Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Laviolette - 03-23-2019 Hello there strangers and future friends, I am Laviolette, long time Freelancer, recently found my old disc in the bottom of a box after moving apartments and plugged the game back in. It's still great! So a couple of evenings later, Ive beat the story again and got an itch to hop online and see who's playing. Turns out it's kinda just you folks. So I figured I'd come meet you all and get to know a few of you before I download the mod and jump on the server. How is everyone today? RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Sombs - 03-23-2019 Welcome to Discovery! You're joining at a great time right now, as you can witness Bretonia losing the war with Gallia and taking every previous ally with them! RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Altejago - 03-23-2019 Welcome, I'm well thank you. Resist Sombra's propaganda for a defeated Bretonia. Stay true to the core and fight off those Gaulish fiends! You'll find a lot of helpful people here, and don't be too put off by one or two things that don't work for you. Keeping trying and don't settle for just one. RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Enkidu - 03-23-2019 Hello! Welcome to the best space combat trading realtime roleplay multiplayer server in the world! Discovery is a wonderful community with player-run consequences and developments that impact the wider world of the discovery mod. Currently the game takes place twenty six years after the events of vanilla (or 10 years + real time since the events of Vanilla, if you factor Vanilla's 2003 release date). Please look at the server rules and don't be afraid to PM members to try to figure out what is going on. I'm available on discord (Riehl#0002) or on the forums if there's anything you'd like to know. This is a wonderful, active roleplay community, despite all the time that has gone past since the game's initial release. RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Laviolette - 03-23-2019 So I'm getting the impression that there's a good chunk of server lore I'm gonna need to catch up on! ∑(O_O Is there a convenient, one stop shop/wiki where I can do that? I don't wanna be bugging people every five minutes asking what's going on and why. (*μ_μ) RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Champ - 03-23-2019 Hi hi! Welcome! You're coming into a whole other world of role play, lore and good stuff. And sleepy! You? Type Discovery Freelancer Wiki into Google and you should be able to find it. Be warned, some of the content is out of date. The TL-DR is that a huge amount has changed. The Nomad war broke the effective status-quo of peace in the colonies by raising cultural and institutional rivalries between houses. Bretonia and Kusari increasingly bumped heads over control of the taus, leading to a state of war that lead to a Kusarian invasion of leeds. Meanwhile, a pre-Sirian Alliance Colonial project to the Halcyon Sector encountered a natural catastrophe that lead them to abandon their colonies for Sirius. These citizens became known as the Crayter Republic, as they settled in the Taus. The Rheinland revolutions of the Unioners, Hessians, Bundschuh, and LWB have fractured due to ideological stresses, with the LWB being completely destroyed by those strains. Liberty and Rheinland had a 6 (real world) year war over the remains of Nomad technology left over from the Nomad war in the vanilla campaign. Liberty won the war strategically, but decided to declare peace due to threats in the tau systems. Rheinland has recently declared war against the GMG, which unexpectedly magnified into full-scale war against Kusari, in a repeat of the eighty years war. This time, Rheinland is on the offensive. The nomads are back and are manipulating Sirius. They are split into two distinct subspecies - the nomads that stayed in Sirius after Trent activated the Dyson Sphere, and those that were pulled through the Dyson Sphere into other parts of the universe (called the Nomad Vagrants). Nomad infected, like Tekagi, are called 'The Wild'. Kusari has had a civil war, where the Emperor (Jien Kogen) from vanilla was ousted, then died in exile. One of his nephews has returned to Kusari after a brief civil war against Kusari's newly created liberal parliment, creating a constitutional monarchy. A mixture between bounty hunters guild interests, Corporations, and houses looking to exploit Edge World resources has created a megacorporation called the Core. The antithesis of the Order, they actively exploit nomad technology and sell it to the Houses. They are the enemies of the Order, who are still considered terrorists due to the houses hiding from the public the true nature of the nomad war to prevent internal collapse. Toledo was destroyed approximately seven years ago by a massive Nomad Fleet. The Order have relocated to the system of Omicron Mu. Omicron minor remains a burning gravestone. The most dramatic development is the emergence of an entirely new house. Named Gallia, existing beyond the Barrier ice cloud and settled by Colonists from the Alliance Republic of France, Gallia is a monarchy run in an entirely separate sector to Sirius. Gallia believes that Coalition sabotage of the Gallia colony ship (that was originally meant to travel to Sirius along with the Rheinland, Liberty. HIspania, Kusaria, and Liberty), was deliberately masterminded by Bretonia and Liberty to prevent competition for resources. Gallia plotted a 500-year-long revenge stratagem against the rest of Sirian space. Wracked by two civil wars, first by the Seperatists from the outer-systems Normandie colonies of Bretagne, Caen and Cotentin, and then later on by the pro-democracy Councilard rebellion, the existence of Gallia was prematurely revealed to the rest of Sirius. It's believed that the mysterious source of the Junkers is in fact from Gallia. Intelligence agencies are increasingly powerful. There is an increasing pro-Imperial sentiment in Rheinland, as the Republic is increasingly seen as corrupt. A return to the Rheinland empire of old has been strongly encouraged. Artifacts and alien ruins are all over the place, from Bretonia, to Rheinland, to the outer systems. Bretonia is engaged in a battle for survival against Gallia. Half of bretonia - and even half of New London, is occupied by the gallic aggressors. Mysterious entities, unknown systems that are only temporarily available, rare equipment and specialised commodities exist in the game. Players can build their own space stations for their factions. Roleplay factions can change the fate of the mod, even up to its development. Factions from Sol, such as the Coalition, exist within the mod. As for gameplay features: Flyable capital ships! Balanced mining! Balanced combat mechanics! Flyable Liners and large transports! Trade-lane piracy! Some planets have flyable planetary atmospheres! Gigantic alien structures you can fly your ship into! Massive fleet battles at specific events! Player-verses-NPC battles! Story-driven factions! Clans that have solid grounding in the roleplay Universe! Over thirty new star systems (originally over 70+ but cut down for suitability). Unique models, weapons, equipment! A community driven development, event, and content team! New Star Systems! New Model Animations! Updated textures and system backgrounds! The AIs of Gammu in Omicron Kappa, once an easter-egg, are now a fleshed-out alien race with individualistic ships, technology, etc. RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - xiphos - 03-23-2019 (03-23-2019, 01:26 AM)Laviolette Wrote: So I'm getting the impression that there's a good chunk of server lore I'm gonna need to catch up on! ∑(O_O Disco Wiki Most interesting link for a new player who wants to have a quick overviewe about what is/was going on in Sirius is probably this one: Disco Timeline Other interesting links for starters A very simple yet usefull Restart guide Wiki Mining guide or Forum Mining Guide. Just a matter of layout taste which one you want to use. Both are almost the same. Server commands Currently the Wiki is in a good shape but not always 100% accurate or up to date. NPC Faction pages and the lore of the factions are mostly out of date. You can always go here to get an overview whats up to date and what is not: Wiki update status. If you have any question regarding the Wiki, feel free to PM me. For shipstats and other stats you are better of with DSCore Another very useful tool are the Navmap and the Mactan network ship tech compatibility viewer RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Laviolette - 03-25-2019 Oooft! That's a lot to catch up on (・_・ I guess I'll just get downloading the mod and I'll jump in on Tuesday, when I have the day off, and try to figure out my place in the galaxy from there. Thanks for the wiki links, guys! I'll definitely be cramming as much of that into my brain as I can, whew RE: Hello there, fellow star-sailors! - Cælumaresh - 03-25-2019 Welcome to Disco.
