Planet Tangier is a cold, rocky world that follows a distant orbit through the remote reaches of Omega-47. Volcanoes and earthquakes wrack the surface, unleashing rivers of magma and plumes of ash and noxious gasses that cast a permanent volcanic winter. Upon its discovery in 647 AS, Tangier was described by Corsair explorer Carlos Fuentes as, "a hell by which Crete can be called paradise." As a result, the planet was largely ignored until 810 AS, when engineers from the newly built Casablanca Base first established camps to survey for minerals. They discovered rich seams of metals, churned near to the surface by countless millennia of violent volcanism.

Before a mining colony could be established, the Red Hessians launched the Casablanca Offensive of 811 AS. The Hessians were quick to capitalize on the Corsairs' groundwork, developing the abandoned camps into a series of prisoner-operated mining colonies. By 813 AS, the penal workforce was bolstered with internal dissidents from the newly-allied Coalition, while Viernheim Station refinery was built three years later as a joint endeavour. The Coalition's deployment of an Electromagnetic Tether in 824 AS reduced the launch costs for atmospheric shuttles, further increasing the export of metals. Across this period, the Hessians came under increasing pressure in Omega-5, straining their commitment to Omega-47's defense.

This came to a head in 827 AS, when the Hessians withdrew the Battleship Kassel to exploit the raging civil war in Rheinland. The Corsairs quickly took advantage of this lapse with the Battleship Fes, destroying Viernheim and bombarding Tangier's mines. The assault was only driven off through the intervention of the Coalition Carrier Alvin Katz, which was critically damaged in the battle. With the Hessians unwilling to commit the resources needed to rebuild and defend Tangier, it was mutually agreed that its administration would fall instead to The Coalition. They have since repaired and expanded many of the penal colonies, however persistent Corsair raids from Omega-5, Omega-55 and the recaptured Casablanca Base impose a harsh cost.

[835 AS] Bloody Skirmish in Omega-47

OMEGA-47 -- 835 -- Numerous pilots have reported a significant skirmish in Omega-47 last week. The clash took place north of the system's central star, between the Corsairs and a combined Hessian-Coalition force. The confrontation inflicted heavy losses on all sides, leaving no faction satisfied with the outcome. This marks yet another bloody chapter in the relentless struggle for dominance in the Omegas between the Corsairs and the Red Alliance. Both sides hope controlling Omega-47 will open the flanks of Omega-5, securing a final decisive victory.

[835 AS] Junker Convoy Attacked by Rheinlanders?

BORNHOLM -- 835 -- Junkers on Bornholm Station in Omega-55 have reported unusual instances of Rheinland vessels attacking their convoys. The attacks have been so devastating that no ship has survived to recount the events firsthand. The only evidence the Junkers possess are intercepted radio signals emitted shortly before the convoys were presumably destroyed or captured. An official complaint has been filed with the Rheinland government, but there has yet to be an official response.

[835 AS] Coalition force scores mighty victory in Dublin

DUBLIN -- 835 -- Dublin’s Powrie Brigade, led by Coalition commanders, has scored a mighty victory against the Bretonian imperialist invaders. Single-handedly holding back the royalist tide, Coalition forces destroyed the Battlecruisers Adlington and Bracknell, throwing the Bretonian offensive into disarray. The Mollys have expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the Coalition people for saving their Republic, comparing it to our liberation of Omega-49 through the vanquishing of the Battleship Stirling. Senior commanders have confirmed that the Mollys are now sufficiently secured to see to their own defense, allowing the Coalition to focus on suppressing Omega threats.

[835 AS] Invaders breach Dublin

ARRANMORE -- 835 -- In a grim day for the Republic, Bretonia has avoided the Achill minefields and deployed forces directly into Dublin. Seeming to use an artificially created Jump Hole, scouts report the Battleship Somerset is acting as some sort of anchor. Bretonian cruiser formations have immediately begun to push towards the Achill and Founders Fields to cut our supplies and force a fight in open space. A coordinated defense will be complicated by the continued Corsair occupation of the Hood Field, which limits our ability to launch ambushes from that direction. Arranmore’s Brigades are being deployed to block Bretonian advances, while Hellburner assets are moved into position.

[834 AS] Supreme Council deploys transport fleet

VOLGOGRAD -- 834 -- The Supreme Council has ordered the Armies of the Revolution to deploy to Dublin. Following the discovery of a new Jump Hole in Omega-49, the Mollys have requested aid. The Supreme Council selflessly answered this plea, pledging to support the war effort against Bretonian imperialism with both resolute military force and bottomless materiel resupply. The Mollys have gifted a sizable and ongoing supply of Gold in fraternal recognition of the Coalition people’s friendship. Following the loss of the CPS Denebola to the capricious Dublin Jump Hole, the People’s Army have been ordered to limit shipments to freighters with the performance characteristics to defeat the gravitational eddies.

