Brief Overview:

The largest corporate concern in human history, Samura is an expansive conglomerate of member companies that look after all aspects of life within Kusari. From baby food and children's clothes, through entertainment products and schooling supplies all the way to retirement facilities and funeral homes. Samura Heavy Industries has fulfilled its mandate to provide for all of Kusari’s needs. Running to more locations than any of its competitors, Samura boasts the largest trading fleet in Sirius and their ships are a common sight in all areas that need goods or services.

Operating on a conservative business model, Samura believes in respect of the past and family, with an emphasis on job security for all its workers and a responsibility to maintain the essence of Kusari. Samura Heavy Industries operates according to the will of the noble Samura family and functions as their promise that Kusari will always be well looked after.

Corporate Logos:
[Image: KuSaNQO.png][Image: 9PTuhR0.png]
The diamond-shaped igeta mark is reminiscent of a type of frame placed over a well in ancient Japan and is based on the Samura family’s kamon. A commonly held belief is that this symbol was inspired by a pattern of strands weaved together, Samura does not discourage this as they say it perfectly mirrors the interwoven relationship between Samura and Kusari, namely that Samura is the bond that holds Kusari together and gives it strength.

Corporate Slogan:

"Building Kusari"

Business Philosophy:

The origins of Samura's corporate philosophy go back over 800 years, to when Masamune Samura wrote Hokannin Shiigaki in 22 A.S. Outlining the principles that Samura would follow for centuries to come, these teachings have been handed down as family precepts among the Samura to guide them in the spirit of their transactions.

"We should plan our business on a long-term basis, so as to benefit the Empire, even at the expense of those who manage it. For while the winds of change may blow back and forth, Samura will endure to care for Kusari."
— Masamune Samura (22 AS)

Present and Future Goals:

1. Outmaneuver and/or takeover competition.
2. Ensure the political system does not deteriorate. Preferably, ensure its improvement.
3. Continue to bring great honour to Kusari and its citizens.
4. Outcompete Synth Foods in Kusari, first, and then sector-wise.
5. Further secure and improve the operations in Hokkaido.
6. Complete research on own gate-building technology.
7. Further secure operations in Sigma-59 and Tau-29.
8. Expand operations to fully encompass the raw materials in the greater Taus region.
9. Expand Tottori operations surrounding Planet Miyazaki.
10. Regain control of Planet Kurile and expand Samura operations in Sigma-17.
11. Rebuild the now destroyed Osaka Storage Facility in Honshu.
12. Continue as the largest and greatest corporation in Sirius.

Division Overview:

Division of Commerce
Primary base of operations:
Shinjuku Station

Description: The Division of Commerce is concerned with all commercial transfers, from selling Engines to Liberty to Hydrocarbons and Platinum ore to Rheinland. They are also tasked with conducting business trade relations, such as our long standing deal with Cryer Pharmaceuticals. The last major concern is overseeing the development of Samura infrastructure, which would be led individually by various Special Projects Directors and Station Liaison Officers. The chief task in the near future will be the establishment of full trade relations with Gallia.

Division of Security
Primary base of operations:
Shinjuku Station

Description: The Division of Security is Samura's private military company. The men and women of this division are trained for combat and can usually be seen in fighters and bombers or even gunboats while escorting the transports of the Division of Commerce, scouting a trade route or defending a mining operation for the Division of Resource Acquisition. Many of them have previously worked either in the military or the police forces and have brought their experience along. Samura even employed former flight instructors, after they retired from active duty. According to rumors, the Division of Security is also used to operate in more dangerous and even dirty ways to harm the competition and assure Samura's top position in the Sirius-wide market.

Division of Personnel Management
Primary base of operations:
Tsushima Depot

Description: The Division of Personnel Management is responsible for all employees of Samura Industries, from the Board of Directors down to the temporary staff assignments carried out all across Kusari. Dealing with such a large corporation means this division is larger than a lot of other companies.

