    Areas of Interest

    Nebulae

    Barrier Nebula

An outcropping of the Barrier, a cloud of ice asteroids and dust located in Newcastle.

    Craster Nebula

The Craster Nebula, due to its unnerving appearance, in addition to strong warnings from the Bretonian authorities of the navigational and radiation hazards the nebula is reported to hold, has been the origin of numerous horror stories among space pilots who frequent the Newcastle system.

    Asteroid Fields

    Belfast Belt

The Belfast Belt is all that remains of Belfast Production Facility. Belfast was constructed by BMM in 723 AS, however working conditions aboard were notoriously poor. By 814 AS, matters reached breaking point, when mutinous crew members welcomed in Molly attackers. The Mollys then fortified the captured station with a minefield.

The Mollys continued to hold Belfast up until 825 AS, when they were betrayed by the Gallic Battleship Embrun that had been resupplying there during a temporary ceasefire. Belfast was obliterated by a nuclear device, with the surviving fragments and the defensive minefield eventually falling into a degrading orbit of Middlesbrough. The Belfast Belt now poses a navigational hazard for shipments boosting minerals from terrestrial automated platforms up to Redcarr Refinery.

    Northumberland Ice Cloud

The smaller Newcastle outcropping of the Barrier, the Northumberland occupies the southeastern reaches of Newcastle. Unlike with its larger sibling, repeated surveys found little of value beyond an abundance of water ice, the depths of the field remaining largely unexplored, though not abandoned.

Northumberland has been reported to play host to unusually high Gaian activity, the terrorists using the difficult terrain and scanner-scattering properties of the ice dust to cover their movement. Frequent raids emerge from the clouds, striking at the operations surrounding the development of Carlisle and the Planetform refinery in orbit. The Manchester Jump Gate finds itself particularly pressured, with frequent hijackings of Planetform traffic between Heaton and Birmingham.

    Galloway Ice Cloud

The Galloway Ice Field is a large outcropping of the Barrier, covering much of the western side of the Newcastle system. It is theorised that its distinct, red hue is the result of the outcropping merging with local dust fields aeons in the past. Initial surveys indicated only trace amounts of Hydrocarbons within the field, leading BMM to ignore it in favour of focusing their operations on Middlesbrough. The quiet depths of the field would soon find other uses, as Molly raiders and Outcast smugglers alike began to use it as a staging ground for ventures deeper into the system. The IMG would also begin to harvest the ice from the edges of the field, processing the scant Hydrocarbons onboard South Shields.

Galloway would see a surge of activity in 831 AS as the loss of Dublin forced the BMM to quickly search for alternative sources of income. A second, more thorough survey of the field was commenced, this time discovering moderately rich deposits of Hydrocarbons and trace Terraforming Gases deep within the cloud. As BMM would still find the deposits not worth the expense, Planetform acquired the mining rights instead, the company eager to recoup its losses after the abandoning of Poole, with large sections of Merthyr Tydfil recycled into Heaton and positioned near Carlisle to capitalise on the discovery.

    Yorkshire Debris Field

A cloud of abandoned ships, parts, and other scrap.

    Wrecks

    Bretonian Fighter - E-6

Wreck of a Bretonian Fighter, most probably destroyed in Yorkshire station explosion.

    Contains:

    Bretonian Fighter - F/E-6

Mull Base was excavated by the Mollys in 772 AS to act as a staging post for attacks on BMM operations across Leeds and Newcastle. Raids on the lightly protected industrial convoys heading to the Leeds jump gate provided the early Mollys with many of the materials needed to establish themselves as a long term insurgency. The close proximity to the Leeds jump hole also attracted several radical sects of Mollys, who sought to intercept MOX shipments from LD-14, in the hope of refining weapons-grade plutonium. These dangerous raids on high security convoys often resulted in the deaths of the pilots involved, and bore no tangible results.

In 814 AS, Mull was the mustering point for a large Molly attack on Belfast Production Facility. The Newcastle Armed Forces garrison had been significantly drawn down due to the ongoing conflict with Kusari in Tau 31, allowing the Mollys to punch through the local BMM security force and link up with sympathetic workers onboard. As Belfast's industrial facilities were put to use, Mull distributed produced supplies to other Molly holdings across Bretonia. The abundance of supplies and proximity to Belfast's factories also drew a community of engineers and technicians to the station, who would be responsible for prototyping many of the Molly's weapons and equipment.

While Belfast would ultimately be destroyed by the Gallic Royal Navy in 825 AS, its legacy would survive in Mull's oversized smuggling fleet and well developed weapons design workshops. In 830 AS, these workshops would be responsible for designing and producing the enormous explosive charge used to destroy the New London jump gate in Dublin. The mine was of such substantial size that it required the Destroyer Shillelagh to tow it into position. The Molly's success with Free Dublin has come at a price however, with Arranmore demanding Mull provide ever increasing numbers of pilots and smugglers to sustain their new state.