[832 AS] War Returns to Omicron Theta!

FREEPORT 9 -- 832 AS -- Omicron Theta was the site of clashes between the Outcasts and Corsairs for many years, with the Zoners of Freeport 9 surviving in the middle of this uneasy equilibrium. Everything would change late last year when the Outcasts withdrew from the system, and the Corsairs boarded and occupied Freeport 9. Now, the Outcasts have returned in force and the fighting is fiercer than ever as they look to win back lost ground; early clashes saw the loss of the Corsair Battleship Fes and Outcast Destroyer Bella. The Outcasts have been open about their intent to destroy Freeport 9 so long as it remains in Corsair hands, to the dismay of the expelled Zoners who hope to regain the station through diplomatic means. The Core have also been spotted operating in the system, intervening to precisely strike valuable targets and seemingly prevent either side from gaining a decisive edge. Extreme caution is recommended when travelling through the region.

[831 AS] Corsairs Pillage Freeport 9!

CORFU -- 831 AS -- The Corsair occupation of Freeport 9 has sent shockwaves through the Zoner community. The Corsairs had accused the station of allowing their enemies to launch raids into Omicron Gamma, with violent rhetoric escalating after the death of an Elder's son.

As Crete demanded the Zoners of Theta turn over any Hunters aboard their stations and surrender docking control, the Freeport 9 administrators were confident that some kind of compromise could be found. A delegation from Gran Canaria was requested to assist with negotiations, due to the close ties between Zoner and Corsair communities on the planet.

Tragically, the Corsairs interpreted this delay as refusal, and launched a surprise attack while the delegation was en-route. Many of Freeport 9's crew are now being held as hostages while the Corsairs pillage the station. An urgent conclave has been called on Gran Canaria to discuss the Zoner response, while militias on Pygar have taken up arms in case the violence spreads.

[831 AS] Jump Hole Upheaval Causes Chaos

HEISENBERG -- 831 AS -- Jump holes across Sirius have become increasingly volatile and chaotic over the last year, with Professor Sophia Nagel from the Heisenberg Research Station linking the unusual phenomena to the Pulse. The Pulse was an unprecedented blast of hyperspace energy that was detected immediately prior to last year's Jump Gate Blackout.

Professor Nagel and her team are certain the Pulse originated from outside Sirius, but are otherwise no closer to identifying its source or mitigating a future Blackout event. "Following the Blackout, we began to see immediate signs of jump hole destabilization in multiple different regions, with many ultimately falling out of phase alignment altogether", she commented. The dramatic upending of Sirius' jump hole network has already prompted many groups to abandon stations and withdraw from systems that appear to risk being cut off.

While months-long trips between the stars are possible thanks to the Liberty Engine and many centuries of innovation, few ships are designed or provisioned to make such arduous journeys. Those who were displaced by Sirius' redrawn map hope that system connections will return, while adventurers and explorers rush to discover new routes.

[830 AS] Tempers Flare over Pygar Colony!

PYGAR -- 830 AS -- The Bretonian occupation of Gran Canaria forced many Zoners off-world, with some braving the deadly storms of Pygar to eke out a difficult existence under the barren planet's surface. This has not met with warmth by the Corsairs, who see Pygar as a competitor for scarce resources. Elder Garcia warned that there would be "dire consequences" if Freeport 9's biodomes diverted exports from Planet Crete. Whispers of alien ruins below Pygar's surface further antagonized the Corsairs, who fiercely enforce control of the Artifact trade. Pygar's extreme conditions and the tense relationship with the Corsairs has already led many colonists to return to the now liberated Gran Canaria.

[826 AS] Justice on two fronts

HAMBURG -- 826 -- The Unioners have long been suspected of treachery, however it was only recently that fate delivered an influential Unioner Artifact smuggler into Hessian hands. Cracking under persuasive interrogation, the pilot spilled dirty secrets about cooperation with the Corsairs. Fortuitously, The Unioners have approached us with a plan to seize Vierlande Prison, and have asked for our assistance in persuading the Coalition to contribute. Little do they know they have sprung the perfect trap for themselves. We shall wait for the collaborators to exhaust themselves in the battle, then take our revenge on the Undine and Wedel Station.