Division of Resource Acquisition
Primary base of operations:
Sapporo Station

Description:The goal of this division is to continue to improve on our mining operations within Kusari and expand in all areas possible. Making deals with other mining organisations and even moving in on their territory where possible. The Division of resource management has responsibility for all Samura mining vessels, outposts and staff throughout Sirius

Division of Resource Management
Primary base of operations:
Yokohama Shipyard

Description: Responsible for all orbital construction work, the Division of Resource Management controls the construction of all civilian and military ship production as well as any stations Samura is hired to construct. They have a large workforce on most core planets and shipyards belonging to Samura and even have rumored involvement with, with other groups, helping them to maintain and construct vessels built from Samura plans elsewhere to avoid suspicion.

Division of Tourism
Primary base of operations:
Planet Tomioka

Description: The Division of Tourism handles all tourism operations for Samura throughout Sirius as well as developing Tomioka and other accommodation sites on bases or planets within Samura holdings. They have a large fleet of liners to ferry customers around Kusari and other parts of Sirius.

Samura in History:

The sleeper ship "Kusari" lands on New Tokyo.

Shortly after planetfall in 5 A.S., the Planners decided to restore the title of Emperor as the leader of the Kusari government after centuries of figurehead status. Strong and absolute leadership was needed to rebuild their civilization. The political maneuvering was intense. There were two rivals - Masamune Samura and Yosai Hideyoshi. Ultimately, Hideyoshi won. As a compromise, Samura was offered the presidency of the corporation that would rebuild the industrial might of the Kusari people from scratch. He accepted, and Samura Heavy Industries was incorporated, the first of the two great Kusari industrial conglomerates that dominate commerce in the region to this day.

Yokohama Shipyard.

The year 50 A.S. saw the construction of the first orbital facility built in Kusari. Yokohama Shipyards was constructed by Samura Orbital under contract for Yokohama Shipworks so larger ships could be created outside the limiting factor of New Tokyo’s gravity. One of the first triumphs of Yokohama Shipyard was producing a state of the art extra-system survey vessel that allowed Kusari to finally reach out from New Tokyo and begin exploring other systems. Vessels of this class such as the Junyo-Maru went on to plant the Kusari flag on many places throughout northern Sirius in the name of the Emperor.

Arrival of the Einstein.

In 118 A.S. things changed in Kusari that would never be forgotten. A vessel from one of the other colonies arrived in the system of New Tokyo. It was met by forces of the Imperial Navy and escorted to Planet New Tokyo for talks with the Emperor. Kusari scientists were amazed to find that this vessel while militarily inferior to current naval craft was designed as an exploration vessel and it this way was far ahead of anything produced in Kusari. Among other advances it featured a multi use FTL engine copied and miniaturised from designs of the original sleeper ships the colonies used to arrive in Sirius.

Having been authorized by the colony of Liberty to trade this design as part of a technology exchange with Kusari. Samura fought hard for this exchange to take place and as a result of it went going ahead, space travel changed forever in Kusari. Samura and despite their protests, another company Kishiro Technologies, were invited by the Kusari government to negotiate and exchange technology with the new arrivals.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Honshu had long been one of Kusari’s prosperous colonies since its foundation in 56 A.S. With industry being mostly seafood and the underdeveloped H-Fuel markets being extracted from the Chuyu cloud. The population slowly climbed to one and a half million people who together with Kyushu, supplied the hungry people of New Tokyo.

However 250 A.S. saw the complete collapse of the fisheries market and economic collapse of planet Honshu. While Samura Heavy Industries did what it could to protect the people on Honshu and attempted to advocate on their behalf, the Shogunate turned a blind eye towards the people and pushed taxation higher to cover the loss from Honshu. Slowly the people realised that Honshu had become lost to the greed of the Shogun and began leaving in record numbers, with the population dropping to a mere two hundred and fifty thousand. Jobs were created by Samura for many of the families on Planet Kyushu but others decided to focus their attention elsewhere.

