Shinkaku Station was built in 602 AS to provide Kusari corporate giant Samura access to the abundant ammonia, water, and "dirty" ice fields present in the system. From these raw materials, Shinkaku produces the valuable Hydrocarbons and HydroGro Fertilizers that Samura needs to remain competitive with Liberty food giant Synth Foods. However, the frequent attacks on Samura operations throughout the system by the Outcasts have made extra security a necessary measure.

[834 AS] Cryer Delegation Arrives at Harris

PLANET HARRIS -- 834 -- Cryer Pharmaceuticals location scouts have arrived on Planet Harris, amid speculation the medical giant will establish a facility on the remote planet. With the destruction of Atka Research Station, Cryer lost the primary production facility for their flagship drug -- Stabiline. Harris is believed to be a front-runner candidate for a replacement lab due to its strategic location in the Tau Border Worlds, BAF security perimeter, and option to tap into local supply lines. Liberty is believed to have provided significant diplomatic backing for Cryer's proposal, which is demanding complete legal autonomy for the site. Bretonian officials have declined to comment on the proceedings.

[834 AS] Kusari minister cancels ALG contract

NEW TOKYO -- 833 -- Shortly before the execution of the Roppongi cleanup contract between ALG and the Kusari government, the Minister of Industry and Development personally intervened to void his department’s negotiations. Citing "security concerns and political unreliability", the Minister disqualified ALG from further involvement. The contract was then awarded directly without tender to Samura Heavy Industries. ALG has condemned the move as “the lowest and most despicable of state corruption”, and threatened to take immediate legal action to protect their investments and reputation. Samura has pledged prompt action to make New Tokyo’s orbit safe -- despite the Keiretsu having no experience in this field of work.

[831 AS/747 AGS] Gate Corps Clash Over 'Blackout'!

ABBEVILLE -- 831 AS/747 AGS -- EFL's 'Resilience Taskforce' today reported its findings on The Blackout, claiming to have gathered forensic evidence that proved the cause as Ageira negligence. A spokesperson claimed that the destruction of the Dublin jump gate by Molly separatists had created a hyperspace feedback loop that was propagated and amplified through the Ageira gate network.

Ageira disputed this finding in their own press release, calling EFL 'fantasists' and countering that their own scientists had narrowed the cause to a rare 'hypernova' stellar event that originated outside the Sirius sector. Both corporations claim that network-wide hardware safeguards have been implemented that would prevent a similar occurrence in the future. Independent researchers have sharply criticized the corporate announcements, accusing both of self-interested misdirection.

Professor Sophia Nagel from Heisenberg Research Station called EFL's accusation 'incoherent' and the hypernova explanation 'nonsense' that did not explain the characteristics of the 'Blackout Pulse'. Despite multiple different Pulse recordings being widely disseminated across the neural net, public efforts have so far failed to triangulate its source.

[831 AS/747 AGS] 'Blackout' Causes Jump Network Fail

MANHATTAN -- 831 AS/747 AGS -- Two days ago Jump Gates failed simultaneously across Sirius, freezing commerce and neural net access across the sector. When the network resumed 31 hours later, restored communications broke the news of Bretonia's loss of the Dublin system. This twin shock has plunged the market into chaos, prompting fears of sector-wide economic recessions. Interspace estimates indicate that the stoppage alone caused billions of credits in losses. Gallia immediately accused Liberty of culpability for the outage, claiming the destruction of Dublin's jump gate instigated a cascading failure in faulty Ageira infrastructure. Ageira has sharply refuted the allegation, claiming such a systemic effect would be physically impossible. Independent researchers in Cologne and the Edge Worlds have also announced that a hyperspace pulse of unprecedented strength was detected moments before The Blackout, with data about 'The Pulse' being widely shared across the neural net in recent days. House authorities have remained tight lipped, refusing to comment on their own observatories' data.

[829 AS] Tau In Transition

Freeport 6 -- 829 AS -- Bretonia and Kusari have been quiet in recent weeks as the Tau cluster continues adjustments, partly by design, into a new reality. Kusari has abandoned Tau-53 completely as trade with Gallia is frozen indefinitely, a nearly depleted hydrocarbon deposit seemingly not worth the investment in itself. Misaki Station has seen its manufacturing facilities detached and towed to a new location as Samura attempts to recoup some of its investment in Tau-53. Meanwhile, both Gallia and Bretonia have readjusted their Tau focus to Tau-23 as Orkney descends into chaos. Existing gate infrastructure in Tau-31 and Languedoc have been redirected to Tau-23, and a collective deja vu is felt among Tau denizens and observers from all Houses as the resources of Tau-23 are eyed by competing mining interests. Trade between the houses however, as in Kusari, is completely off the menu. Independent trade factions have also been warned against attempting to cross the divide.

