Overview
"Outcast society has always been firmly rooted into their production of Cardamine. Before this however, the effects of the plants on humans weren’t fully known until those who had ventured beyond their little colony into the lands of the dead, returned with the knowledge.
A nameless figure known to the plantation owners of the northwest farms was rumored to be the first to know about the grasses impact on men. The mysterious figure claimed that angels from the sky took him and gave him visions of their home and their place in the universe. This material consumed him and for a time made him the subject of ridicule.
This man was also known as a stonemason and architect the same man responsible for the building of the obsidian pyramid in the North West plantations.
The stories of those who visited the pyramids found it to be a site, almost a shrine to Cardamine in its many forms as well as a strange blue glass sphere containing an odd liquid that for many years wasn’t known.
When the spirits arrived long after outcast scientists had confirmed everything the myths and legends of the pyramid cult, leaving them to their isolation, they resurged again this time taking to the stars and seeking to spread the influence of Cardamine and its many blessings.
The order of cultists did not identify themselves as such but proliferated Maltese culture in space, seeking to bring many others into the fold notable members of the cult show up in every major cardimine affiliated smuggling group and pirate clan in the past two hundred years.
Around 800 A.S. However there was an internal and political struggle that caused many of the philosophy held by the order to be challenged. Exarch Nysk became high mother and announced the forming of the children of the apocalypse. The long standing cultists rallied the Mar Sara about this “terrorist” group Nysk had begin to form and under duress and protest, each dissenting voice fell silent within the year by choosing to accept the change or leave.
As spirit activity plummeted in 801 a.s. The cult seemingly perished as well, seemingly tied to the events of that time and the internal issues they had yet their plantations continued to harvest and distribute along the routes they had for hundreds of years.
It wasn’t until recently around 816 a.s. The Census showed the cult itself stood at roughly 2400 members. Shortly after the cult began recruiting again and sending a new generation of Exarchs and Windcallers into space to solidify their Cardamine distribution as well as actively preaching to hopefuls and those already addicted to Cardamine. While preserving their silence towards the un addicted, or as the cult themselves refer to as “the unclean”.
The compliance of the spirits with the cult has more witnesses and proof recently as the Oracles and the Cult have merged. This happened shortly after the cults own flying temple. (Formerly a Prison liner that would mysteriously enter Malta space and offload the commodity “liquid Cardamine” and then return into the deep omicrons where the spirits reside.) Found its registry transferred onto the Maltese navy registrar as a Sarissa battleship.
This emphasis of force seems to be moving into an even greater show of forceful tactics. While the cult doesn’t brazenly declare their enemies publicly they do distribute their material (known as the book of Cataclysm) freely to most that ask for it. This lists in detail their goals, Activities, the reason for the reverence of the nomads or, to them “divine” and many other subjects."
Goals
While the cult’s primary concern is the proliferation of Cardamine through religion they do not stop at simply selling and bartering their export. Credits do grease the machine in the sector so actively protecting Cardamine transports not of their own farms is common as well. When the Home guard or other outcast military aren’t available to escort, the cult volunteers, GLADLY to protect their cousins that spread the sacred dust.
Also perfecting and making the most potent forms of Cardamine is a constant. While not the largest developer of Cardamine the Cults experimental fields on Sole dad that grow larger and juicer nectar making an odd Cardamine paste or pudding (which is more vegetable matter then the dna itself) but none the less has found itself to be a favorite accent to new Maltese cuisine.
The other more untold activities that have sparked some debate and some political conflict is the cults use and being publicly known (and woefully under reported) “legitimate” outlet of Liquid Cardamine.
This seems to be rooted in the activities of the children of the apocalypse and their “search” for certain people that display particular abilities and genetic mutations.
And finally, piracy will and can only be done against those parties supporting an active agenda against the nomads. ACTIVE as in recent events, recent hostilities, and recent initiatives to defile the inner sanctums of the divine.
Faction Specifics
The initiate and the trial of giving.
An initiate of the cult is charged with the quest of giving and is given the vow of purity.
Instructions are given to the initiate to not speak directly to the unclean but to seek those who will take the blessings of one unit of cult issued Cardamine and once done the initiate is allowed to speak to their “hopeful”. Once their lot of 5 units is up and each encounter is logged and journal for review the enclave of Exarchs and Wind-callers suggest further trial (if necessary) or simply induct the initiate as a complete member of the cult.
Cultists: Simple rules, Cultists protect Cardamine shipments and perform grunt tasks for a short time and while they are within the order are urged to learn and study during their time. They cannot speak to unclean and are given their own large supply of cult Cardamine for recruiting hopefuls as initiates or to circumvent the vow of purity (giving unclean Cardamine so they can speak to them) otherwise speech as an initiate or a cultist is improvised and NEVER in first person.
The taking of Cardamine has been known to enhance the creativity of initiates and cultists and often make up languages of gibberish, or poetic third person prose.
Wind-callers: The first administrative level of the cult. Wind callers primarily deal with the human side of the cult and instruct cultists on tasks and answer their questions, as they were cultists themselves long ago. They undergo the absolution of purity with a few tests and can speak to unclean however they wish to. Wind-callers are still however subservient to Exarchs.
Exarchs: The free agents of the cult can do as directed from on high and represent the full knowledge of the faith. The entire council of exarchs are responsible for the diplomacy and operations regarding the Cardamine trade within the organization and other initiative.

"With the increase of Maltese government attention the cult began to shift a majority of its membership to Omicron-81. Projects regarding the refinement and reproduction of highly specialized and purposed forms of Cardamine could continue without much hindrance.
The research and development of Liquid Cardamine and its uses for the betterment of the cult and the children of malta is also undertaken on this world."

"While the backwater nature of this planetoid station suits the Cults need for secrecy the bonds that formed between the pioneers of Omicron-81 and the Cult are strongest here. The Cult being one of Malta's oldest institutions (be it a quietly ignored one) was able to provide connections between the backwater station and home world.
Providing the workers with luxury goods from the cults trafficking of Cardamine as well as a large fleet of their private navy assist all the inhabitants with ease of transportation, supplies, and unquestioning support to those who live in Omicron-81 from this base in exchange for the sanctuary it offers by being out of the way."
