RESTORING YOUR LOST CHARACTERS IN THREE EASY STEPS
Freelancer is an old game. Unlike today's titles where all of your progress is kept server-side and your account information is accessible anywhere via a simple login feature, we are stuck with what limits the game places on us. If you do not manually back-up your account information from your PC, there is a huge chance that sooner or later you can lose access to your progress.
It happens. We understand. This is the thread that will help you in those rare cases. All you need to do is to follow three essential steps to restore your accounts in the case of character loss.

STEP 1
Provide us with all the necessary information
The premise is simple. If you accidentally deleted a character, it will be restored from the last server backup. If you lost access to your account, your existing ships will be given a /movechar command code and you will be able to transfer them to your new account manually. Before you can do that:

First of all, you will need to copy-paste the form above and fill in the needed information. We are looking for the names of your characters. In the case of multiple accounts, try to provide the names of at least one character per account.
Secondly, tell us what happened that lead to the loss of these characters. Use this line to also specify whether or not these characters are shared between you and other members, or are they your own personal ships.
The third part is simple - create a single character on your new account and provide us the name. This will be used for verification purposes as well as where you will have money transferred from one of your characters for you to use the /movechar command.
Notice: Characters that have been lost due to inactivity wipe (read: have not been logged for 6 months) will not be restored.
The administration team may decline your request for character restoration in certain cases, for example: if we cannot fully confirm that the characters belong to you.
STEP 2
Wait for your request to be processed
Have patience. Restoration and retrieval of characters is a manual process and will be done by a Server Administrator. You will receive a Private Message regarding your particular case and will be given either the codes to the characters which you can then use to move them with or the further instructions in order to do so.
In the cases where the restored characters are the only ones the player has, the temporary ship will have some credits transferred to it from the lost characters, in order to allow the player to execute the /movechar command.
STEP 3
Ensure you do not need to ever use this thread again
Restoring lost characters is bothersome for both the player who cannot enjoy the game and the admin who has to look through logs and manually set up everything in order to process the restoration request. It only makes sense that it would be easier for both sides not to have to deal it in the first place. As such, the third and final step is simple:
PLEASE BACK UP YOUR ACCOUNTS
You can do so by following these steps:
Step 1: Go to your Discovery Freelancer Launcher and click the My Accounts tab.
Step 2: Click the ''Import/Export'' button and then "Export All Accounts" to your Desktop.
Step 3: Place the exported XML file on your USB Thumb Drive, Phone, Email it to yourself or place it on your Google Drive account.
To IMPORT the accounts simply go back to Step 2 and use the "Import DSLauncher Accounts" option and select your file from whichever location you placed it in.
Character Names: aceoflegacy Reason for Restoration: i just jumped with my liberty bs and navy ID and i jumped thru the gate and it crashed and now it is crashing every time i open it
Character Names: Valdorel (all other chars on account would be nice as well, I believe there should be one called Republic.Ore or something close possibly?, I've also used the name Scrap.Crow before so that may be there as well) Reason for Restoration: Haven't played in quite some time, like a couple years if my memory is accurate. I expected that my characters would have been wiped by now. But when I went to make a new character with my normal name (Valdorel) I was surprised to find that it was still listed as "In use"!!! So if they do still exist I'd rather just have them back then start over.
Character Names: CR-Diana, Kisara, SDF-Macross, SDF-Nanosinx, SDF-Midoriko, SDF-Alessandra, Paimon Reason for Restoration: I buy a ship, but due a needed for it, i place in my main account, it was running okay, i moved the SDF-Alessandra (A Core Battleship) to Omega48 to try on the Battlezone and see how it good is ...
all went good, i docked in gran vista orbital, and undock, everything went fine, i was trying to look for the spot of the BZ (never find it or the buoy was bugged) when i docked again, the game crashed, ... i try to restart it, but it seems the account got "freeze" ...
an HS>Member told me about having 7th ship in the account make this one breaks something ... maybe i am exceeding 1.2B of credits in commodities or something is wrong ... but the game don't let me to log the account again ... so got bugged, i contacted to @SlappyTheRoach via Discord but ... everything was fine, except he look for it, but don't bring me any code to move my chars to another account i have recently prepped
Now i am sad because my main account is in "Danger" or something ...

Reason for Restoration: I stopped playing actively circa 2010, but over the last 11 years, I kept my characters alive religiously and even created some new ones because I love the universe of DiscoFL - it's the best online game for chillin'. Earlier this year, I reinstalled Windows and suddenly wasn't able to log in with any of my accounts. I describe the problem in more detail in this help request. I would like to have all 3 accounts fully restored especially because I kept most of those characters alive for over a decade.

Reason for Restoration: I had bit of an accident where I tried to bulk move some of my profile accounts from one category to another, but accidentally created a new category. As this was not my intent, I tried to figure out how to remove this new category. However, in trying to do so, rather than deleting the unwanted category, I accidentally deleted the accounts instead. Whilst I did have a back-up of the majority of my characters, there was one profile I apparently didn't back-up. So, that is the situation.

Reason for Restoration:
I created a new account in order to rename and move my characters.
After creating, I started the game with the new account and created a char, set codes and closed the game again.
Then I wanted to log on to the other account, but it wasn't there anymore. I could see it in the right side of the Launcher section "Recent accounts" but when I klicked it, it said:
Error Code: C05
"Unable to load account. Accounts no longer exists or is corrpted"
After klicking Ok, I couldn't see the account there anymore.
That's basically it.
Character Names: Yamir.West or Yamir West, Unknown_Soldier, Forgotten_Soldier, lots of Soldiers, i guess that i deleted a couple of them. can't remember them all Reason for Restoration: I got a new PC and wiped my disk again with no backup. i'm really sorry for that. Won't happen again.
Character Name: Bert789
Reason for Restoration: Harddrive failure. This charakter has current a Liberty "Interdictor"-class Assault Battlecruiser.
New Character Name: Okabe
I cannot find any ship, with that name, having existed. If it went inactive pre February 2019, then it is lost to the ether - SD