[828 AS] Tau Turbulence

FREEPORT 6 -- 828 AS -- After decades of constant warfare and shifts in dominance - the balance of power within the Tau sector has once again been reset. With the most recent conclusion of a brief yet bitter invasion by Kusari into Gallic space, the Taus have seen a rapid destabilization along the shattered Gallic defenses and Kusari borders. Coupled with a Bretonia still reeling from economic desolation by the Gallic invasion only a few years prior, the Taus have become something of a no-man's-land between the depleted militaries of the Gallic, Kusari, and Bretonian empires. In the aftermath of the decisive end of the Kusari-Gallic war, the once dominant Gallia pulled almost all its strength back to Gallia to repel the Kusari invasion, leaving in their wake a sector more independent than ever.

At present, no house stands to conclusively fill the vacuum of power in the Taus, clouding the future to secure exploitation of its rich natural resources in ambiguity. Following the withdrawal of Kusari from Tau-23 after the final confrontation in Languedoc, the lanes within the system seem to have been subject to sabotage, and Gallia has released a public statement that Orkney would instead be favored over Tau-23 for the route to Tau-31, likely owing to Orkney being the last major Tau system that Gallia holds bases in. Niobium futures have ballooned in response to plummeting consumer confidence in stable Niobium extraction, resulting in vicious multinational corporate and paramilitary competition over Tau resource exploitation. The Taus are now a lawless battleground of conflicting corporate interests, small scale military skirmishes, and pirate incursions, all scrambling for a piece of Niobium.

Given the thorough depletion of military might and expansionist ambitions in the surrounding devastated houses, chances are low that the Taus will find themselves tamed by a lawful house in the foreseeable future.

[828 AS] Samura Debuts Next Generation Surveyor

NEW TOKYO -- 828 AS -- Samura Spokesperson Kenichiro Watanabe introduced a new line of Next-Gen Surveyors to the Consumer Utilities Convention Keynote Expo to thunderous applause: "The Surveyor is more than just a ship, it's a symbol of ingenuity and industrial development to all the Sirian Colonies. It's a pattern that dates back to our origins in the Sol system, and it's a pattern that will persist for many generations to come. Just as we have adapted to meet new challenges, so too must the Surveyor to meet emergent needs."

The Next-Gen Surveyor is slated to roll out multiple updates ranging from technological optimizations to upgraded armor and firepower capabilities. Many of the new modifications directly address a recent study by the Sirius International Institute of Statistics and Economics, citing up to 32 percent losses by BMM and Kruger Minerals to piracy and related factors.

The ship's expanded armour increased the ship's mass by almost 50 percent, which forced Samura's Surveyor team to completely overhaul the ship's power delivery system, powerplant, and hull. The new ship utilizes a power delivery system integrated into the super-alloy frame. The integrated frame was torture tested at the Aso High Altitude Proving Grounds, and sports certifications as best in class for maneuvering with a load under high Gs.

Though time will tell whether the upgrade will prove successful in addressing the increase of piracy, the stock market has greeted the welcome news with a 15 point general increase, and a relative high for Samura and mining sector stocks.

[804 AS] Treaty of Honshu eases Colony War wounds

HONSHU -- 804 -- Dignitaries from Rheinland and Kusari today ratified the Second Treaty of Honshu, officially normalizing relations between the two Houses and ending Kusari’s embargo. Rheinland has formally accepted sole culpability for the Colony Wars and agreed to a 20 year reparations package. This includes preferential rates for Kusari corporations on military goods and resources needed to rebuild the Kusari Naval Forces, and financial compensation for the damages inflicted in Honshu itself. Chancellor Steller offered his sincere condolences to Kusari over the war, and promised a brighter future of mutual prosperity.

[801 AS] Kusari imposes embargo on Rheinland

NEW TOKYO -- 801 -- Shogun Edo has announced that a full economic embargo of Rheinland will be imposed by Kusari due to the outrages of the Colony Wars. Liberty’s President Jacobi has taken a leading role in mediation between Rheinland and the other Houses, with the Provisional Rheinland Government offering a message of condolence to the Kusari people for the actions of the toppled previous regime. Despite this, Kusari has remained resolute that no normalization of relations will be considered until full reparations are made for the devastation in Honshu and New Tokyo, and the many crimes Kusari alleges were perpetrated there.

Rumors

Samura Industries
  • Unlike the agricultural habits of our sister colonies, Kusari largely focuses on Rice and Fisheries to sustain its population. Our planets are mostly water worlds - New Tokyo, Honshu, Junyo. There are few products that cater to hydroponic agriculture, and none that work on a planetary scale. We decided to develop our own.

