Gunboats are all-rounder ships whose role depends largely on loadout, though their roles may vary from convoy escort and anti-fighter to piracy and capital ship harassment. They are less maneuverable than snubcraft and freighters, but more so than transports and capital ships, and are generally medium-sized ships overall.
There is no special distinction between "gunboat" and "gunship".
