The equipment type one is the Jump drive or Hyperspace scanner, Docking modules have a separate slot with 2 different types - heavy and normal, the same docking module can be fitted to ether.
I was talking about that Equipment Type 1 slot. I know about the 2 slots for docking bays, but that slot seems to be useless since Survey devices uses 100`000 energy when Pilgrim has only 90`000 energy.

As far as I know Jump Drive needs at least 3`600`000 energy.

That is correct - it is because they used to be able to be used on traders but the energy needed to do so was increased, because of the harm it was doing to roleplay - jump traders were not interacting with anyone.

Correct! So, at this moment, that slot is useless.
Depends if you wanna mount any thing to trade it or keep it in your ship because some people who dont have bases mount such devices in transport coz of large storage capacity so they can unmount it or trade to another ship. This way it helps them to store such equipments. e.g cloaks, surveys, docking modules depends if you mount or not .
But if you mount it you can easily unmount it any time example a jumpdrive once mounted on a battle cant be unmounted, could be unmounted only at a player base because of less cargo of BS
