Nebulae

Aveyron Nebula

The Aveyron nebula is a mid-sized dust cloud at the edge of the Languedoc system, hypothesized to be a remnant of the system's protoplanetary disk. The cloud, comprised primarily of elemental hydrogen and micrometer sized silicate dust also contains heavier elements such as iron and molybdenum, which have coalesced to form mid-sized rocks over the millenia. Though the nebula's visibility is notoriously poor and the cloud is frequented by Maquis and Brigand raiders, advanced sensor technology obtained from Kishiro prior to the collapse of the Kusari Republic has led to inevitable corporate exploition by GMS of the precious molybdenum deposits within.

Guarding the Jump Gate that leads to the Taus, this minefield was hastily deployed by the Gallic Union as a deterrent to any would-be invader.

Although the use has been called into question, especially by veterans of the Second Gallic War, the government of the Union has refused to seek different approaches to combat a possible attack by foreign navies in the Languedoc system. Its effectiveness remains to be seen in the years to come.

These characteristic red nebulae, do not only contain gravitational anomalies, but also dangerous asteroid fields. The impaired visibility and inconsistently mapped obstacles put many seasoned pilot's skills to the test and even cost some less experienced pilot's their ships.

What made the matter even more urgent, is that recently there were quite a few incidents, where workers dumping scrap on behalf of companies, were threatened to be held accountable. Workers unions already announced strikes in solidarity work their fellow workers for this perceived injustice.
