rock roaming the space. As if you were watching a nuclear bomb in 300'000x slow motion that generates pudding instead of radioactivity. Science has proven that even today we can create particles with negative mass, which means that 800 years after settlement and inRP "Singularity Reactors" we (Maltese) should be more than ready to make this leap forward more than anyone else.

Thank you very much! And we can say that Storta's Infocard did it itself as most of our RP is based on an existing lore.
