Wuppertal Refinery is a Toxic Waste processor and MOX plant that serves as a strategic waystation on the route between Rheinland and Gallia. Established in 804 AS during Kruger's financial crisis, the project was initially funded by ALG and operated jointly by both corporations. The initial plan to exploit the resource-rich debris surrounding planet Steinfurt was a significant step towards challenging Daumann's monopolistic hold on Rheinland's industry. Despite this, the explosive failure of the planned ALG-Kruger merger in 806 AS saw this cooperation collapse into a complicated legal battle which ultimately saw Kruger ousted from the station.
Wuppertal was not an immediate target during the Rheinland Civil War. Instead, its remote location left the station defenceless during the Red Hessians conquest of Cologne. Wuppertal was evacuated without resistance but suffered significant damage due to an unexplained act of sabotage, likely carried out by anti-Hessian employees attempting to prevent the capture of the valuable fuel plant. During the Hessian occupation of the system, the station was briefly taken over by a group of Junkers. Nevertheless, the Hessians allowed a small number of ALG specialists to remain, ensuring the safety of the refinery's hazardous nuclear reactors.
After the war and the newly reunified Rheinland Federal Empire's offensive into the system, the Junkers were ousted, and repair work began -- concluding in early 829. Since then, the station has resumed the manufacturing of HazMat Containers, while enriching recycled fuels with Uranium procured through the Gas Miner's Guild in the Sigmas. Since the signing of the Treaty of Oerlikon, Wuppertal has also become an increasingly important waypoint for traffic travelling the hazardous Alsace Passage between Rheinland and Gallia. The Battleship Altenburg has taken up position nearby to guard the nuclear refinery -- and keep a close eye on ALG's activities.
