The Charlemagne battleships were designed around 676 AGS (760 AS), specifically for defensive and support purposes. Battleships of this class were configured to hold and maintain large numbers of fighters and cover them with powerful point defense turrets. The La Fierte was deployed from Rambouillet Shipyard in 697 AGS (781 AS), serving unremarkably until it was assigned to the Marne Pacification Fleet in 712 AGS (796 AS). One of several Council infiltrated warships, the La Fierte defected upon entering Marne orbit, initiating the Battle of Champagne and contributing to the Council's liberation of the system. Due to their dramatic sorties against royal assaults, the Le Fierte's strike wings quickly became the pride of Marne.
The Invasion of Sirius lessened the GRN's focus on Champagne, allowing the La Fierte to strike into Picardy in the hope of inciting unrest on Planet Amiens. When news of war crimes and military collapse trickled back to the core systems in 742 AGS (826 AS), the Le Fierte launched a renewed attack on Amiens. The Battleship Samur immediately surrendered, while Le Fierte's fighters supported revolts across the planet in toppling the leaderless Royal Army regiments. Having secured Picardy for the Gallic Republic, the battleship pushed into to Ile-de-France to support the planned Council assault on New Paris. In the uncomfortable peace following the emergence of the Gallic Confederacy, the La Fierte returned to Picardy to suppress Enclave holdouts.
Following much needed repairs and maintenance, the battleship was assigned to Zurich to oversee the completion of the trade corridor connecting to Rheinland. Within days of the Alsace Passage's opening in 743 AGS (827 AS), Rheinland devolved into civil war. The Confederacy reeled with shock as the Red Hessians conquered Cologne and the Federalist battleship Karlsruhe fled into Gallic territory. Fearing an incident that would drag them into the conflict, the La Fierte was ordered to intern the battleship. While negotiating the Karlsruhe's surrender, Captain Michaud instead agreed to provide supplies for an assault on Cologne, intending to dislodge the Red Hessians and re-open trade.
When the Karlsruhe eventually departed, it slipped through Cologne and instead invaded Stuttgart. Outraged, the Confederal Navy would have court martialled Captain Michaud for insubordination, were it not for the Kusari Invasion of Gallia. The La Fierte was rushed to Languedoc to support the collapsing Minarchy positions, arriving to reinforce the Confederal lines during the Battle of Agde. The La Fierte's strike wings performed according to the mythos they had developed during the Second Gallic Civil War, punching the holes in the Battleship Yamaguchi's escorts that the Embrun later exploited. The La Fierte's valiant but fatal last stand brought time for the joint Confederal-Enclave counter assault that ended Kusari's advance towards Ile-de-France.