  • Welcome to the very edge of Kusari space. This is the last Kusari station in the Tau systems, and it has a reputation as such an outpost. There are no safe postings here. The Outcasts frequently attack this station, in force. We believe their aim is to destroy this station and thereby push the Kusari border back. They will fail of course, but their attacks inflict a great deal of damage.

  • The Shinkaku field is rich in various organic substances. There are light Hydrocarbons such as Methane and Ethane mixed with Ammonia, all frozen in ice. We extract all these components by crushing the ice asteroids in space, then gathering up the ice dust in an unheated hold. Back on the station, the ice is heated and refined. In space, there is no gravity, so we use density differentiation to seperate the compounds. It is cheaper then thermal seperation.

  • This station uses the gases it mines in this field to produce our customized HydroGro hydroponic fertilizer, along with small quantities of other organic base products. We have to bring in Food and Mining Machinery from Kusari, but we produce a surplus of Water and Oxygen. We sometimes sell our surplus to Freeport 6.

  • I signed up for a dangerous assignment when I began working for Samura. It is the only way to get promoted quickly in my company, and I am an excellent pilot. I am proud to supply those who were left behind. It is a just cause to supply the Exiles - our Kusari brothers who were betrayed and exiled by Kishiro. Who would have thought Kishiro would be capable of such treachery?

  • I get an opportunity to see my family on Junyo when I fly HydroGro there from this base. Then I pick up Mining Machinery at New Tokyo, or Rice from Kyushu for the return trip. Although the trip to this base from the Kyushu system is not long, it is very dangerous because the Outcasts try to attack us almost every time. It is like they know we are coming.

  • There are freelance pilots who can make life difficult for Kishiro in this system. Samura makes sure that they remain employed as much as possible. If we could wrest control of this system from our chief competitor, the only issue would be the Outcasts. Gallia has no interest in this system, apart from keeping it as a neutral zone. As much as I would wish our government to take back what was once ours, I shall be content to keep making a living here in peace.

  • Tau-29 was discovered shortly after 300 AS by a Kusari research expedition. They encountered large fields of Hydrocarbons, frozen Methane, and Oxygen frozen in ice. The system's abundance was staggering, yet these resources could not be fully exploited until the addition of jump gates. Now the trade lanes extend all the way to Bretonia, and into Tau-23. It would have heralded the coming of civilization to the sector - if it were not for all the war that followed.

  • One of the reasons we are developing agricultural growth acceleration is to revitalise the exhausted fisheries on Junyo and Honshu. The fisheries were exhausted through pollution and overfishing, which caused not the fish stocks, but the plants and microorganisms that feed them to falter. HydroGro will revitalise those quickly. We have, for some time, experimented with using Alien Organisms to supplement fish stocks but there are some... side effects that makes us want to consider alternatives.

  • This system was once an extension of Kusari space rather than a Border World. It is unfortunate that Gallia intruded when they did. It was a complete waste of Kusari lives for us to have fought like we did. This is what happens when two prideful nations meet under these circumstances. Still, not all of Kusari was beaten. Something Gallia will eventually be reminded of.

  • I'm sure Samura didn't know that they had built this base so close to one of the Outcast smuggling routes. We often see Outcasts at the edge of our sensor range. Sometimes they get intercepted by Bounty Hunters. If the Hunters succeed, we can expect an Outcast attack on our operations here not long afterwards.

  • My brother is an accountant and cost estimator for our corporation. He told me that Samura was well aware of the danger associated with this system, and this field in particular because of its proximity to Outcast operations. The profits gained outnumber the expenses; human life is relatively cheap on a balance sheet. Pilots know what they sign up for when they accept a posting here. We pay them well, but we do not guarantee anyone's safety here.

Hogosha
  • The fact that Kishiro is looking to Bounty Hunters to solve their Outcast problems shows just how far they have fallen. Some of those mercenaries -were- Outcasts, and you do not stop being an Outcast, ever. You do not fight fire with flame. Samura was wise to look to us for protection, as they have done many times. We will not fail them.

  • The defeat of the Kusari Navy has created a lot of problems for our citizens out here on the fringes of Kusari space. The Hogosha will live up to their name in these times. Kishiro may look to outsiders to come to their aid, but Samura is different. Kusari has never needed outsiders. It certainly doesn't need them now.

  • We have no love for Gallia, but they are not the enemy here. Not now, in any event. We shall see what the future holds. Kusari needs time to rebuild, and to do so, it must remain free of conflict, and its industry must prosper. We are doing our part to that end.