[825 AS] Ronneburg reports Omega-5 situation "critical"

RONNEBURG -- 825 -- Hessian commanders in Omega-5 have reported the heaviest losses in decades, amid a severe supply crunch. Vital material from Dresden has been disrupted by recent combat operations, and the loss of Omega-11 supply routes to solar storms. As a result, Hessian fighters are suffering from munitions shortages and must ration the use of missiles, mines and weapons platforms. Now Dresden has been fully secured, it is hoped this will allow for material production to be significantly ramped up in the coming months. The Corsairs have sensed this narrow window of opportunity and are pushing us hard. In the meantime, The Coalition have committed its own reserves and industrial support to staunch the bleeding.

[822 AS] Freital lost to solar storms

FREITAL BASE -- 822 -- Omega-11's star has continued to grow more and more violent - we have lost almost a dozen ships trying to cross the system in recent weeks. Of even greater concern, the vicious solar storms have begun to impact local Jump Holes. The connection to Omega-5 recently fell out of phase alignment for nearly 16 hours, while the Dresden Jump Hole also shows signs of instability. Daumann has already fled, abandoning Solaris Station and ending local Diamond mining. As a result, commanders have issued the order to withdraw until conditions improve. Our supply chains between Dresden and Omega-5 are being urgently rerouted to compensate.

[803 AS] Rheinland deserters ravage Omegas

FREEPORT 5 -- 803 -- There is a new menace prowling the Omegas, killing without remorse or restraint. Rheinland Colony War defectors have been sighted indiscriminately attacking trade ships in Omega-5 and 41. These Rheinland marauders are known by the Hessians as the “Wild Hunt”, for the way they appear using cloaking devices, kill or kidnap pilots, and vanish as quickly as they arrived. No Wild ship has ever responded to hails or expressed a motive, nor has there ever been a ransom demand for those taken. If you come across a Wild ship, we recommend you dump your cargo to shed weight, and run as fast as you can.

Rumors

Red Hessians
  • I'm about to go fly wingman for a Coalition patrol headed into the eastern Walker nebula. Joint patrols are uncommon, but we're after a particular Corsair that's been giving our suppliers a lot of trouble recently. Everyone with a stake in Tangier has a claim on his head, so we'll take him out together.

  • The volcanic eruptions here are a sight to behold. This outpost is far enough away to be safe, but you can see the eruptions to the south. Sometimes they go on for days. That's where the richest mineral deposits are, too; I don't envy the Coalition colonists that trek out there for the mining operations.

  • It's been several years since we lost Viernheim up in orbit. I still remember the day with shame. But the Coalition have made good use of this place, and they even share its bounty with us. Together we'll push back the Corsair barbarians and show everyone once and for all who really owns the Walker.

Sirius Coalition
  • I'm waiting for the dockworkers to load my Dromedary with aluminum. Once they're done, it's all the way back home to Dresden, where it'll be refined into valuable alloys.

  • A month ago we had a Freelancer visitor running away from the Corsairs. Apparently he assassinated the Corsair in his sleep. He fled to Tangier, thinking we'd save him. He's part of the volcanoes now.

  • You didn't hear this from me; I think what we're doing here is a giant waste of resources. Sure, colonizing a planet sounds great and all, but it's not like we don't already have one in Omega-52. The costs of upkeep are taking a serious toll on us. If it were up to me I'd establish a small outpost in the orbit, and focus our funds elsewhere, such as Omega-5. I heard it's pretty rough for the Hessians there currently.

Independent Miners Guild
  • The Coalition commissars are strict with their own men, and keep a close eye on the few foreigners that pass through. They mostly leave us alone though, probably because we couldn't pose much of a threat to them even if we wanted to.

  • The lads back at Madeira haven't found much silver or copper in this region of the Walker. Some of them have turned to buying slog -- or "carix", I guess -- from the Mollys who produce the stuff. Only a few Guildsmembers partake; most of what they buy gets smuggled into Rheinland. I don't feel so good about sellin' the shite to people down on their luck, I've heard nasty rumors about what it does. But the money's really good, and the Mollys are our friends. God knows they need the support right now.

  • I came here as part of Alistair's crew from Pecos. I don't give a damn what he says, I miss the snow and ice. Thank god this coat is fire-retardant.

  • The Hessians are an extremely militarized organization, especially on the Omega front. The Hammen Hole is no joke. But these Coalition guys take it to another level entirely. I wouldn't mess with them if I were you.

  • I used to work for Kruger in Sigma-15. It's a hell of a change of pace, but Tangier isn't so bad. The volcanoes are absolutely beautiful - it's like the planet itself is happily offering its riches up to us with every eruption. The Hessians are a rough crowd, but with them and the Coalition keeping us safe, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be working. It's good to be free.