An enterprising group moved further out from Honshu seeking their fortunes and so the H-Fuel industry was truly born in Kusari. Samura constructed Aomori Station for them on the border of the Crow Nebular and assisted this group to become organised and profitable. Slowly these gas miners spread out deeper into the Crow Nebular with Samura there to assist at every opportunity, shipping their products, constructing their gas miners and vessels and assuring that the gas miners received a fair market value. This started a long a fruitful relationship that unfortunately was mired by betrayal many centuries later.

Sakura Festival.

One morning, early in May 321 A.S. Mercenary forces spang into action. They struck the Shogun’s palace to put an end to his rule of corruption. Many died on both sides as the civilian forces clashed with the Shogun’s guard during the four hour long battle, but the conclusion was inevitable. For the people had shown their disapproval towards the Shogun’s abuses of power and corruption and surprisingly, in a final act of honor, he took his own life as payment for his misdeeds. His guard however were not as honorable and retreated, breaking through the ranks and making a hasty escape with whatever they could carry. This group would form the beginnings of the Blood Dragon movement, forever attempting to harm Kusari for daring to stand against their tyrannical oppression.

Samura Heavy Industries stepped in during the aftermath of this tragic event to ensure calm for the people and stabilize the government, although many suggested that Samura was in a good position to take over at this point, it went against what Samura Heavy Industries stood for and so the Samura family did their best to support a smooth transition to a more honest and corruption free regime that would benefit the people of Kusari.

War with Bretonia.

After a long build up of tensions, Kusari was dragged into a war with the Kingdom of Bretonia in 814 A.S. With its modern navy supplied by Samura, Kusari forces were able to make heavy gains in the Tau systems and even push into Leeds. Although Samura advocated against any war with Bretonia stating how important trade was with them, Samura fulfilled its duty to Kusari and became involved with making sure the navy was well supplied. Assets were maintained and captured stations were brought to working order as fast as possible. Samura security wings were involved in frequent clashes with the pilots of the B.A.F. and received a thorough crash course in the finer arts of battle from these ferocious combatants.

The niobium fields of Leeds became a trial by fire for Samura pilots and the security division came back a very different organisation than when the war began.

A new house emerges.

The war with Bretonia took an unexpected turn for the worse when a previously unknown empire made their presence felt in 817 A.S. Gallia announced ownership of Bretonia and attacked the rear flanks of the Kusari Naval forces in the Tau region. Caught between the two combatants, the Emperor and his forces were in serious trouble.

The situation became far more complicated when elements funded by Kishiro took the initiative to seize control of the government and immediately declared peace with Gallia, withdrawing all support for the Kusari forces still trapped in the Tau regions. This was the beginning in a long line of bad choices for the government that continues to this day.

Kusari divided.

Once the Emperor’s forces managed to return to Kusari, instead of receiving him with welcome arms, the Kusari Republic fought tooth and nail to stop the loyalist forces from entering Kusari. With much support from the conservative groups within Kusari, he was able to fight his way through Kyushu and in to New Tokyo where an armistice was signed to bring about peace. Although there are many who say Samura was the main contributing force helping the Emperor return to Kusari with support and resources, there is no evidence of Samura gaining any benefits from his return.

Miners dig to a new low.

The year 824 saw the worst affront to Samura that it had ever faced, while the government was trying to clean up the mess it had created in Kusari, the Gas Miners Guild showed their disrespect by attacking the Samura owned planet of Kurile in Sigma-17. Since the management of Kurile had gone to great lengths to live in peace with their neighbors, they were unprepared for such a vicious attack from the Guild. Although many workers were brutally killed trying to defend their homes, the government remained surprisingly quiet and let these atrocities go unchallenged and unpunished.

Kusari is under the possibility of suffering great harm from the loss of their Alien Organism industry. Samura is faced with reclaiming Kurile without help from the government, leaving many to wonder where their interests even lie and where Samura will turn to help from.

Good question. Seconded.
Surely The Core should be listed as your business partners given the large amount of cooperation between the two?

Good luck.
