New York System

The New York system is the capital of Liberty space and one of the most traversed systems in all of the Sirius Sector. The system contains two settled planets (of which one has a uninhabited moon) and eleven bases. It also hosts five major corporations and four criminal organizations. There are Jump Gates and -Holes to five different systems, and the system orbits a single medium-sized white star. It is located near the center of Sirius and acts as a semi "crossroads" between the remaining lawful houses.

Areas of Interest

Detroit Debris Field

An industrial dumping ground left over from early expansion efforts, it is now frequented by Junkers and Rogues.

Jersey Debris Field

A floating junkyard, the byproduct of orbital development around Manhattan. Some criminal activity is present, chiefly drug runners and smugglers, along with itinerant Junkers who comb the field looking for scrap and parts.

Pittsburgh Debris Field

A cloud of abandoned ships, parts, and other scrap pulled into Pittsburgh's gravity well from the Baltimore Shipyard over the centuries. The Pittsburgh Debris Field is frequently used as cover by Rogues who like to attack traffic in and out of Pittsburgh. The moon "Maine" is also located in the debris field.

Zone 21

Officially a classified Liberty Navy testing site. All information concerning Zone 21 is top-secret and the area is protected by a minefield to prevent trespassing. Any unauthorized ships attempting to breach the Zone 21 minefield or enter Zone 21 itself will be terminated without exception or exemption.

The Badlands

"The Badlands" is the nickname for a particulate cloud filled with asteroids and subject to intense electrical activity that renders most scanners inoperable. Two government research stations, Bedford and Ithaca, were constructed here to study these unique environmental phenomena. However, the Badlands also provide a natural refuge for all types of criminal elements. The Battleship Missouri has since been deployed to protect Liberty interests in the area and deter pirate attacks against nearby Trade Lanes.

Pennsylvania Jump Gate

Originally a Jump Gate connecting the New York system to the Magellan system, this gate was deemed to unstable by Ageria and abandoned soon afterwords. In early 817 A.S., it was towed to it's current location by the wreck of Ithaca Station, where it was repaired and re-routed so it would end in the Pennsylvania system, which until recently had been mostly ignored by the Liberty government.

Notable events

The Manhattan Protest March

Often cited by critics of the Libertonian police and Navy, the Manhattan Protest March was a demonstration against Libertonian police brutality and fascism under the lead of Simon Reynolds. A convoy of civilians in trading vessels gathered in the nearby Connecticut System, their shields and weapons deactivated and stored on New Haven as a sign of their peaceful intentions, and began heading towards Manhattan, where they intended to block access to Manhattan's docking rings. Shortly after their arrival in the ecumenopolis's orbit however, they were halted by Liberty Navy officers, who accused Reynolds of being a traitor and everyone following him a criminal. When the Navy consecutively opened fire upon the protesters, at least 6 civilian vessels were confirmed to have been shot down; Simon Reynolds is believed to be still alive, and Samantha Fisher, his former first officer, is now wanted by the Libertonian government (which went as far as setting a bounty on her head) as they think she may possess knowledge regarding his current location.
