Borneo Mining Syndicate

ID: IMG - IFF: IMG - TAG: BMS|

BMS is a syndicate based on Borneo, Tau-44 with joint commercial and security interests of former IMG, Colonial civilians and military personnel. Believing the best way to survive and prosper in Taus is a unification of the Independent Miners Guild and the Colonial Republic with minimal political interference, the Syndicate focuses on resource extraction, shipbuilding, industry and transportation of goods. BMS sees slavery and Cardamine as threats to a stable Tau region and is engaged in conflicts with Outcasts and their allies.

Background

In the history of both the Independent Miners Guild and the Colonial Republic, there has been the topic of unification under a single entity multiple times as a long-term goal as both groups would improve their relations further. Within the harsh political and territorial climate of the Tau region, miners of the Guild and citizens of the Republic prospered mutually for longer than a decade. Younger generations even had families on one side while they affiliated themselves with the other.

Everything changed when a splinter faction among the Republic, used their positions to wage war on the Guild at 826 AS. Blinded by anti-Gallic fanaticism, Republic's flagship at the time, Olympia has been lost on Coronado and reappeared on Omega 3 with supporting elements, its mission was to keeping Bretonia in the fight against Gallia, at cost of the miners. The rogue battlegroup pushed towards Aland Shipyard, this caused several entities within both the Guild and the Republic to be angered and raise criticism for different reasons, however, both groups chose to oppressively silence such deviant voices.

As IMG-CR relations severed further with conflicts started by Colonial rogue elements carried on, pro-unificationists laid low and kept casualties to a minimum where conflict was inevitable. Several defections took place since the Aland crisis yet an organized movement was not even in talks. This status quo was maintained for one year, however, with the end of the Gallic war, regional powers shifted heavily. Gallia was split into two major factions and was no longer the dominating power within Taus. An opportunist and renewed Kusari took advantage of this and first stroke Colonials in Tau 31 and then launched a blitz into Gallia.

While Independent Miners Guild carried their business, as usual, The Outcasts have seen the Colonials' weakness and launched a full offensive into Tau 44. Having a critical asset in Tau 44 has pushed the Guild to fight side by side with Colonials once more against the Outcast menace. Despite the ruling bodies' cold relations within both the Guild and the Republic, some of the guild members and military circles still carried the desire for unification. With the fight against Outcasts once again giving a necessity to work together, a unificationist group, emerged out of commercial interests, the security of Taus and a desire to cast away former organizations' byzantine politics, named Borneo Mining Syndicate was formed. Albeit relatively small in influence and people, they have an easier time when it comes to assets as some higher-ranked Colonial military officials and their crews joined the Syndicate's cause, combined with the resourcefulness and flexibility of Independent Miners.
