Niigata is a gargantuan space colony established in the otherwise-remote Sigma-59 system. With the influx of inmates and colonists actually outpacing the number of jobs on the surface of Miura, the GMG unveiled an equally ambitious project. Pushing the limits of structural integrity and with enthusiastic investment from Interspace Commerce, GMG unveiled the first "Star City" constructed within Sirius by appending the original GMG-owned stations of Sigma-59 onto Niigata's chassis, forming one titanic construct.

Niigata's internal bustle belies the frontier nature of Sigma-59. While transports and Guild patrols are common around the immediate fortresslike periphery of the City and the nearby jump hole, the station has a population easily capable of self-sufficiency. Advanced hydroponic technology and frequent imports from Synth Foods ensure that the vast majority of the over six-thousand people aboard Niigata are fed and thus able to contribute to the full-blown metropolitan economy aboard, whose goal by a year's time is to become a net exporter.

While the corporate sectors of Sirius have either applauded or looked enviously on at the GMG's overall success with this audacious project, the lower reaches of the maintenance decks are rumored to already be an impoverished nightmare. Station security is rumored not to enter certain decks without heavy arms and numbers, causing some aboard to worry for the station's integrity. GMG continues to assure the sector that its investment is safe, claiming that the sheer number of failsafes and redundant life support systems mean that a serious threat from within is unlikely.

SAIGON -- 825 -- In a furious speech, Prime Minister Yukihara Reijiro of Kusari has declared a state of war against Rheinland. This follows the destruction of Ibusuki Survey Platform in Sigma-21, 12 hours before Rheinland's eviction ultimatum expired. Despite Rheinland's protests that it was not responsible for the act, Kusari has accused the Battleship Bayern of the murders, releasing the station's final distress calls that begged Rheinland forces to cease fire. As a result, Kusari has mobilized the Kusari Naval Forces to begin joint military operations alongside the Gas Miner's Guild. The Prime Minister has ordered Rheinland to withdraw all of its forces from the Sigmas immediately or face Kusari's fury.

The 48 hour warning has been provided to allow Kusari citizens time to evacuate from the jointly Kishiro and GMG operated station before the Battleship Bayern enforces the order. Kishiro Technologies has announced that it has assumed full administration of the platform to avoid being dragged into Rheinland's conflict with the Guild. Rheinland has reiterated that the platform must be abandoned, while the Bayern continues to advance towards Planet Saigon. Kusari has reacted with outrage to the development, threatening immediate repercussions if neutral Kusari citizens or property are harmed.

The crew were informed they were operating in breach of their House’s treaty obligations and ordered to abandon the miner. Instead, the thieves attacked our patrol, while calling Rheinland Military reinforcements. The miner was accordingly destroyed. Rheinland’s declaration of war uses this lawful exercise of authority as a pretext for naked imperialism. The GMG will defend the Crow Nebula to the last. The Rheinlanders are invited to join their ancestors.

HAMMERSEE -- 825 -- Despite the ongoing dispute with the Gas Miners Guild over the status of Sigma-15, Rheinland has announced plans to construct a Jump Gate to Frankfurt. Many believe the move brings Rheinland one step closer to formally annexing the system. A secure jump connection will reduce the cost of supporting the colony on Hammersee and nearby Bochum Refinery, removing the need for expensive and time-consuming deep space haulage. Controversially, EFL Oil and Machinery has been contracted for the work, provoking furious criticism from Bretonia and Liberty who accuse Rheinland of funding Gallic military aggression. The Gas Miners Guild disputes these claims, pointing to the First Treaty of Honshu that ended the 80-Years War. At that time, Rheinland conceded territorial sovereignty of the Crow Nebula to the GMG. The Guild argues that any newly discovered Sigma systems fall within their domain by default. Rheinland has acknowledged the GMG’s rights to the system’s southern nebula wisp, but strongly rejects the assertion that the Treaty extends to the areas outside it. After all these years we still find ourselves caught up with the misnomer that is our name. Perhaps it's time to change it soon. Afterall we also produce significant quantities of Uranium, used to be the intermediaries in the Alien Artifacts trade, and we have our eyes on Alien Organisms that benefit terraforming, which we can gather from various sources at the edge of our space. Still, the H-Fuel trade accounts for the bulk of our business. We might have underestimated these Outcasts in Omicron Beta. We didn't expect them to offer much resistance but they continue to fight hard to this very day. We do not see any industrial developments beyond Ruiz in Beta yet their territorial nature refuses to give. Eventually we'll dislodge them, but for now we will avoid that area. With the reserves in Okinawa, Sigma-13 and Sigma-19, there is no reason to initiate a bloody conflict over resources we will not develop rightaway. Sometimes I find it so hard to meet eye to eye with my neighbors in Kusari. How can I be blamed? Six hundred years and still we find ourselves reminding Kusari of our sovereign space. One of these days it's going to happen where they learn once and for all where their border ends and ours begins. Mark my words, Rheinland will not be the only House that has to learn this lesson the harshest way. Many in Kusari are trying to portray our assault on Kurile as but the mere antics of greed. I can be first to admit that they aren't far off from the truth because Samura's conservative methods are too painful to watch when we are ready to harvest that planet in earnest so that it's wealth may be distributed across Sirius in a more efficient fashion. There is a bigger less known picture behind all this. GMG does consider that space its territory, and does not appreciate Samura's intrusion, along with their Hogosha lapdogs. We will protect what is ours, we've had to endure Samura extortion and trickery long enough, we can and will take action against it. There's no doubt about it anymore. GMG is entering a Golden Age. Our space has been more peaceful then it has ever been in centuries, despite the Corsair and Outcast incursions. GMG borders have greatly expanded and include just as many operations outside of the clouds as within. Our developments have more than doubled and more importantly, thanks to all the wars, the demands for H-Fuel are skyrocketing. Eventually, our people will even have a planet to settle on, but it will be some time yet before it is comfortable to do so. We are very fortunate we've managed to keep Okinawa secret from the public long enough to entrench ourselves. It's not as easy for us like it is for a house. Our claim would have been rejected had we not already had fully setup industries underway to make their contribution to Sirius - Samura would likely have moved in and staked a claim on Miura themselves. It's the game we have to play out here because while a House has the military power to claim an empty space as their with little to no one to refute it meanwhile we have to ensure we are fully there to justify the claim as ours.
