During the war between Kusari and Gallia, Bretonia granted Kusari permission to transit military vessels through the technically neutral Tau-31. This allowed Kusari to rapidly capture the Gate terminal in Tau-23 before launching assaults into Languedoc itself. Before the war's end, Kusari entered into negotiations with Bretonia regarding the captured Gate's status.

In exchange for joint access to Tau-23's minerals in perpetuity, Kusari transferred control of the Gate to Bretonia. The Tadasu Agreement of 827 AS also saw both Houses commit to defend one another in the event of becoming subject to future Gallic aggression in their mutual Tau border.

Bretonia quickly contracted Ageira's services for the delicate task of keeping the Gallic gate operational. Using experience gained from dissecting abandoned Gallic infrastructure in Bretonia, Ageira cobbled together various workarounds to keep the Gate in one piece. Despite this, there are frequent outages and the extreme stress placed on the Gate's components is shortening the structure's operational lifespan significantly.

Rumors

Ageira Technologies
  • This is one of Ageira’s more fascinating postings. There is no standardized interface between our proprietary technology and Gallia’s pale imitation. There’s no process manual governing how this works. DSE can’t plug in a White Box and expect the system to function. Instead, we’re in a constant state of on-site assessment, experimentation and fine tuning.

  • The Gallic Union is furious that we’re here with “their” gate. Bretonia and Kusari apparently have some kind of agreement where they’ll back each other up if the Gauls try anything. Maybe they would if it was just Bretonia in the way, but I doubt they fancy taking on two Houses at once, after how that went last time round. Crayter too, I suppose.

Bretonia Armed Forces
  • The garrison on Scalpay answers to the captain of the J Fendall. There aren’t enough of us here to resist a serious push if it came to that -- but it won’t come to that. The Admiralty euphemistically calls us a “tripwire force”. The Union knows that if they declared on us, the Tadasu Agreement would bring Kusari into the war, and probably Crayter too.

  • London is determined to hold this gate as a bargaining chip. The Gallic Union have never accepted any responsibility for what was done to us, for the crimes against humanity perpetrated by officers who are members of their government. We’ll disassemble this gate and send the parts back to Ile-de-France when they give us those criminals and agree to reparations.

Deep Space Engineering
  • Scalpay is probably our most dangerous assignment since the Hokkaido job back at the turn of the century. Drop your guard for a moment and you could be iced by Outcast pirates, GNI spooks, Corsican assassins, or even disgruntled miners. You’d think they at least would appreciate having a stable Jump Gate back to the markets where they sell their goods…

  • There is still a DSE engineering staff assigned to this site, however Ageira are running this show directly. The egg-heads don’t usually like to get their hands dirty, but they couldn’t resist the chance to play with a fully functional Gallic Jump Gate. Our role here is more mundane than normal -- this Gate is continually springing leaks that need patching and welding.

Border World Exports
  • For years we’ve tried to stabilize this system through consortium funding for bounties on the Outcasts and Gallic pirates that terrorize the area. Bowex, BMM, Crayter and Samura all contributed significantly. Would you believe that Cryer recently joined the arrangement and doubled our combined contributions for killed or captured Outcasts?

  • Planet Harris is considered a bad assignment to be given, and this is substantially worse than that. We drop off Water, Food Rations and Consumer Goods here at Scalpay before heading on to the BMM and Samura mining site nearby to collect their ore. On just that short stretch, we lost an escort to an Outcast ambush.
