The "Obsidian" is the first foray of Orbital Spa and Cruise into high-grade civilian ship market. While the exact origin of the design is not formally documented, the first iteration of this ship is rumored to have been custom built for a private investor and as part of the agreement OSC was provided with the license to manufacture a limited number of replicas to be auctioned as a collector's item, but due to popularity of the design production has resumed in small quantities since.
Despite the CTE series ships' reputation as being easily modifiable based on each individual pilot's preferences, this is the first case of an extensive modification being successfully streamlined for mass-production.
