Well... I was really bored, so I decided to remake this station (don't ask why this one in particular, there's no specific reason), so here is what I made. So... I'm all yours for feedback or critics. I have no plans of submitting it, at least not yet.

Station's infocard states that Ames was originally constructed by DSE, so there's no need for design all other freeports have.

First two domes, up there, are should be used for living section, recreation and stuff like that, and those four down, should be labs, testing area and stuff like that, after all, it's research station.

3 Zoner gunboats in some kind of formation in small ship building area. After all, Ames is selling zonnie gunboat.

And... That would be all. Notice 2 Zoner Whales 'docked' to right part of station.

Well, that looks good. Maybe it's just because I like domes. But as for the whales... I think they'd better be docked a bit lower, near the ship building area. After all, the elevators are connecting the ship-building area and the right dome, am I right? That means that some additional space would be needed near the elevators' entrances. Maybe some detail added to that spot, or the Wales moved somewhere, I don't know. But as for the rest, it seems good.

That's... amazing.

I love it. I think it'd make a great last-minute addition to 4.86, along with anything else you can come up with. Maybe some new freeports? The current ones are kinda... bland. Not something you'd think of "those crazy zoners", as Cannon puts it, would think of building.
My only concern is... is it really neccessary to have a ship building module on a station that size for building a Gunboat?

It seems a bit excessive... those things are more for constructing Crusiers and Battleships.
I like it; though I think you should remove the ship yard section and replace it with depots, solar panels, or another 'lab' set up like the other side.

Sure, the gun boats are sold there, but they are built at Livadia. Same as the Aquilon and Whale that are sold in Baffin.

As another has said, I'd love to see you tinker with other Freeports (Ames seems to be number 3). Some of them havne't evolved over the years, which is rather strange if you think about it.
I agree with the above said, it looks awesome, those shipyard sections are a little too much though. Apart from this, I really like it, definatly better than the current model.

Replace the shipyard parts, and it's perfect. Really nice work.

Solar panels are useless in a system with no sun.
Looks fine, however - why'd Ames need shipyard there? And would Liberty / Kusari allow it?

Ok. Soo....Zoners keep getting neat things. Which is cool, give the zoners neat things. Fine.

But, er, lets not retcon Ames?

Perhaps we can look at it as it is, a very old, long abandoned Liberty research post re-pressurized by the Zoners, not a starport or a construction yard, and not particularly close to anything that makes the system worthwhile.

You've changed it from what it is, a sparsely populated point of light in the middle of the long dark, into something that looks like a bustling spaceport, a thriving place...dead center in the middle of the antimatter cloud.

Furthermore, you've constructed it with the common mistake of Freelancer station design, whereby you assume that because you're in space, there are no forces, when you've likely got a rotating station, as even with the existence of antigrav and whomever, that would still be the easiest way to maintain a semblance of gravity. The extreme length of those pylons draws into doubt the structural integrity. This is not starcraft, you do not need more pylons.

And, finally, why should there be an Ames mk2? What possible goal...
